WHAT DOES A FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER DO?
LEO Family Support aims to engage, empower and enrich families within the Trust. We offer this through emotional support, practical advice, education on child/family development, parenting, signpost or make referrals to services in the community and advocate for families.
We help parents solve problems, deal with challenges which could be from everyday routines or a major family crisis. However, although we are not ELSAs, SENCOs or Attendance officers, we will work closely with these professionals to support parents around some of these issues.
HOW DO FSW SUPPORT PARENTS?
By meeting families on a one to one basis, through group work, drop-ins and workshops, online support, telephone parent coaching, attending meetings with external agencies, we aim to create a safe, healthy dynamic for families through the work we do.
ARE YOU LINKED TO CHILDRENS SERVICES?
FSW are employed by the LEO Trust and work for the school and NOT Sutton Children's Services. Our work is preventative, so we can work with families to identify and work through potential safeguarding concerns. All support is confidential; however concerns relating to the safeguarding of our pupils will always be dealt with in accordance with the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
WHAT SORTS OF CHALLENGES CAN FSW HELP WITH?
Family Support Workers can support families with many different challenges and/or struggles, broadly ranging from financial difficulties, mental health and wellbeing, parent separation or lone parenting, emotional bonding, immigration, challenging child behaviour, abuse and general parenting support.
