As we reflect on the past week, it's been nothing short of a whirlwind of exciting activities and enriching experiences. Our classrooms have been buzzing with energy as the new academic year gains momentum.

This week Year 4 had the pleasure of meeting our new violin instructor and the Well-being Woofer has returned. The therapeutic benefits of furry friends are undeniable, and we're thrilled to have this program back in action. Our swimming lessons have officially begun! It's wonderful to see our students making a splash as they develop essential life skills in the pool.

We extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to our new nursery and reception children, who have embarked on their educational journey with us. We look forward to watching them grow and thrive.

Next week, we're excited to introduce our corridor monitors, responsible for maintaining calm and quiet hallways as we transition between classes. Their role is vital in ensuring a smooth flow throughout the school day. Also next week is our 'Meet the Teacher' meetings (see below for more details). It's an excellent opportunity for parents and carers to find out about what their child will be doing in their new class this year.

Wishing you all a restful weekend!

Please log into Arbor and complete the consents as soon as possible.

Social Media Expectations

For any complaints or concerns, please ensure you follow the complaints and concern policy. Facebook, WhatsApp etc. should not be used for any school related comments and the complaints and concerns procedures should be followed. If you wish to share, confidentially, parents who are using sites inappropriately please let us know and we are happy to speak to them.

All contact between staff and parents should be conducted with respect and politeness whether this is in meetings or on social media. Parents should use social networking sites or messaging groups sites only as a forum to support one another and uphold the strong reputation of the school. Parents should not post inappropriate comments about the school and/or its staff, parents or individual children on social networking sites or messaging groups.  Parents should make complaints or share concerns through official school channels rather than posting them on social networking sites or messaging groups.

New Home School Link Worker

I am Melissa Bailey and am pleased to introduce myself as the new family support worker at your school. I have extensive experience working with families, children and young people in multiple settings, ranging from creches, nurseries and schools, as well as mother and baby units. Therefore, I have experience of working interrogatively with young people and families and am looking forward to embarking on this new journey. I am available every Monday and Thursday if there is anything you need help and support with, or just for a friendly face and a chat.

Safeguarding

Hurst Park School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and procedures in place which we refer to in our prospectus.  All staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures. The policy is published on the school website; parents and carers are welcome to read the policy on request in school.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.  We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are:

Mrs A Laher (DSL/Vice Principal)

Miss L Thorndycraft (Deputy DSL/Principal)

Free School Meals

Is your child aged 4-11? They may be entitled to a free school meal plus funding for our school to help your child's education.

Forest school

Year 1 children enjoyed being back in forest school on Wednesday.  They created Nature Pictures of what they thought their forest school looked like. They included the bug hotels, bird boxes, all the different types of trees and even some snails and spiders!

Caterpillars

On Tuesday this week, we discovered a number of caterpillars in the playground. Upon investigation, we can confirm they were Buff Tip caterpillars. For more information, please click here.

Birthdays

When your child celebrates their birthday, we would ask that the child donates a book to the class libraries from the Amazon wishlist below instead of bringing treats for the class. The book will help us to grow our class libraries and ensure we are promoting healthy eaters.

Amazon Wishlist Updated

We have updated the Amazon Wishlist with books that we would like to have in each class for storytime. You may view the list of items by following the links below. Once purchased, these items will be delivered directly to school and opened with the children – what a great treat! If you would like to purchase a Wishlist present and gift a book to the school, please follow the link, add to your basket and buy.

DELIVER TO SCHOOL

Once you have decided what you would like to purchase, add to your basket and go to checkout. Please select Hurst Park Primary School Park address for delivery (438 Hurst Road, KT8 1QS). If the address has not been automatically populated, please may you simply add the school address (see below) so you can select for delivery direct to the school. School address to use Hurst Park Primary School 438 Hurst Road West Molesey KT8 1QS

GIFT MESSAGE

With so many packages arriving at the school, it would be really helpful if you could complete a gift message to include in the delivery. Please state the sender's name and what class/ year group your gift is intended for, so that when the school starts to receive the deliveries, they can easily distribute the items to the correct class. If you wish to remain anonymous, then of course that is fine but please state the item and class/year group the gift is for.

Thank you so much for all your support and generosity.

Meet and Greet Coffee Morning - Thursday 5th October

Flu Immunisations

On Thursday 21st September, the Children and Family Health Surrey Immunisations Team will be visiting our school to administer the nasal flu vaccine.

Please ensure you have completed this online consent form with “YES” or “ NO” by the end of today (15th September). If the form is not completed for your child, they will NOT receive the vaccine.

Children will visit the team of nurses by class in a private room. If you have any queries, please contact the Immunisations Team on 020 8394 8153.

Parking Reminder

Please can we remind you of the importance of parking sensibly in the local area, especially around school pick-up and drop-off times. When you park irresponsibly, you are not only putting yourself and other drivers at risk, but you are also putting children at risk. Here are a few things to keep in mind when parking:

If you are unable to find a legal parking space near the school, please consider walking, biking, or car sharing. These options are better for the environment and can help reduce traffic congestion.

Please also be mindful of the local roads that are having roadworks done.
