Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a restful half term. It's been a busy start back with lots going on. This week, we gave our Pupil Voice groups their badges and lanyards – well done to all those involved! We've also had a packed schedule of sporting fixtures, including the Girls B team Football match against Claygate, the Girls A team playing St Albans, and the Y3/4 Boys and Girls tournament. Our Y5&6 girls also showed great sportsmanship in their rugby matches. Finally, I would like to  congratulate Miss Davies for becoming Hurst Park's full time sports coach.

Learning update - Autumn 2 

We are really looking forward to starting our new History topics this half term, and immersing the children in a variety of learning about the past.

In Early Years, children will be learning about their past and changes that occur since birth. They will also look at history related to their families, such as grandparents.

In Key Stage 1, Year 1 children will continue to explore the past relating to their own lives this half term, and Year 2 will learn about what school was like in the past, and compare it with their school life now.

In Key Stage 2, Year 3 will delve into the lives of those in the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age and make a decision about which one was most preferable to live in. Year 4 are learning about how children's lives have changed across a range of eras, also thinking about which era was the most or least preferable to live in and why. In Year 5, children will explore the question 'What did the Greeks ever do for us?' and conduct research based on this enquiry. Year 6 will learn about the impact of World War II on the people of Britain and explore the lives of all those involved.

To raise money for Children in Need, the School Council have decided that the children are going to dress in yellow or spotty clothes. Please can we ask that children still come to school wearing suitable footwear to avoid any injuries at playtimes.  

If you would like to donate to Children in Need, we are asking parents or carers for a donation of £1 on the day. You can donate via our QR code- click here. 

For all children, there will be an obstacle course led by the School Council and a mindful activity to complete.

Safeguarding alert - WhatsApp 

The police have informed us about a large WhatsApp group circulating among young people in Sutton and we are aware this is also the case in Surrey, and beyond. This raises some important online safety concerns.

We strongly encourage you to:

• Talk to your child: Discuss the importance of only joining WhatsApp groups with people they know in real life.

• Check their phone: Ensure they are not part of any unknown or inappropriate groups.

• Remind them of age limits: WhatsApp is rated for ages 13+

• Review the privacy settings: You can limit who can add them to groups

Parents Evening - next week 

Our Parent Consultation meetings will take place during the week commencing 11th November 2024.

Please note there will not be any clubs run by class teachers or the sports coach this week. External clubs will continue as usual.

These meetings will take place face to face in classrooms. 

Please note each appointment will last 10 minutes. You will have an opportunity to see your child’s books either before or after your appointment time.

If you are unable to make an appointment at these times, please contact your child’s class teacher via the year group email address.  

After school club will be held in the hall Monday to Thursday. External clubs will be held either in the Club Hub or outside.

Hurst Park Primary Academy is looking for volunteers to enhance children's learning. Volunteers are highly valued and appreciated by children and staff. In the past, volunteers have helped children with reading and maintaining the Library. Volunteers must complete a comprehensive induction programme, including a DBS check, and adhere to our Safeguarding procedures. Volunteering hours are flexible.  If you are interested in making a difference, please complete the Volunteer Registration form  to apply. Please note that volunteers will not be placed in their child's class.

This week, the Kingfishers had their first exciting adventure to Forest School! With wide eyes and curious minds, they explored the wonders of the natural world around them. 

Year 1

Year One went on an autumn adventure today, exploring the school grounds to spot all the magical signs of autumn!  Nothing like learning outdoors in the crisp autumn air!

Year 2 

Seesaw has been in full swing in maths lessons in Year 2! 

Using virtual base 10 when answering tricky subtraction is the perfect toolkit. Children can drag, drop, cross out and manipulate the resources. Plus it gets saved and doesn't disappear!

Surbiton High School - ’The Addams Family’  performances at Wimbledon 

Surbiton High School are delighted to be presenting a family-friendly, musical production of ’The Addams Family’ at the New Wimbledon Theatre next month. Justplay Music School is looking for new band mates and instrumental recruits for our fun, confidence building music lessons at HurstPark school! One to one Drums, Piano, Guitar, and Bass are all available during the school day as well as our lunchtime clubs, Jamming Together. Take part in our concerts and recording opportunities and discover your child's passion for music. We also have a Rock Band camp in half term!
