 As a healthy school, we aim to educate our children with the skills, knowledge, and understanding to enable them to make informed healthy lifestyle choices. To do that effectively, we need to work in partnership with parents and carers in securing the best for every child.  A nutritious lunch provides essential energy and nutrients to help children learn and grow. A balanced packed lunch should include a variety of foods from different food groups.  

Here's a handy guide to help you create healthy and balanced packed lunches:

One portion of vegetables or salad: This could be carrot sticks, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, or a small salad. 

One portion of fruit: Choose from a variety of fruits like apples, bananas, grapes, oranges, or a small handful of dried fruit.

One portion of milk or dairy: Include a yogurt, cheese portion, or a small yogurt drink.

One portion of protein: This could be meat (like chicken or ham), fish (like tuna), eggs, beans, or any other protein source.

One portion of a starchy food: Opt for wholemeal bread, pitta bread, wraps, bagels, chapattis or rolls or other starchy food such as rice, pasta, couscous or potatoes.

All chocolate, crisps and cereal bars are not permitted due to the high salt and sugar content and/ or possible inclusion of nuts.  

Please remember we are a nut-free school.

We are excited to launch a new initiative to encourage and celebrate reading at home!

Reading regularly is crucial for developing fluency, expanding vocabulary, and fostering a lifelong love of books. To support this, we are introducing Golden Tickets!

How it works:

Each time your child reads at home, please record it in their reading record with a brief comment or the number of pages read. Children in Upper Key Stage Two are welcome and encouraged to log their own reading. Reading records will be checked Friday morning. 

Children who read at least four times a week will receive a Golden Ticket.

Golden Tickets will be entered into a weekly prize draw.

Three lucky winners will be drawn in assembly each week  and will enjoy a special story time and treat with Miss Thorndycraft at the end of the half term.

Every child who reads four times per week throughout the half term will receive a special bookmark as a reward.

We believe that reading at home, even for just a short time each day, can make a huge difference in your child's reading journey. Please encourage your child to read a variety of texts, including books, magazines, comics, and websites.

Before half term, a child was unfortunately injured in the drop-off zone, highlighting the critical need for everyone's cooperation in ensuring pupil safety.

Please park responsibly in designated areas only, and avoid double parking or blocking visibility.  Drive slowly and carefully within the drop-off zone using the one way system, being mindful of children and pedestrians.

We also ask that you respect our neighbours on Freemans Drive.  This is a residential street, and residents need clear access to their homes at all times.  Please avoid parking in front of driveways or obstructing traffic flow.   We have also received concerns about damage to the daffodils and ongoing issues with vehicles driving on the grass verges. Please park considerately and avoid driving on the grass, especially near the daffodils.

 Play and Leisure Activities for Children with Additional Needs and Disabilities

We are excited to let you know that Surrey County Council has been awarded £500,000 of grant funding to providers to enable a range of new, inclusive, community-based activities for children with additional needs and disabilities across the county. This funding has gone to a mix of different organisations, such as sports clubs, leisure centres, charities and activity providers, to support them to provide inclusive opportunities that better meet the needs of a wider range of children. These new pilot projects will be delivering activities after school, at weekends and during the holidays through to the end of March 2025. 

You can find information about the different projects Surrey are supporting through grant-funding at Pilot mainstream play and leisure activities for children with Additional Needs | Surrey Local Offer. Please note that Surrey will be updating this information regularly, as the details of further opportunities are confirmed. These pilot projects will complement the existing Short Breaks Play and Leisure services funded by Surrey County Council. We have updated the Amazon Wishlist with books that we would like to have in each class for storytime. You may view the list of items by following this link. Once purchased, these items will be delivered directly to school and opened with the children – what a great treat!

Hurst Park Primary Academy is looking for volunteers to enhance children's learning. Volunteers are highly valued and appreciated by children and staff. In the past, volunteers have helped children with reading and maintaining the Library. Volunteers must complete a comprehensive induction programme, including a DBS check, and adhere to our Safeguarding procedures. Volunteering hours are flexible.  If you are interested in making a difference, please complete the Volunteer Registration form  to apply. NSPCC Speak Out, Stay Safe Workshop

Year 2 and Year 5 pupils took part in the NSPCC's "Speak Out Stay Safe" programme. They learned all about how to stay safe, from identifying trusted adults they can talk to, to understanding the vital support offered by Childline. We are so proud of how engaged and thoughtful our children were. They have now got some fantastic new skills to help keep them safe and happy!

INSPIRE Volkswagen Event 

Our school was buzzing with excitement thanks to a brilliant visit from Volkswagen UK on Tuesday! The children were absolutely fascinated learning all about car engineering. We saw amazing questions, lots of creative ideas, and fantastic teamwork. 

Year 3 had a special assembly with the VW team where they learned who Volkswagen are, shared their own car knowledge, and even designed their dream cars! It was a truly inspiring day and a fantastic introduction to STEM education! 

Outdoor Learning  

Year 4 had a fantastic time exploring the Forest School area, discovering different habitats. Our mini-beast hunters were on a mission to find out what lives in our Forest School habitat. Lots of excitement and amazing discoveries!

Year 6 Geography Field Trip 

Year 6 children became geographers, exploring the school grounds on a special field trip.  Armed with maps, they identified human and physical features and practiced map reading skills.  This hands-on experience brought their classroom learning to life, and the data collected will be used in future lessons.
