Dates For Your Diary
Monday 12th July - Friday 16th July
The definition of Art is: the product of imagination and creativity, particularly in a physical form. This means that there are many different forms of art: paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, collage, photography, theatre, poetry, novels, music, dance, film and much more.
This year we are basing our work around the environment using four main strands: imagery (such as paintings and photography); books (writing and poetry), music and dance.
Carmen (Owls) has already created this wonderful collage.
Well done Carmen!
Please check the dates section regularly as dates may change and new dates will be added.

PIANO NEWS
There are currently 9 students having piano lessons every Tuesday in school and they have all shown enthusiasm and commitment this term. Bella from Jade class actually took an ABRSM test and impressed the examiner with her excellent dynamics and sensitive playing whilst her classmate Zac has taken his musical skills to Cubs where he entertained the troops by playing Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ at ‘Cubs’ got talent!’
Speaking of Beethoven, watch out for Cristina from Opal class who has shown immense ability at composing recently, gaining her inspiration from pieces learnt in lessons and creating music demonstrating great development and understanding as well as having both a right and left hand line. Mia from Emerald has also been composing and has used her pets for inspiration resulting in whirly hamster music and serious cat tunes!
Ted in Topaz has discovered the joy of using piano tutorials as another tool for learning and learnt to play exciting music from Minecraft and The Mandolorian which makes a nice change to the nursery rhymes you always get in music books! Our other year 5 student is Bronwyn from Sapphire and she is working towards her Prep Test ready for next term. She is also very creative and often improvises in lessons.
Caitlin from Owls has thoroughly enjoyed playing Christmas carols in June (well, there is one called ‘I wish it could be Christmas every day’). This is her reward for working so hard to learn to read music. Her classmate, Phoebe, is following in her older brother’s footsteps. He left this school with a Prep Test and Grade 1 qualification and she has made very good progress in just 10 lessons.
The youngest learner, Jessica in Rabbits has found that setting aside regular time to practice really helps and it’s fun (as well as a great achievement) to be able to read music.
Very well done to all!
