Goodbye Miss Bartlett!
We are very sad to say farewell to Miss Bartlett, who has worked at Cheam Fields for six years. She has been such an asset to our school - teaching PE lessons across the school, organising and running clubs and events and coaching many of our sporting teams to achieve great successes!
Miss Bartlett is making a career change and will be very much missed. We thank her for her hard work and dedication and wish her all the best for her new career move!
Extreme Heat Weather Warning!
There is weather warning in place next week for extreme heat. Please remember to provide your child with a water bottle and a sun hat and to apply sunscreen before coming to school. We will be adapting the school timetable to take into account the hot weather.
Your child may wear their PE kit next week if this would make them more comfortable.
There are no current plans to close school or finish early, we will inform you if this changes. Please make your own assessment of your child and keep them at home/pick them up early if you wish.
GREAT RESULTS FOR CHEAM FIELDS CHILDREN IN THE 2022 END OF KEY STAGE ASSESSMENTS / TESTS
We are delighted to share the news that the children in each cohort, who have undertaken national tests and assessments, have performed well. This includes Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6.
EYFS Achievement & Attainment 2022
The statutory EYFS framework requires the EYFS profile assessment to be carried out in the final term of the year in which a child reaches age 5, and no later than 30 June in that term. The EYFS profile is intended to provide a reliable, valid and accurate assessment of each child’s development at the end of the EYFS. It is made up of an assessment of the child’s outcomes in relation to the 17 early learning goal (ELG) descriptors.
Practitioners make professional judgement to make these assessments based on their knowledge and understanding of what the child knows, understands and can do.
Year 1 Phonics Check
The purpose of the Year 1 phonics screening check is to confirm that all children have learned phonic decoding to an age-appropriate standard. Children who have not reached this level will receive extra support to ensure they can improve their decoding skills, and will then have the opportunity to retake the phonics screening check. The pass mark this year was 32.
End of Key Stage One Assessment
At the End of Key Stage 1, children complete reading assessments and maths assessments. Each test has a different number of questions and marks available and the results are converted to a scaled score. It is this scaled score that is reported to Year 2 parents and is used nationally to see how well a school has performed. The scaled score gives an indication of how children have achieved against the nationally expected standard. A score of 100 represents the expected standard (EXS). Scores below 100 indicate that children have not yet met the expected standard for their age (WTS). These scaled scores are then used in conjunction with teacher assessments to form the final judgement.
At Cheam Fields Primary our children have met and exceeded the national standards. We are exceptionally proud of how well they have done this year; their results indicate that the vast majority of them are very well prepared for their next stage of learning. They should be congratulated on their achievements. You can see our full results below and how our school compares to the national averages in 2019 (pre-covid times).
Year 4 Multiplication Check
The purpose of the check was to determine whether your child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It is a statutory assessment that all Year 4 pupils will undertake this year. The children completed an on-screen check consisting of 25 times table questions.
End of Key Stage 2 Assessment (Unvalidated National Curriculum Tests)
Finally we are delighted to share that our Year 6 children have performed exceptionally well in this year’s National Curriculum Tests for 11 year olds. The results were published on Tuesday 5th July and are currently unvalidated at this point.
Each test has a different number of questions and marks available and the results are converted to a scaled score. It is this scaled score that is reported to Year 6 parents and is used nationally to see how well a school has performed. The scaled score gives an indication of how children have achieved against the nationally expected standard. A score of 100 represents the expected standard (EXS). Scores of 110 or above indicate pupils are working at ‘Greater Depth’ (GDS). Scores below 100 indicate that children have not yet met the expected standard for their age (WTS). The highest score a child can achieve is 120, with 80 being the lowest.
At Cheam Fields Primary our children have met and exceeded the national standards in huge numbers. We are exceptionally proud of how well they have done this year; their results indicate that the vast majority of them are very well prepared for secondary school. They should be congratulated on their achievements. You can see our full results below and how our school compares to the new national averages.
Well done to all of the children. We are exceptionally proud of you and recognise your hard work and perseverance. Thank you to all of the teachers, learning support assistants and parents for your ongoing support for the children.

Year 6 Production Review by Fynn
Rock Bottom!
Rock bottom was a highly enjoyable play to participate in and was extremely funny. I never thought that it was so funny to fall over because in one of the songs, I went absolutely crazy and slipped and fell. But then I jumped up and continued going crazy. The concept of the play is very well laid out and it really flows with all the jokes. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - I give it 5 stars!
My favourite parts are when Lady Lava says:
----------------------------------------------------------
Lady Lava: Well don’t just stand there! Say something warm and gracious!
Gravel: Good gracious, in’it warm?
----------------------------------------------------------
And also when Gravel and the Juans say:
----------------------------------------------------------
Gravel: They might try… to kill her!
TRACK A54 - TEQUILA 1
Juans: Tequila!
----------------------------------------------------------
I really loved the character Rex because he was really cute!

Green Paper SEND Consultation
The government has published their ideas on how to improve SEND processes in England in a 'Green Paper'. They want to hear the views of parents / carers, young people and children.
An ‘easy read’ version of the Green Paper is here: SEND review: right support, right place, right time (easy read). If you want to read the full version, click on this link: SEND Review - right support, right place, right time
There are two ways to tell the Government what you think:
1) The link to the Government's survey is here: DfE Green Paper Consultation These responses will be counted individually.
2) The National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) has also developed a (simpler) version here: NNPCF Survey. This should take no more than 10 - 15 minutes to complete. The responses from this survey will be used to inform the NNPCF’s response to the Green Paper consultation.
The survey will close on 22 July 2022.
The Autism Service: Parent/Carer Event 18 July

We are looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below.
If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
With the Womens EUROs being held in England this summer, we anticipate a boom in girls wanting to play football. At Carshalton Athletic, we will be running Girls teams in 2022/23 season at U8, U9, U10, U11 and U12 age groups - so basically from 6 year olds through to year 7
If any of your female pupils are interested in joining our club, please can you ask them to register at https://form.123formbuilder.com/6134749/ (you can access this form from https://www.carshaltonathletic.co.uk/trials). Don't worry about the dates against the age groups. Just register and we will be able to contact any girls interested in trying out.
Training sessions will be organised when we have sufficient numbers to make them workable and I will contact parents who register to let them know the schedule. Qualified coaches are already in place for these teams.
Sutton Young Carers
