Green Paper SEND Consultation
The government has published their ideas on how to improve SEND processes in England in a 'Green Paper'. They want to hear the views of parents / carers, young people and children.
An ‘easy read’ version of the Green Paper is here: SEND review: right support, right place, right time (easy read). If you want to read the full version, click on this link: SEND Review - right support, right place, right time
There are two ways to tell the Government what you think:
1) The link to the Government's survey is here: DfE Green Paper Consultation These responses will be counted individually.
2) The National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) has also developed a (simpler) version here: NNPCF Survey. This should take no more than 10 - 15 minutes to complete. The responses from this survey will be used to inform the NNPCF’s response to the Green Paper consultation.
The survey will close on 22 July 2022.
The Autism Service: Parent/Carer Event 18 July
Cognus are running an in-person autism parent/carer workshop on the evening of 18 July, covering difficulties with identifying emotions and strategies to support.
To attend, please complete registration of interest form.
New Community Cultural Centre
A new community cultural centre is being built in Sutton high street. To shape the design and function, they want to get feedback.
Please can you complete this survey to give your input. The more people that input, the more likely it will be a location that reflects the community and what they want.

Sutton Dyslexia Association Meeting - Face to face!
The next meeting of Sutton Dyslexia Association will be on Wednesday 15th June at 8pm at the Friends Meeting House, 10 Cedar Road, Sutton, SM2 5DA.
Laura Haupt, SIASS Manager, who has a background in Psychology and is passionate about this work and is a mum of two children with SEND will be talking about "The legal Rights of Dyslexic Pupils - and some legal grey areas".
The talk will cover the SEND Code of Practice focusing on dyslexic pupils. It will cover areas like raising concerns about Dyslexia in schools, the "Graduated Response", national funding, the "Best Endeavours" and duty of schools.
In the second half of the meeting there will be small informal groups where you can talk to other parents and members of the committee.
All parents/ Carers/teachers and support staff are welcome. Entry is free.
SIASS is Sutton's statutory service providing impartial advice and support to families of children with SEND.
On Saturday 9th July 2022, Shawley Community Primary Academy (part of the LEO Academy Trust), will be running a children's market, run by children for children. The idea is that children can set up and run their own business for the day and any profit they make will be their own. We want it to be an event for children in the community.
They would love for children from across LEO schools to have the chance to run their own stalls too. Click here for all the information and to sign up.
We are looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below.
If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
With the Womens EUROs being held in England this summer, we anticipate a boom in girls wanting to play football. At Carshalton Athletic, we will be running Girls teams in 2022/23 season at U8, U9, U10, U11 and U12 age groups - so basically from 6 year olds through to year 7
If any of your female pupils are interested in joining our club, please can you ask them to register at https://form.123formbuilder.com/6134749/ (you can access this form from https://www.carshaltonathletic.co.uk/trials). Don't worry about the dates against the age groups. Just register and we will be able to contact any girls interested in trying out.
Training sessions will be organised when we have sufficient numbers to make them workable and I will contact parents who register to let them know the schedule. Qualified coaches are already in place for these teams.
