Weekly Newsletter

9th September 2022

We express our deepest sympathies for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her dedication to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to her other realms and territories is unparalleled and we thank her for her service.

Our school will observe the mourning period whilst continuing to support our pupils, families and staff. Unless otherwise stated, please assume any scheduled activities and events we have scheduled will continue as planned.

Our school will be keeping pupils informed of news about these events as part of assemblies and class activities. If you think your child may be experiencing particular upset due to the passing of the Queen, please do let us know so we can provide additional support if needed.

We will keep you updated as information is released about the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II, and any public holidays that may occur during the official mourning period.

Here are some websites with resources to support your child during this time:

Winston Wish supporting children with the death of the Queen

Simon says child bereavement on death of the Queen

Should there be anything further we can support you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your understanding.

Start of Term Reminders & Information

Attendance & Punctuality:

Attendance at school is essential in order for children to maximise their learning and reach their full potential, as well as experiencing the rich opportunities on offer at Cheam Fields Primary Academy. We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then a form needs to be completed in advance of the absence. You can access the form and read our Attendance Policy in full here.

Please contact the School Office on 0208 644 9055 or cfoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk to report absences, informing of change of pick ups, medical appointments and all requests for admin related enquiries e.g. change of emergency contact or home address.

Punctuality to school each morning is also vital as key learning and pre-learning takes place at the start of the school day. Key Stage 1 and 2 doors close promptly at 8:55am. Reception doors close at 9am. If your child arrives after this time, they will have to enter the school via the School Office and sign in.

School Uniform Reminders:

Children are to wear full school uniform from the start of term. You can view our Uniform Policy here. Please make sure all uniform is clearly named. This includes PE kits, water bottles and lunch boxes - we can then easily return any lost items. We also ask that long hair is tied back and children do not wear nail varnish. No jewellery is allowed however, if your child has their ears pierced, they are allowed to wear plain studs, which they can remove themselves, for PE/Swimming.

Year 3-6 Only: Children are permitted to wear their PE kit on PE days (these will be shared with you in the first week of term). Please make sure they wear black shorts or jogging bottoms, a white t-shirt and a burgundy jumper on these days. Plain black trainers/plimsolls only please with no coloured symbols or logos.

Healthy Snacks & School Meals:

Children in KS2 are encouraged to bring a healthy snack in for break times. This should be a piece of fruit or vegetable only. In EYFS & KS1 fruit or vegetable snacks are provided.

You are able to have a flexible pattern for which days your child wishes to have a school meal or packed lunch. They will be asked during registration whether or not they have a packed lunch or require a school meal each day. You can view the menu for the Autumn Term here. Please remember we are a nut free school.

Communication with Teachers:

Parents are unable to walk into school with their children in the mornings. If you have any messages or questions, you can speak to a member of the leadership team on the gate or visit the School Office. If there is anything you wish to discuss regarding your child, including any concerns about their progress or wellbeing, please speak to your child’s teacher at the end of the school day. Alternatively, you can make an appointment via the School Office. The Milepost Lead is available if a further discussion is required.

Our Milepost Leads for 2022-2023 are:

Miss Boreham - EYFS Lead (Nursery & Reception)

Miss Elkins - Milepost 1 Lead (Year 1 & 2)

Mrs Brain - Milepost 2 Lead (Year 3 & 4)

Mrs Alikhan - Milepost 3 Lead (Year 5 & 6)
