A Word From Ms Williamson
What an absolutely incredible Summer Term we've had at Manor Park! Looking back, it's clear that our pupils have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, talent, and incredible spirit.
We kicked off the second half of the Summer term with exciting educational trips: Year 6 explored the Brooklands Museum, while Year 5 ventured to the British Museum. Our Year 4 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable outdoor experience at their High Ashurst Residential trip, truly immersing themselves in nature.
Our athletes continue to shine brightly: Both Year 4 and 5 participated victoriously in the Sutton Sports Partnership cricket competition, demonstrating outstanding determination and sportsmanship by winning every single game! We also celebrated our Annual Sports Days, with a special shout-out to Purple House for their outstanding performance in Year 2-5 and Yellow House for dominating the Year 6 competition. A select group of our pupils proudly represented our school at the LEO Sports swimming gala, delivering truly commendable performances. A huge well done to all involved!
The arts and music have also flourished this term. Several Year 4 pupils had the wonderful opportunity to perform beautifully and proudly at Fairfield Halls after many weeks of dedicated practice. Years 2 through 6 showcased their musical talents in fantastic performances for parents, highlighting all they've learned in their music classes this year. Year 1 also enjoyed an enriching trip to Morden Hall Park, learning all about plants.
A true highlight of the term, as always, was the Year 6 performance. This year, our pupils tirelessly rehearsed and brilliantly performed "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." It was a truly memorable production, and every child involved—whether on stage or helping backstage—played their part impeccably. Congratulations to all for making it a show to remember.
I am absolutely thrilled to share some truly momentous news: Manor Park has received an "Outstanding" judgment in all five key areas following our recent Ofsted inspection. This exceptional achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our entire school community – our wonderful pupils, our highly skilled and passionate staff, our supportive governors, and of course, our parents and carers. This is a brilliant outcome, and we couldn't be prouder of what we've achieved together.
As we close another academic year, we bid a fond farewell to some cherished members of our staff. Please join me in wishing them all the very best in their new endeavours.
Finally, I want to extend my sincere thanks to all our pupils, parents, and carers for your incredible support and dedication throughout the year.
Wishing all our Manor Park families and staff a wonderful summer holiday, full of fun and rest. We look forward to seeing you back in school on Wednesday, September 3rd, for the start of the new school year!
Fond Farewells and New Beginnings
In September we are happy to welcome to the teaching team, Mrs Hill who will be in Year 1. We also welcome Mrs Diaz-Pinto to the Office Administration Team and Mr Reginald who joins the PE team as a Sports Apprentice.
As outlined in the staff changes letter to parents, we say goodbye to some staff at the end of this academic year: Ms Zinczuk (Current Y4 teacher), Mrs Hasan (Current Y5 teacher), Mrs Allchurch (Rec TA) and Mr Martin (Sports Apprentice) who will continue his development at another LEO school. I am sure that you will join us in thanking them for all of their exceptional work and commitment to Manor Park Primary Academy children.
We also say a huge thank you to Mrs. Webb, our Senior Nurture Teaching Assistant, who will be moving into a central Trust position. Mrs. Webb has dedicated an incredible 19 years to our school, consistently providing exceptional support to countless children across all year groups for a variety of reasons, always with immense care and understanding. Her nurturing presence has made a profound difference to so many of our pupils.
Joining her in a central Trust role will be Ms. Laing, our Senior Family Support Worker. Ms. Laing has been an invaluable and constant source of support for our families, offering guidance, assistance, and a compassionate ear whenever needed. Her dedication to ensuring our families feel supported has been truly outstanding.
While we will deeply miss their daily presence and invaluable contributions to our school community, we are incredibly proud that their expertise and dedication have been recognised at a Trust level. They will undoubtedly continue to make a significant positive impact in their new roles, benefiting even more children and families across our Trust.
Please join me in extending our heartfelt thanks and very best wishes to Mrs. Webb and Ms. Laing as they embark on these new chapters.
This term, our Nursery pupils thoroughly enjoyed the culmination of their 'Big Wide World' project. They engaged in discussions about various holidays and diverse modes of transport, including bicycles, scooters, trains, and airplanes. The pupils explored different global regions by learning about indigenous animals and listening to stories such as 'Tanka Tanka Skunk' and 'Handa's Surprise'. The pupils also acquired greetings in several languages. They participated enthusiastically in different cultural dance styles, including Flamenco, Hula, and Irish dancing. They investigated a variety of international foods, sharing aspects of their own cultural cuisines and those of others.
The half-term concluded with the 'Splash!' mini-project, focusing on water-based activities. Given the recent warm weather, pupils greatly enjoyed hands-on exploration of water and ice, observing melting, freezing, floating, and sinking.
Time was dedicated to preparing the pupils for their transition to Reception, including visits to play areas and participation in 'Stay and Play' and 'Meet the Teacher' events. The pupils gained an understanding of what to expect in Reception and expressed considerable excitement for their new chapter in September.
This term, Reception pupils began their new half-term topic, 'On the Beach.' An ice cream van visited the school, allowing pupils to purchase ice creams. Pupils enjoyed splashing in paddling pools and running through sprinklers.
Parents were invited to observe PE lessons and attend Sports Day earlier in the week. Pupils demonstrated their skills in ball dribbling, egg and spoon races, and obstacle courses during Sports Day.
In English, pupils practised writing holiday lists, letters to new teachers, sentences about underwater scenes, and postcards. They continued to practise phonics, applying Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds. Pupils also focused on spelling harder-to-read and spell words.
In Maths, pupils explored halving by sharing items equally and identified odd and even numbers. Capacity was investigated in the garden, with pupils comparing volumes of different containers and learning related vocabulary such as 'full' and 'empty.'
What a busy and brilliant half term Year 1 has had!
Year 1 pupils made incredible progress in Writing. They crafted clear instructions for jam sandwiches, linking it to their DT lessons. Pupils also invented captivating stories and explored the world of poetry. They confidently performed their poetry to the class. Welcoming letters were also written for the incoming Year 1 pupils.
In Maths, pupils focused on skip counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. They became experts in understanding money. Pupils began learning to tell time to the hour and half hour.
Science lessons saw them explore parts of plants and animals, and learn how to group them. This scientific knowledge was applied during a trip to Morden Hall Park, where they were able to explore the local wildlife and investigate and identify a variety of plants.
In RE, pupils delved into Hinduism, with a particular highlight being the discovery of Holi, the festival of colour.
This term, Year Two pupils delved into the exciting world of Design and Technology. They explored the mechanics of levers, sliders, and embellishments. Pupils applied this knowledge to design and construct their own moving greeting cards and bag tags. These creations featured functional moving parts and decorative finishes. This hands-on experience allowed them to understand fundamental engineering principles.
In English, pupils crafted intriguing Kenning poems, playing with language and metaphor. They enjoyed sharing their poems and challenging peers to guess the subjects. Mathematics lessons saw them tackling a wide variety of word problems across all four operations. These activities significantly strengthened their numerical fluency and critical thinking.
Year Two also showcased their musical talents, performing Samba music from Brazil with various instruments.
This term, Year 3 pupils showcased an impressive range of skills across multiple subjects. Their musical talents were evident as they honed their drumming abilities. They specifically focused on the vibrant rhythms of Brazilian samba. Dedicated practice culminated in a fantastic group performance for parents.
Beyond music, pupils continued their fascinating journey into ancient history, exploring the world of the Romans. This exploration involved a hands-on project where they designed and constructed their own Roman towns.
Year 3 also embarked on an exciting Design and Technology project. They put their woodworking skills to the test by creating mini greenhouses. This activity combined DT expertise with scientific principles, as they incorporated different materials. Pupils successfully demonstrated the properties of opaque, transparent, and translucent substances.
This week, our Year 4 musicians showcased their impressive skills on the trombone and trumpet, instruments they had diligently learned throughout the term in their weekly music lessons. A select group of these talented pupils represented our school at Fairfield Hall in Croydon. They performed alongside pupils from other LEO schools, contributing to a truly memorable musical event.
Year 4 pupils also participated in an engaging water safety workshop, delivered by the Sutton Sports Partnership, where they learned essential safety guidelines. Following the workshop, they continued their learning with a thorough in-class session, reinforcing their understanding of water safety protocols.
The highlight of the week was the two-night residential trip to High Ashurst. This trip offered pupils numerous opportunities to engage with the natural environment. At High Ashurst, pupils undertook various challenges designed to foster their personal, social, physical, and emotional development.
Year 5 has had a very productive summer term learning a diverse range of knowledge about Ancient Greece! Pupils significantly developed their oracy skills through the creation of podcasts, discussing the most significant Greek historical figures. The year group also embarked on an enriching trip to the British Museum, where they immersed themselves in Greek artifacts and artwork.
The highlight of the term was undoubtedly the "Greek Express and Share" event. Pupils enthusiastically shared their extensive learning from across the curriculum, showcasing their fascinating discoveries about Ancient Greece. Parents joined pupils in the classroom to collaboratively construct magnificent Greek temples. The creativity, teamwork, and family support resulted in a truly memorable and highly successful day.
A crucial element of their learning involved an enthusiastic exploration of water safety. Year 5 participated in an informative water safety workshop, expertly led by the Sutton Sports Partnership. Pupils demonstrated commendable responsibility in learning how to keep themselves and others safe near water.
This term, our Year 6 pupils concluded their primary school journey with a magnificent showcase of their abilities and dedication.
A highlight was their exceptional production of 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory', where pupils demonstrated remarkable acting, singing, and dancing talents.
In Science, pupils explored natural selection, creating insightful fact files about Charles Darwin. Art lessons saw pupils develop observational drawing skills with a 'Bees, Beetles and Butterflies' theme, producing stunning mixed media and pop art. In History, pupils deepened their understanding of World War 2, focusing on the significant Battle of Britain.
Final Forest School sessions provided opportunities for pupils to connect with nature, developing problem-solving and teamwork skills. Pupils honed survival skills by building dens, created natural art, caught mini-beasts, and mastered using flint and steel.
The term culminated in a delightful picnic on the field, allowing pupils to relax and celebrate their achievements.
We are incredibly proud of all that Year 6 achieved throughout the term and their time at our school. We extend our best wishes to all Year 6 pupils as they transition to secondary school.
FOMP has had another amazingly successful year packed with fun and lots of events that helped our school acquire much needed equipment, learning opportunities, contributions towards school visits, and last, but by all means not least, our Summer Fair.
In the last couple of weeks FOMP has been running the last of their events for this academic year - Ice cream sales.
All this has wrapped another amazing year for FOMP and the children of Manor Park Primary.
Please note that the PTA AGM will take place on Wednesday, 8th October at 6pm at the Upper Hall.
Thank you!
