Congratulations, Mrs Hart and Miss Bishop!
On Sunday 2nd October, two of our wonderful members of staff took part in the London Marathon! They both completed the gruelling task and we are incredibly proud of them.
Miss Bishop was raising money for the ovarian cancer charity, Ovarcome. Mrs Hart was raising money for Place2Be, a charity dedicated to improving children's mental health.
If you would like to add to their fundraising pages, please follow the links below:
Good luck, Mrs Judge!
Today, we wish Mrs Judge all of the best as she departs on her maternity leave. We know that she will be thoroughly missed by staff, students and parents. Good luck!
School Updates
Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 30th September, the Friends of Cheam Common hosted a Coffee Morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. So many parents baked and brought in donations for the coffee morning. The morning managed to raise £394.59 for vital research and support for those affected by cancer.
Thank you to all that baked and donated, and a special thank you to the wonderful Friends of Cheam Common for organising such a friendly, thoughtful and successful event.
Harvest Festival Donations and Sutton Food Bank
On Friday 30th September, our Year 3 students led their first assembly: a Harvest Celebration. They sung a beautiful song about the purpose of Harvest Festival and explained where the food donations brought in by our families would be going. This week, our School Council helped Mrs Culver and Mr Ewing to load up the donations and bring them to Sutton Food Bank. We would like to say a massive thank you to all of our families that donated vital food supplies to our Harvest Appeal.
Year 6 Bikeability
Year 6 children have the opportunity to take part in our Bikeability sessions in November. These sessions focus on ensuring your child knows how cycle safely, with particular lessons on how to navigate roads and traffic in a safe manner. Your child must have, and be able to bring, a bike to school for every day of their three day course. For extra information, and to sign your Year 6 child up, please read this letter. There are only 13 spots remaining!
Secondhand books and board games
Do you have any secondhand books or board games that you no longer need? At Cheam Common, we would appreciate donations of any of these items. Books are always appreciated and board games are extremely useful, especially during wet play! Simply drop these into the office or ask your child to hand them to their class teacher. Thank you for your support in advance!

TCS Mini Marathon
This week, children across the school have taken part in the TCS Mini Marathon. This has involved running 2.6 miles across the course of the week. This week, trials for our Cross Country team have also taken place. It has been wonderful to talk about how running and other forms of exercise can benefit our physical and mental health.
Success for our Y5 Girls' Football Team
Our Y5 Girls' Football Team had another successful week, winning their game in the first round of the U10 Surrey Schools FA Cup. They won against a great Brookfield side with a score of 7-2. Well done, girls!
Y3 and 4 Multi Skills Festival
An excited group of Y3 and 4 pupils were chosen to represent the school at the Sutton Schools Multi Skills Festival. The children were able to experience a range of sports that they may not have played before, as well as improving their coordination skills.
Reading Raffle Winners
Our prizes arrived for our Reading Raffle Winners this week. Every child who reads every day and remembers to write in their Home/School Diary gets entered into the Reading Raffle every week. In Celebration assembly, a winner from Year 3/4 and 5/6 is picked out and those children are able to choose a brand new book of their choice to take home. Well done to our winners from this term so far!

‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.'
We are also looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below.
If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
