Thank you to those parents who attended our SEND Coffee Morning on Wednesday. It was wonderful to bring our community together and to have conversations in a safe, comfortable and warm atmosphere.
Please make a note of the next date below. We're hoping to get even more parents together!
Next SEND Coffee Morning date: Thursday 14th November (8:45-9:45am)
On Monday 21st October, we would like to invite parents into school to come and see our children learning in their classrooms.
Parents are free to arrive between 2:15-2:30pm for coffee, then you will be invited to classrooms from 2:30-2:55pm to see your children's class in action and even to take part in activities with your child.
If you would like to attend, please complete this short Google Form, so that we can make arrangements.
Thank you so much to our families who donated goods to our Harvest Festival collection this week.
On Wednesday, some members of School Council will be travelling to Epsom and Ewell Food Bank and to local charity shop, SOS!SEN to drop off these donations. We look forward to continuing to support local charities and groups throughout the year.
Please watch this video that our School Council made to promote our Harvest Festival.
Remember: You have until Wednesday morning to bring in donations.
We ask our parents to please be mindful of parking restrictions around our school. We care about our local community and want to ensure we do not impact their lives negatively.
Please take care not to block driveways when parking, not to park on the zig-zagged lines outside the office, and to be patient with one another.
We met for the first time on Thursday. These children have volunteered their time to help others at lunchtime. They can't wait to receive their badges and to get started.
There are two age categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year-olds. All children need to do is write a story they would love to read in 500 Words or less.
We would love children of all abilities to enter; spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - it's all about creativity!
50 finalists will be invited to go to a glamorous grand final at Buckingham Palace in February next year, where the bronze, silver and gold winners in each category will have their stories read out by celebrities.
There are also lots of prizes to be won - each winner will take home a bundle of books and the gold winners also win 500 books for their school library.
Not only that, the winning stories will receive an original illustration from Dapo Adeola, Nigel Parkinson, Lydia Monks, Momoko Abe, Rob Biddulph or Yasmeen Ismail.
It's incredibly important to us that children of all abilities and backgrounds are able to take part in the competition; therefore each school that enters a story and receives 50% free school meals or more, is entitled to a £50 National Book Token and three £10 book tokens for their pupils.
Throughout the year the Young Writers host a range of competitions for 7-12 year olds. This time round, the theme is Wonderverse Poetry! Wonderverse Poetry is an exciting, fun way to engage 7-12 year-olds with creative writing by inspiring them in different themes.
Children will be inspired to delve into their imaginations to write a poem about any topic. Using any style or technique, they can write about incredible worlds or fantasy creatures, express their inner thoughts or emotions, describe their favourite people, places or hobbies, or write about your class topic. Watch this video to find out more.
The opportunity to see their work in print will inspire our pupils to get writing, and everyone chosen for publication will receive a certificate of merit. There are also fantastic prizes to be won, including an incredible £1,000 for the school!
At the end of the last academic year, we opened up the competition of Ancient Adventures across the school. We are pleased to announce that 64 entries have been chosen and will be published in the book: Ancient Adventures - Story Time. Successful entrants will be informed on prizes etc later when more information is received.
Let's take our pupils into the Wonderverse today! If this sounds like something you are interested in, speak to your learning council representative, your class teacher or Miss Holloway.
Closing Date: Friday 25th October 2025.

As part of our ongoing efforts to encourage creativity and hands-on learning in our art classes, we are in need of some additional supplies. To help protect the children's clothing during art activities, we would like to kindly ask for donations of old shirts or t-shirts that can be used as art aprons. Ideally, long-sleeved shirts would be most suitable, but any size or style is greatly appreciated!
If you have any old shirts or t-shirts at home that you no longer need, we would be grateful if you could send them into school with your child to give to Miss Maclean (4M).
Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support.
Miss Maclean
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Check out what our children have been up to this week at Cheam Common Junior Academy!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Thank you, Finlay, for your book donations. Enjoy your birthday tomorrow!
We have loved receiving some fantastic homework so early in the term!
Remember: Each year group's homework matrix can be found in the section below. Completing these tasks is optional but can really help to enrich the children's learning and understanding of these topics.
