We are sure you will have heard from your children that we have started our very own school radio station this week! We welcomed into school, Russell Prue, who has been training teachers and children in how the radio station works.
We received over 170 requests from children in Years 3, 4 and 5 to take part in a training session after school. These sessions were limited to sixteen children per day so were chosen randomly. Every child in school will have an opportunity to work on the radio in the coming months.
Tuesday: Live show Wednesday: CCJ Sports broadcast Thursday: Live show
🎵 Amazon Music 🎵
Pupils across the school started by requesting the songs they would like to be part of the radio station. If any parents would like to donate to our Amazon fund to purchase music for the radio then please gift any amount you can on an Amazon E-Gift Card to ccjradio@leoacademytrust.co.uk We would be very grateful.
Thank you to the families who brought in donations for DONS Local Action Group today. It is incredible to see such empathy being demonstrated and modelled to our children.
We are hoping to organise food bank donations dropoffs weekly in the summer term. However, this would require a few helpful volunteers to collect and organise these donations.
If you are interested in giving up a little time and would like us to put you in touch with these organisers, please complete this short Google Form.
Thank you in advance!
If you have any school uniform that your child has outgrown, there are two ways that you can donate this:
To our PTA by emailing: friendssecondhanduniform@gmail.com
or
To the Sutton Community Uniform Shop. You can find out more information here.
Year 4: High Ashurst Parent Meeting
Wednesday 8th May (9am and 6pm)
This meeting will also include key information about the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check.
Year 5: Devon Parent Meeting
Year 6: Isle of Wight Parent Meeting
We were so impressed to hear that Thea's mum (Year 6) is walking 100 miles throughout May in order to raise money for Cancer Research.
If you would like to donate to this fantastic cause, you can do so here!
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
🎙 LEO Radio: Throughout the week, we have been starting to train our children in how to use our brand-new radio station. You can check out our children enjoying the music at break times in the video here.
🎾 Year 3/4 Tennis: On Tuesday, some of our Year 3 and 4 children represented Cheam Common in the Sutton Sports Year 3/4 Red Ball Tennis competition, at Purley Sports Club. All children should be proud of themselves, and our children's teams finished 7th and 12th.
⚽ Surrey Cup Semi Final: On Friday afternoon, our Year 6 Girls' Football Team travelled to Cheam Park Team to take on St Mary's in the Surrey Cup Semi Final. It was a tight game... but the team managed to win 3-0, with goals from Jasmine and Issy. This means we are now Surrey Cup Finalists!
If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it!
Mushiir took part in a Bee Sports Basketball Tournament, held at Carshalton Boys. He scored the field goals that led to his team winning the trophy. Congratulations, Mushiir!
Isabella took her LAMDA Solo and Group Stage 2 examination last month. She received a Distinction in both - well done!
Amara completed her Hapkido (Korean martial arts) grading last week and passed! She is now a blue belt and also received a medal for her performance!
At the weekend, Krysha took part in the Swimathlon, which raises money for Cancer Research and Marie Curie. To take part, Krysha swam 400m in 17 minutes and 59 seconds.
We are so proud of her achievement!

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
Please click here to access the Local Authority's Ambitious for SEND parent newsletter to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area. To receive these newsletters (three produced each year) please subscribe to the local area Ambitious for SEND newsletter. It is a great way to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area. We particularly welcome applications from boys, those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our programmes. Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

2. an interest in drama and performing skills.
3. the ability to collaborate well with others and follow direction.
How to apply?
Please head to our website - all details on how to apply can be found here
Round 1 audition (Sat 20 July): successful applicants will be invited to a one-hour audition workshop at the Royal Opera House.
Round 2 audition (Sun 21 July): successful applicants from the round 1 auditions will be invited to attend a call back audition, during which the final selections will be made.
What to expect at an in-person audition
Children invited to attend in-person auditions will join 30 other children for a one-hour workshop. This will be led by two of our ROH artists who will run music and drama-based games and singing activities. We aim for our audition workshops to be fun, friendly, and relaxed, and regardless of the outcome, educational and enjoyable for all.
