We are writing to provide clarity in how we will be using Chromebooks during unstructured times such as wet play, breakfast club, and after-school club. Chromebooks will no longer be available for general use during these periods.
This decision has been made as part of our ongoing efforts to promote a balanced and healthy environment for our students. We want to encourage more interaction, physical activity, and creative play during these times. A key factor in this decision is to help limit passive screentime.
It's helpful to understand the difference between active screentime and passive screentime.
Active Screentime: This involves engaging with content in a way that is interactive, creative, educational, or promotes critical thinking. Examples include using a Chromebook for coding, creating presentations, researching a topic for a project, or using educational apps that require problem-solving.
Passive Screentime: This typically involves consuming content without significant interaction or creative output. Examples include watching videos, Browse social media aimlessly, or playing games that require little critical thinking or physical input.
While Chromebooks are invaluable tools for active screentime within the curriculum and for specific educational tasks, we have observed that their use during less structured times often falls into the category of passive screentime.
By removing the option of Chromebooks during wet play, breakfast club, and after-school club, we aim to encourage children to engage in alternative activities such as reading, drawing, playing board games, interacting with their peers, or participating in organised physical activities where available.
Please note that Chromebooks can continue to be used at home at parents discretion.
Tuesday 1st July
Please note our back up date of Thursday 10th July in case of bad weather.
All remaining class and team photos will take place on Wednesday 11th June - including 5G, 6B and 6W.
Please see the 'Upcoming dates' section below for lots of our Summer Term dates.
You can find out about what your child will be learning in the second half of the Summer Term by looking at their Curriculum Newsletters below.
You will also find Homework Matrix information on these.
Thank you for your continued patience with our changing PE timetables. We hope you understand that these changes are made to ensure that every one of our children receive their two hours of PE every week, as well as managing swimming, Forest School, music, as well as so much more!
Due to a busy first week back after half term, some classes will have PE on different days. You will have been contacted if your child's class is affected by this.
The classes affected are 4H, 5I, 5H and Year 6.
Between Monday 23rd and Friday 27th June, we will be celebrating Maths Week London.
All children are invited to take part in our LEO-wide competition about famous historical mathematicians. You can choose from either Ada Lovelace or Albert Einstein, and complete an activity about their life.
There are activities for all ages, from Nursery to Year 6.
<-- See the poster here for more information about Ada Lovelace.

Monday 30th June
We are excited to announce the date of our second ever CCJ Careers Fair on Monday 30th June (1-3pm).
As we did last year, we would like to invite parents to partake in this Careers Fair. If you would be willing to give up your afternoon to come in and speak to classes about your career, please complete this Google Form.
We recognise that this date is far in advance. If your plans change, please do not worry. This is simply a register of interest.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Check out what our children have been up to this week at Cheam Common Junior Academy!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We have loved receiving some fantastic homework this term!
Remember: Each year group's homework matrix can be found in the section below. Completing these tasks is optional but can really help to enrich the children's learning and understanding of these topics.

Daniel, Leo, Jonathan and Alex played in their very first cricket match for the Worcester Park Lions Under-9s. Although the team didn’t win, it was a fantastic introduction to cricket, and all the boys had a great time on the field! We are so proud of you.
Scarlett has proudly won a bronze medal at her club championships and was further awarded the ‘Hard Worker Achievement Award’. Well done!
Martha Beck has moved up to Stage 7 in her swimming class at Cheam Leisure Centre. We are proud of you, well done Martha!
Hannah and her football team took part in a tournament over the weekend, and managed to achieve four wins and two draws! What an achievement!
Callum's football team had their end-of-season awards yesterday and he was awarded 'Manager's Player of the Season'. Well done!
Last Saturday, Chloe (and many of our amazing children) took part in the Pure Vibez annual dance show at the Leatherhead Theatre. They have been practising their street dance routines for the better part of a year in preparation. Well done!
"I would just like to send a message on behalf of the amazing dance teachers, many proud parents, grandparents and family members to congratulate all of the children from both the infants and juniors who took part in their annual dance show at Leatherhead theatre on Saturday. “Take it to the Streetz” They shone like the bright stars that they are! With the help and guidance from their amazing dance teachers and the endless hours of practising both at home and in the studio to display all their hard work and dedication on that stage. The performances they put out were nothing short of outstanding, as well as their behaviour both on and off of the stage and they should be so proud of themselves, the dance school and their families all proud. Well done children. You're all amazing little stars ."
