Cheam Common Junior Academy: Kingsmead Avenue, Worcester Park, KT4 8UT
Email: ccjoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk http://www.cheamcommon.org.uk/
Today, we celebrated our second annual Culture and Heritage Day, organised by the amazing Sama and Melinda (4M). Children were invited to wear traditional dress that represented their culture, heritage or ancestry.
Check out some of the photos below of our children. Children were also find enough to bring in traditional food, flags and some information to share about their heritage too. It is important to us to recognise and celebrate our school's diverse range of cultures, and to give our children the voice to speak about their heritage with courage. We are so proud of all of our children for asking positive and curious questions throughout the day, and making one another feel welcome.
If you would like to sign up to volunteer as our Cheam Common Summer Fair on Saturday 12th July, you can do so here.
RE Artefacts Donation
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we aim to make our Religious Education (RE) lessons vibrant and engaging. We study various religions and worldviews across the school, including Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism and Humanism.
To help bring these lessons to life, we are seeking donations of religious artefacts. Do you have any items you would be willing to donate, such as small statues, prayer mats, crosses, menorahs, or books representing Humanist values?
Any contributions would be warmly appreciated and used with great care to enhance our pupils' understanding and respect. Please bring any suitable items to the school office, labelled for 'Miss Holloway'. I thank you in advance for any donations.
Parent Speakers in RE
Would you like to help bring our Religious Education (RE) lessons to life at Cheam Common Junior Academy?
We are looking for enthusiastic parent volunteers who would be willing to share insights into their faith, religion, or worldview with our year groups. This is a fantastic opportunity to enrich our pupils' understanding of the diverse beliefs we study, including Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Humanism.
Your personal experiences and perspectives can make a huge difference, helping our children develop empathy and a deeper appreciation for different ways of life. No special presentation skills are needed – just a willingness to share!
If you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer speaker, please complete our short Google Form to allow the organisation to begin!
Thank you in advance for considering this valuable opportunity to support our RE curriculum.

We are excited to announce that you can now log same-day absences for your children directly through the Parent Portal or Arbor App. Simply navigate to the Attendance section, click "Log Absence," and fill in the details. You can adjust the start and end times if it is not a full-day absence. Once submitted, school staff will review and either approve or reject the request. You will see approved absences in the Attendance tab.
Please note, this feature is only for same-day absences; for any extended or future absences, please continue to complete and submit the request for exceptional absence. We will also continue to use the same day absence google form. If you need to change an unapproved absence request, you will need to delete it and create a new one, as editing is not possible. Once an absence is approved, it cannot be deleted through the app, so you will need to contact the school for any further modifications.
This new reporting method will be used alongside our other established reporting procedures
Request for Exceptional Absence Form in advance for future appointments and exception absence.
Cheam Common Juniors' Absence Form for sickness and same day medical appointments.
Monday 30th June
We are excited to announce the date of our second ever CCJ Careers Fair on Monday 30th June (1-3pm).
As we did last year, we would like to invite parents to partake in this Careers Fair. If you would be willing to give up your afternoon to come in and speak to classes about your career, please complete this Google Form.
We recognise that this date is far in advance. If your plans change, please do not worry. This is simply a register of interest.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Check out what our children have been up to this week at Cheam Common Junior Academy!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We have loved receiving some fantastic homework this term!
Remember: Each year group's homework matrix can be found in the section below. Completing these tasks is optional but can really help to enrich the children's learning and understanding of these topics.

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Partners including CAMHS, Sutton Local Authority, Education and the Voluntary Community Sector are working with parents/carers to design a pilot to provide early support to families that may have concerns that may be related to Autism or ADHD.
The pilot will aim to provide early support to children and young people with or
without a formal diagnosis.
To make sure this pilot service truly meets the needs of families in Sutton, we would be extremely grateful if you could complete the following short survey:
https://forms.office.com/e/swsnFC9jmK
Your feedback will help to:
Identify gaps in support experienced by parent/carers, ensure that the pilot service is informed by parent/carers and that families receive the help that they need, and improve coordination between services.
The survey should take approximately 15-20 mins to complete; it is open until 23rd June 2025.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Diana Salgado, Clinial Service Lead for the Leads Based Model team, through the email:
