Please note that we will be observing the National Bank Holiday on Monday 19th September, in honour of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. School will be closed on this day. We will be reopening as usual for the rest of the week.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Miss Harland had her baby at the end of last week. She welcomed a healthy baby girl, Arielle Ivy, into the world and we all can't wait to meet her!
We wish Miss Harland and her family all the best in the coming months.
The week beginning 26th September, the school will be holding the annual Harvest Festival celebrations. As usual we would like to ask for your support in donating a variety of goods which will then be distributed to a Sutton Food Bank to help support local families in need. These donations can be handed in any day that week at the gate or at the office. There will be a Harvest Assembly on Friday 30th September and all donations will be displayed in this assembly.
At the moment, the food bank is making up food parcels that include a variety of items. They are asking for these particular items: Tinned fruit, instant noodles, tinned tomatoes and tinned vegetables, small jars of coffee, longlife orange juice, both tinned and cup soup, UHT milk (semi-skimmed and whole), tinned spaghetti in tomato sauce, biscuits, sugar (500g), rice pudding, sponge puddings, small chocolate bars, shower gel, shampoo, deodorant.
Please note that Sutton Food Bank have plenty of baked beans, pasta and cereals and ask for donations that are not the larger sized variety.
Please come and join us on Friday 7th October between 9am-10am to meet our new allocated Family Support Worker, Alice Whyman. She will be able to answer any questions and will also be providing some resource packs and signposting to helpful services if needed. This will be a very relaxed and informal meeting. Please feel free to drop-in and say hello and stay for as little or as long as you like.
All Year 6 parents will have received an email regarding Bikeability today. This is a course that we have run at Cheam Common for many years, which helps children to gain the confidence they need to cycle on the roads. Please check your emails today if you are interested in signing your child up.

Supporting Sutton Initiatives
Reducing the use of physical chastisement in Sutton
There are many different views about physical chastisement, but it is widely accepted there are much more effective ways to teach children right from wrong.
As a local authority, Sutton has seen a number of children coming to the attention of police and social care due to the use of physical chastisement and as such has worked with other local authorities on an initiative to reduce this number.
In line with this initiative, we agree that anything that causes harm to a child is unacceptable.
As a school we have a duty to report incidents of suspected or confirmed physical chastisement to social care and the police which leaves visible bruising, grazes, scratches, minor swelling, cuts as well as stress injuries from prolonged standing, position holding as these are banned by law in the United Kingdom.
If you would like support on how to manage your child’s behaviour at home, please do not hesitate to contact us.
