We are delighted to announce that our new 2026 September Year 3 cohort is full! When applying to Cheam Common Junior Academy, parents were asked to give their reasons for choosing us. We've created an infographic to represent this underneath.
Friday 6th March
We are delighted to announce that we will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 6th March. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and share our collective passion for reading.
To mark the occasion, we invite all children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Whether they choose a classic protagonist, a modern-day hero, or a character from a beloved picture book, we cannot wait to see their imaginative costumes. Please ensure outfits are practical and comfortable for a full day of school activities.
Our new Curriculum Newsletters have been released. They can be found below, and can always be found further down the newsletter.
Before the half term break and as part of our mid-year review, letters will be sent to families of children with attendance below 90% (the threshold for persistent absence). These are routine administrative reminders to help you keep track of your child’s time in school. You can check your child's current marks anytime via the Arbor app.
Class teachers will be available to discuss attainment and 'catch-up' support for any gaps caused by absence during Parent Consultations after half-term. Please remember that persistent absence or 10+ sessions of lateness can result in Local Authority fines. We look forward to working together to support your child’s progress!
🐶 Dogs: Please ensure that dogs are on leads and under control. If you believe that your dog is not safe to be around children, please do not take it onto school grounds.
🛝 Playground equipment should not be used at the end of the day. This can encourage large groups of children playing unsupervised, which can be dangerous, as well as delaying the closure of gates.
🚗 Paths and roads: A reminder that, although Sutton Safe Streets are in place on Kingsmead Avenue, the road is still open to those with a permit. We have seen an increase in children cycling on the road, or families walking up and down the road, and not noticing cars (which can be incredibly quiet now). Please ensure that your children are being safe on the roads when travelling to and from school.
🅿️ Parking on double yellow lines is not safe for our children and families. Please be considerate of others.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Children across the school have been celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight by bringing in delicious baked goods this week, all made with Fairtrade ingredients.
Check out Remi and Casper's bakes to the right, and Ziyi's Canva all about banana bread below.
Friday 12th June
On the afternoon of Friday 12th June, we will be hosting our third annual Careers Fair.
We would be interested in inviting parents into school to talk about their jobs and to answer questions from children about their jobs/careers. We would love to find a real mix of jobs and vocations amongst our community in order to show the children a wide variety of future careers out there. Additionally, if you know of someone with an exciting career who you believe would be interested, please state this in the extra details section.
If you would be interested, please complete this Google Form and put the date in your diary!
If you would like to explore ways that our Family Support Worker could support your family, please complete this Google Form.
Please email ccjextendedservices@leoacademytrust.co.uk or phone 07739360621.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Check out what our children have been up to this week at Cheam Common Junior Academy!

Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We have loved receiving some fantastic homework this term!
Remember: Each year group's homework matrix can be found in the section below. Completing these tasks is optional but can really help to enrich the children's learning and understanding of these topics.

Thank you so much for supporting the second hand uniform sale on Friday. We are delighted that good quality school uniform can be reused and help families.
Going forward, we need to reduce the uniform service that we offer unfortunately. We will no longer be taking uniform email requests for the foreseeable future. The uniform service has expanded immensely with donations and requests over the past year. Whilst it has been absolutely wonderful to offer this service to the school community; sadly, we don't have the volunteers to sustain the huge amount of time this service requires.
However, we are very happy to still offer a termly uniform sale, where we'll have plenty of uniform on offer to stock up for the term ahead.
Please leave donations at either the Infants’ or Junior’s office.
We hope you understand the decision we've had to take, and we thank you, as always, for your continued support.
