This week saw the return of the Year 6 residential trip to the Isle of Wight, previously postponed due to COVID. After an early start Sunday morning, the Year 6's were buzzing with excitement to begin the various activities planned across the week. During their stay, children visited Queen Victoria's summer residence, Osborne House, Black Gang Chime, a local theme park, Robin Hill Park, Tapnell Farm Water Sports, a brilliant production put on by Shanklin Theatre and participated in various activities both on the beach and in the water. Children have had a fantastic time with glorious weather and plenty of laughter and smiles. As the second half of year 6's begin their adventures this weekend, take a look at the photos from Group One's adventures!

On 9th July 2022, Shawley Community Primary will be hosting our first-ever children's market run by children for children and there are a few spaces left should your child wish to take part! Your child could sell pre-loved toys, games or books or set up a games stall for a bit of fun. Perhaps they make jewellery, crafts, cookies or smoothies etc?
Running a stall costs £2 and whatever your child makes on the day goes directly to them providing your child the perfect opportunity to put their entrepreneurial skills to good use. A responsible adult must support each child on the day but the child is responsible for the selling, set up, signs and clearing away.
If your child does not fancy having a stall, why not come along with some cash to have a look around and support our mini entrepreneurs! This event is purely to bring both the local and the LEO community together so we would love to see you there.

A new community cultural centre is being built in Sutton high street, where the Chicagos nightclub was previously (behind Wilkinsons), and to shape the design and function, they are working with us to get our feedback. Please can you complete this survey yourself and share with the children and the parents/carers. The more people that input, the more likely it will be a location that reflects the community and what they want.
We are working on a project for their opening and look forward to sharing more closer to the time.
As many of you may know, Mrs Kamali went off on maternity at the end of May and we are delighted to announce the arrival of her beautiful little baby girl, Maryam.
Both mother and child are healthy, happy and doing well and she is looking forward to bringing her little girl into school to meet the children later this term.
We hope you join us in sending out congratulations and well wishes during this very exciting time to both Mrs Kamali and her family.
If you are wishing to learn a new musical instrument, take up a new skill or continue to practice your musical talents, Cheam Common Junior have a piano to give a way for free.
If you would like to enquire about the piano, please speak to a member of the office team.
Please note, you would need to arrange collection for the piano. Many thanks.
The London Borough of Sutton’s Cultural Services is launching a brand new Summer Reading Club for children from 4 to 11 years of age. This year’s Summer Reading Club aims to promote reading for pleasure and to prevent the dip in reading attainment which can occur over the summer by encouraging children to read throughout the holidays.
The new Summer Reading Club promotes reading for through a wide range of both physical books and eBooks, including Audiobooks. They ask that children borrow and read six library books and invites them to join us for one or more of the exciting STEAM-themed events which will be held at our Libraries or Heritage houses this summer. The project will begin on Friday 1st July and will run throughout the summer holidays.
Parents will be able to sign their children up to the Summer Reading Club either online or at one of libraries within the Borough of Sutton and will be entered into a prize draw where they could win a family ticket to Bockett’s Farm, a family ticket to Oxygen Freejumping or one of 5 £20 Amazon vouchers. They will also receive a certificate when they return to school in September.
Please can we remind all parents / carers to be considerate of the local community, members of Kingsmead Avenue and neighbouring streets regarding on street parking.
During peak hours, we ask that those who drive their children to school, be mindful of parking across members of the public driveway, blocking in and/or restricting access for vehicles to pass.
Furthermore, even though the Sutton Street Scheme has proven successful, please note that the road is still in use and that parents, carers and children should be mindful not to walk in the road nor obstruct oncoming traffic from those who live on Kingsmead Avenue.
Many thanks.
During the recent Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Erica, Year 6 was fortunate enough to be chosen to take part as a flag bearer for the Guards of Honour during the prestigious Epsom Derby.
As part of the ceremony, Erica joined a team of Flag Bearers as they opened up the sporting event whilst being watched by several members of the Royal Family, including Princess Anne.
Congratulations and well done Erica for doing such a wonderful job!
We have had a great week, where children have been developing their tennis skills alongside playing 'Sharky Sharky' - a fun, safe way of playing tag!
Next week’s 'Craze of the Week' is Scoop Bat & Balls and the 'Game of the Week' is ‘Grandma's Footsteps’.
Our sports leaders will be on hand to help run games and crazes as well as model skills of turn taking, being respectful to adults, each other and the equipment, helping all children have a happy play time.
