Congratulations to our very own Mrs Shirley for winning the Silver Award for Digital Innovator of the Year.
Mrs Shirley has been names as a Pearson National Teaching Award Silver Winner by the Teaching Awards for her outstanding commitment to changing the lives of children not just within LEO but nationally, supporting schools through their use of technology.
We are so incredibly proud of Mrs Shirley and all of the hard work she has put in over the years to support the growth of digital technology within the curriculum.
Well done Mrs Shirley. So very well deserved!
Sutton Council is committed to making the streets outside our schools safer and healthier for our children. This is why 10 school street schemes were introduced across the borough in November 2021. Sutton Council are now seeking your feedback on a proposed scheme where your child goes to school. Your feedback will help us to understand how well the scheme is working and if there are any opportunities for improvement.
The survey opens on Monday 4th July and can be accessed here: CLICK HERE.
We would be grateful if you could complete the survey before the closing date of Sunday 17th July and we thank you for your participation.
Please can you ensure to update the school office should you move house, change personal details or wish to update contact numbers.
In order to ensure information is accurate, it is important that this is kept up to date, especially should we need to contact you for any reason.
Updates to records can be made in person, on the telephone or via the school office email, at ccjoffice@leoacademytrust.
Many thanks.
On Friday 15th July, children from School Council will be holding a 'Bring and Buy' sale in order to raise money to purchase new playground equipment and books for the library for the next academic year. The 'Bring and Buy' sale will take place during the school afternoon and continue after school in the playground. Children can bring a small amount of money and during the afternoon they will have the opportunity to come along and purchase any items should they wish.
In order to help with the 'Bring and Buy' sale, we are asking for any donations which we could sell on the day. This can include books, toys, puzzles, board games, stationary etc that is in good condition but no longer needed.
As Wimbledon fever grips the nation once again, lucky children from Year 5 & Year 6 were fortunate enough to visit the iconic tennis court as part of a fun day out organised courtesy of the London Tennis Association. Throughout the day, children were able to go behind the scenes exploring the history of the sport, watch how rackets are made, practise their serving techniques before sitting back and watching a few matches both court side and on the famous hillside area.
Well done all and thank you to Mrs Hart and Mrs Culver for accompanying the children during the day.
This week, across Cheam Common Junior, children have been celebrating everything mathematical as they take part in our annual LEO Maths Week. From math's tangrams, to cryptic brain teasers, to even these incredible 'Curves of Pursuit' diagrams, children have had fun applying their mathematical knowledge.
Congratulations to everybody who took part in the Math's challenges this week. Winners will be announced in next week's newsletter.
Thank you to Miss Kelly and Mrs Dolling for organising a brilliant fun-packed week.
Earlier this week, Year 3's took to the hall dressed up as various kings, queens, Pharaohs and even a few mummies as part of an exciting Egyptian Dress-Up day where they brought to life all they have learnt through their various curriculum topic, Temple, Tombs and Treasures!
Thank you to all the teachers involved for organising the day and to all the parents and carers for the fantastic costumes!
Ahead of next week's LEO Arts Week, Year 6 took part in a special Shadow Puppet from the Play of Light theatre company workshop organised by Miss Briggs. Children had fun understanding how to create their own shadow puppet scenes and act out their own mini performances. Some will even be featuring in this years Summer Production at the end of the term. Can you tell what it might be?
Well done to the Year 6 Boys B Team for representing Cheam Common at the LEO Sports Year 6 Football Tournament earlier this week.
Throughout the day, children took part in various matches demonstrating their excellent teamwork, perseverance and football skills. One of the b-side teams was even fortunate enough to win their games, with fantastic goals from Sid
Congratulations for all who took part and thank you to Cheam Park Farm for hosting.
Congratulations to Teya in Year 6 for her outstanding achievements in football this year.
Throughout the year, Teya has performed incredibly as part of Sutton United Women's U11 football team and as a result has been named as the 'Player's Player of the Year'. Such an achievement is fantastic and we are incredibly proud of her for receiving such an award.
Well done and we look forward to following her career in future endeavours.
Congratulations to Vasu in Year 6 for her outstanding work for charity over the recent months, where she decided to grow and cut her hair before donating to the Little Princess Trust for making wigs for children in need. After cutting 15 inches of her hair, she has raised an incredible £280. SHould you wish to donate, you can do so by following the link here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/VPVj
As well as this, Vasu has increased her charitable work by opening and running a cookies and cake school with her friends as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, conducted in Sutton Manor Park earlier this month. The money raised went towards the total raised for her 'Big Cut'.
Finally, Vasu completed her challenges by performing an Indian classical dance, known as the 'Bharantanatyam' as part of the Upahaar School of Dance. Several dances were performed on the day by Vasu and her friends.
Congratulations and well done on such an inspiring effort!

On 9th July 2022, Shawley Community Primary will be hosting our first-ever children's market run by children for children and there are a few spaces left should your child wish to take part! Your child could sell pre-loved toys, games or books or set up a games stall for a bit of fun. Perhaps they make jewellery, crafts, cookies or smoothies etc?
Running a stall costs £2 and whatever your child makes on the day goes directly to them providing your child the perfect opportunity to put their entrepreneurial skills to good use. A responsible adult must support each child on the day but the child is responsible for the selling, set up, signs and clearing away.
If your child does not fancy having a stall, why not come along with some cash to have a look around and support our mini entrepreneurs! This event is purely to bring both the local and the LEO community together so we would love to see you there.

Please can we remind all parents / carers to be considerate of the local community, members of Kingsmead Avenue and neighbouring streets regarding on street parking.
During peak hours, we ask that those who drive their children to school, be mindful of parking across members of the public driveway, blocking in and/or restricting access for vehicles to pass.
Furthermore, even though the Sutton Street Scheme has proven successful, please note that the road is still in use and that parents, carers and children should be mindful not to walk in the road nor obstruct oncoming traffic from those who live on Kingsmead Avenue.
Many thanks.
Congratulations to all those who took part in the Infants and Lower Key Stage 2 disco last Friday. Fun was had all afternoon as the children partied and danced up a storm. Thank you to all the adults who came out to support the event, it was a great success all round.

The London Borough of Sutton’s Cultural Services is launching a brand new Summer Reading Club for children from 4 to 11 years of age. This year’s Summer Reading Club aims to promote reading for pleasure and to prevent the dip in reading attainment which can occur over the summer by encouraging children to read throughout the holidays.
The new Summer Reading Club promotes reading for through a wide range of both physical books and eBooks, including Audiobooks. They ask that children borrow and read six library books and invites them to join us for one or more of the exciting STEAM-themed events which will be held at our Libraries or Heritage houses this summer. The project will begin on Friday 1st July and will run throughout the summer holidays.
Parents will be able to sign their children up to the Summer Reading Club either online or at one of libraries within the Borough of Sutton and will be entered into a prize draw where they could win a family ticket to Bockett’s Farm, a family ticket to Oxygen Freejumping or one of 5 £20 Amazon vouchers. They will also receive a certificate when they return to school in September.
