It saddens us to tell you that Mr Ewing will be leaving at the end of this term. He has secured a new job working for AFC Wimbledon, where he will be coaching their U18s team. We would like to thank Mr Ewing for his years of hard work at Cheam Common Junior Academy and wish him the best of luck.

We are extremely excited to be welcoming families to watch our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Christmas Productions next week. You should have received tickets this week for your allotted performances. Please bring these tickets with you. We expect all of these performances to be extremely busy so please ensure that you arrive on time, otherwise you risk not getting a seat. Additionally, please be patient with us during these performances; we are expecting hundreds of audience members over the two days and will be doing our best to accommodate everyone.
Please note that, while you are welcome to take photos and videos of your child performing, we are asking that these are not shared on social media, as this puts the privacy and safety of other children at risk.
For the 6pm performance, children should be dropped at the office no later than 5:40pm. This will give them time to change and be on stage ready for the show. If there is a reason that your child will not be coming back for the 6pm performance, please let your child's class teacher know.
On Saturday 17th December, Fulham FC are playing West Ham FC in a men's friendly match at Craven Cottage.
We have been given 10 tickets to this game to give to our families. If you are interested in these tickets, please fill in this Google Form.
Please note that there are train strikes on this day that may affect travel.
The deadline for filling in this form is 3pm on Tuesday 13th December. We will announce the winners that evening.
On Friday 16th December, it is the last day of the Autumn Term. Please collect your child at 2:05pm on this day. Cheam Common Infants will be closing at 2pm.
After School Club will also be closing one hour early. Please collect your child at 5pm latest.
Please ensure that your child is taking care of their Chromebook and stylus. These have been provided by the school to help your child in their education. A lot of Chromebooks are being returned to school damaged or not charged. Styluses are being lost at an alarming rate.
As you walk to school every day, you may have noticed the small outdoor space that we have outside some of the Year 6 classrooms. For the last few years, this space has been ignored and has been allowed to turn into an uninspiring piece of land, with little benefit to nature. And now, we need your help!
Children - we are looking for some inspiration for this outdoor space and we'd like to offer you the chance to design it! If you are interested in helping, please take an entry sheet from your class teacher (you may take more than one if you'd like!) or create your ideas online. We would like this area to be an oasis for both children and nature and are seeking designs from children who will think about how best to achieve this!
Deadline: End of the term (Friday 16th December)
Adults - in the new year, we will be looking for volunteers from our local community to help revitalise this space. This may involve giving up some time at a weekend to help dig up, plant, and generally help transform this outdoor space. Watch this space for more information!
The Doodle Winter Challenge is back, where children can earn virtual rewards by Doodling daily! Between the 1st and 24th December, children can unlock doors on Doodle Maths and English by earning stars. You can find out more information here. Good luck!
Every year, the Metropolitan Police's Christmas Tree Appeal raises money and collects gifts for children across London who might not get any presents this Christmas. Please scan the QR code below or find out more information here.
This week, Sutton Council published guidance on how to ensure that your child is safe in any out-of-school activities that they partake in (e.g. clubs, coaches, tutoring). Please see the leaflet below for more information.
Do you have any secondhand books or board games that you no longer need? At Cheam Common, we would appreciate donations of any of these items. Books are always appreciated and board games are extremely useful, especially during wet play! Simply drop these into the office or ask your child to hand them to their class teacher. Thank you for your support in advance!
Over the next few weeks, we would like to introduce some of the pupils who have taken up our Year 6 Pupil Leadership roles.
This week, we would like to introduce our new Head of the Peer Mediators, Elise. She is in charge of a group of children who help to ensure that break and lunchtimes are a calm and happy time. They help children who might find these times difficult, as well as ensuring that children are being safe.
We were privileged to be asked to decorate a Christmas tree at our local church: St Philip’s with Christ Church. Our Y3/4 and 5/6 Art Clubs have designed decorations for our theme: The Twelve Days of Christmas. You can check it out this weekend and even vote for it to be the winner!
On Wednesday afternoon, both the school and parents were treated to performances by the many Rocksteady bands that we support in school. Children have been practising throughout this term in their own bands. We were so impressed by the performances - there are certainly many future rockstars at our school!
If you were impressed by the Rocksteady performances and would like to sign your child up to sessions in school, please read this flyer.
On Thursday morning, we were treated to a musical extravaganza by our Choir and Orchestra. The hard work that they have put in this term really shone; there were so many fantastic group and individual performances.
Today, our children took part in an Elf Run, to raise money for our chosen charity: St Raphael's Hospice. They were all given elf hats and run for a short time, whilst enjoying Christmas music (and even a hint of snow!). There is still time to donate to our Just Giving page here.
You can find out more information about the incredible work that St Raphael's Hospice do here.

SEND & Inclusion Updates!
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
