We would like to welcome our children and families back to school. We hope you had safe holidays and are looking forward to a busy term with plenty of opportunities for our children. We have attached some key reminders below.
We ended the week with an exciting new addition to the Cheam Common Infants playground being finalised! We are so grateful to the Friends of Cheam Common for tirelessly fundraising and planning this amazing project.
Please ensure children are kept off of the equipment before and after school.
We owe the biggest thanks to Sana, Siya, Sarrinah, Navya and Maya (Year 5) for giving up their time in the summer holidays to raise some money for our school library. These amazing children created hundreds of loom bands and held various sales to sell these. They managed to raise over one hundred pounds! A special thank you goes to younger brothers and sisters who also helped out - Vedant and Niva.
What a selfless and entrepreneurial idea!
We have been so impressed by how smart our children have looked this week.
Please ensure that children's clothes are named - especially jumpers, coats and cardigans. Our lost property is full of these every year, and we would love for that not to be the case!
We are excited that most of our clubs will be starting next week.
The Autumn Term Club List can be found here - most of these clubs are now full.
Morning clubs: Children should be dropped at the office between 7:40-7:45am. They will be buzzed in and will wait in the office for their club to start. Children should come to their club wearing PE kit and have their uniform to change into afterwards (unless they have PE that day). They will be dismissed straight to class after their club.
Afternoon clubs: Children will go straight to their clubs after school. If they are unsure of where to go, they can check with their class teacher or the office. Children should change into PE kit for their sports clubs. Children should be collected from the school car park at 4:15pm. Please note that JD Football School ends at 4:30pm.
Boys' Football (4:30pm club): If your child has a 3:15pm club, they are welcome to wait in the office for this club. Otherwise, they should be dropped at the school office between 4:20-4:30pm. These children should be collected from the school office at 5:30pm.
Cheerleading: Our Cheerleading Club takes place at the Worcester Park Scout Hut (Balmoral Road). Children will be walked down by Miss Brooks and Miss Russell/Mr Ives. Children should be collected from the Scout Hut at 4:30pm. After 4:40pm, if a child has not been collected, they will be walked up to school. If your child attends After School Club, they will also be walked up to school.
Next week, we are excited to be starting PE lessons. We ask children to come into school already in their kit on the days that they have PE.
We strongly discourage children from bringing their own toys into school. In our experience, these are likely to be lost or broken, often causing great upset amongst our children. Please refrain from letting your children bring these into school.
This includes 'Labubu' dolls - these are expensive toys that we do not want to be lost or broken in school.
We do not accept any responsibility for toys that are lost or broken in school.
Please remember that any breaktime snacks for children should be healthy. Fruit and vegetables are encouraged, along with cereal or fruit bars. Crisps and chocolate are not permitted and children will be asked to return these to their lunchboxes.
This survey is about parent/carer confidence in the support offered to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within mainstream schools in Sutton.
This survey is for parent/carers of all children and young people with SEND or suspected SEND. If more than one of your children has SEND, please complete separate surveys for each child.
The information you provide will help us to understand how parents and carers feel about current practices and identify areas where further support may be needed.
Please complete this survey by 30th September 2025.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Check out what our children have been up to this week at Cheam Common Junior Academy!
We look forward to sharing lots of photos of your children learning and growing every week. This week, we have been focusing on ensuring children are settled into school, and that they feel safe and confident in their new class. We will start sharing photos next week.
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We have loved receiving some fantastic homework this term!
Remember: Each year group's homework matrix can be found in the section below. Completing these tasks is optional but can really help to enrich the children's learning and understanding of these topics.
⭐️ Star of the Week Awards ⭐️
Next week's LEO Explorer Value is 'Resilient'.
We are looking forward to hosting our first Celebration Assembly of the term next Friday!
If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it.
Reporting absences
There is no longer an option to report a child’s absence via telephone. We ask that you use the google forms below to report absence. They are also available to complete on our website using the parent tab.
We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then please complete this form:
Request for Exceptional Absence form in advance for future appointments and exception absence.
Cheam Common Juniors' Absence Form for sickness and same day medical appointments.
Our neighbours
As well as being respectful to our neighbours, please can you ensure you adhere to the parking rules within Sainsbury's Local and only park there if you are a customer.
Please ensure you do not obstruct any gates or double park during drop off or collection times.
Thank you for your support.
Moving address
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
