Our fundraising total so far is an impressive £633! There is still time to donate by clicking here. Why not ask your children how they got on today? Check out next week's newsletter to see how they got on.
Pupils from across Sutton have been working to make a tremendous positive impact on their communities throughout the challenges that 2020 and 2021 have brought. Together they have previously raised over £28,000 for local charities through various fundraising events. Many of the children wanted to thank their local hospitals, for their tireless work during the pandemic and were inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Today, on what would have been Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 101 birthday, all children at CCJ took part in a sponsored physical activity involving the number 100! Pupils in Year 3 completed 100 speed bounces, working in pairs. Year 4 aimed to complete a 100 skips and Year 5 jumped 100m (in teams!!). Year 6 have been completing a total of 100 laps of the playground throughout the week!
Money raised will go to a variety of local NHS charities that support health and wellbeing initiatives for the hardworking staff as well as funding vital equipment needed in both St Heliers hospital as well as at Epsom hospital. A just giving page has been set up and it would be great if you are able to support this event, even if it is a donation of £2 as an entrance fee. You can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cheam-common-junior-academy100challenge
Thank you for your support with all our events this year , I am sure the children will enjoy the activities and feel proud to follow in the footsteps of such a great role model.
This week, we delivered our Art work based around the theme of Hope and Happiness to Sutton Age UK so that it can be displayed in local care homes, shared community spaces in Sutton and also given to members of the local community as they return home from hospital. We hope these spread some cheer and make lots of elderly residents smile.
Class Photos will be taking place on Friday 14th May. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform on this day including their school jumper or cardigan. Any PE kit needed for this day should be brought in separately.
For this week, children are encouraged to walk to school as many times as possible. This could mean walking from home or parking further away from the school and walking the rest of the way. Any child who walks to school everyday receives a badge.
Watch out for a special assembly and our extra special badge competition to run alongside Walk to School Week!
On-line - Thursday May 27th @ 7pm

MovementWorks is an organisation that provides high-quality movement and dance education and promotes 'Action For Learning, Health and Well-Being'. MovementWorks has received recognition by The Royal Society of Arts; their project work acknowledged as having "real world impact" and were finalists in the London Sport Awards 2020 for 'Children & Young People' and the One Dance UK awards for 'Inspirational Work In Education'.
'Action for Autism' is a project supported by The London Mayor with up to 50 funded places available for children age 7 -16 (with or without a formal diagnosis of autism or related differences) Priority will be given to those living in Greater London and to those who have not had previous opportunities to work with MovementWorks. The project is particularly interested to hear from those who have been negatively affected by the pandemic either through lack of movement opportunities and/or emotionally.
The project will be a blended delivery model of Autism Movement Therapy® (mainly online with some face to face opportunities if/when restrictions allow). Autism Movement Therapy is an evidence based method and will be delivered by qualified professionals. In weekly Autism Movement Therapy® sessions students will practice techniques that support them through a structured movement and music method.
Please click here for further information about the project as well as details regarding how to book a place.
This week’s book is from the Year 6 booklist and is ‘Millions' by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
Two brothers, Damian and Anthony, are unwittingly caught up in a train robbery during Britain's countdown to join the Euro. Suddenly finding themselves with a vast amount of cash, the boys have just one glorious, appalling dilemma – how to spend it in the few days before it becomes worthless. Torn between the vices of buying a million pizzas and the virtues of ending world poverty, the boys soon discover that being rich is a mug's game. For not only is the clock ticking – the bungling bank robbers are closing in. Pizzas or World Peace, what would you choose?
If you had unlimited money, what would you use it for?
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
This week … Problem Solving
Can you find the answer?
2 x 11 = 4 x 11 =
2 x 12 = 4 x 12 =
2 x 13 = 4 x 13 =
What is the connection between the results for the
two times table and the four times table?
If 2 x 144= 288, what is 4 times 144?
4 oz of milk
4 oz of cream
1/4 tsp of vanilla (or use other flavors usually found near the vanilla in the supermarket – you can use chocolate syrup for chocolate ice cream)
4 tsp of sugar
A few drops of food coloring (optional – if you want colorful ice cream)
Lots of ice
Lots (half cup) of salt. Rock salt works best!
Small zip-lock freezer bag
Large zip-lock freezer bag
Put the milk, cream, flavoring, coloring, and sugar into the SMALL zip-bag and zip it shut (be sure it is zipped up and closed completely)
Put about a cup of ice into the large bag and cover the ice with a small handful of salt. Put the small bag with your ingredients into the larger bag.
Add some more ice and then some more salt. Keep adding salt and ice until the bag is almost full.
Zip it shut (be sure it is zipped) and then carefully hold opposite sides of the bag and shake the bag back and forth (like your steering a car) for about 5-8 minutes.
Open the larger bag and take out the smaller bag – it should be full of ice cream! Rinse off the bag under running water to remove any salt that may be near the opening of the bag.
Open and enjoy!
When you added salt to the ice, the chemistry between the two forced the ice to melt. Before the ice could melt though, it needed to borrow heat from objects that surround it. This is called an ENDOTHERMIC process. Since your ingredients are not as cold as the ice, it borrowed heat from your ingredients making them colder! When they get colder, they freeze up into ice cream. Yum!
Don’t forget to present your findings to Miss Lane or Mr Iliffe!
A nice and easy recipe, quick to prepare, easy to drink and nutritious for the body.
