We wish all of our families a happy and healthy half term. Remember: Monday 5th June is an INSET Day. We will see you all back on Tuesday 6th June!
Today, we say goodbye to Mr Edwards, who has been the class teacher of 5E this year. We are sad to see him go and will miss him very much. Mr Hollaway will be teaching 5E from next half term until the Summer Holidays.
On Tuesday 20th June, we will be running our Sports Day at the Scout Hut.
Year 3 and 4: Approximately 9:30 - 11:30am
Year 5 and 6: Approximately 1-3pm
Children will be reminded of their house colour before half term and should wear a top of that colour.
Elm = Green Willow = Yellow Oak = Red Pine = Blue
They should also bring a water bottle and weather-dependent clothing and items (e.g. suncream, sunhat). Parents are welcome to come along and spectate. However, we do ask that they stay in their allocated area for safeguarding reasons.
Parents have been emailed with a reminder of their child's house and corresponding colour.
On Sunday 11th June, LEO will be running our Children's Market.
What is the Children's Market?
It is simply a market run by children for children! We have recognised the entrepreneurial skills of many of our students and thought we would give them the opportunity to run their own business for the day. The children will take responsibility for their business idea, planning, organising, setting up, selling, handling money, working out change and clearing up at the end. They will also have the opportunity to promote their stall over the PA system, developing their confidence in public speaking and selling their products.
If your child is interested in running their own stall, you can find out more information here and sign up here.
As the weather is getting warmer, please ensure that your child is bringing a water bottle to school each day. On hotter days, they may require sunhats and suncream.
Additionally, please ensure your child is in full school uniform, including tie and appropriate shoes for school. If your child has a morning club, they will need to bring their school uniform to change into afterwards.
These can be brought into school or shared on Google Classroom before Friday 16th June.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Thank you (and happy birthday) to Angel (3F), who kindly donated a copy of Rainbow Grey to her class for her birthday!
We are pleased to announce that, due to the popularity of the two JamCoding clubs that we are running at Cheam Common Junior Academy, a half term club has also been set up.

🏆 Y5 Football Champions: On Monday afternoon, our Year 5 Boys' Football Team played in the final of the Sutton & Cheam Cup! They were up against St. Cecilia's, who have had an incredibly strong season. The match finished 1-1, which meant that the boys had to go to extra time to decide the winner. We scored two goals in extra time and won the game 3-1! Cheam Common were the winners! Jake, Rory and Roman were our goalscorers - with Mr Greaves calling Roman's goal the 'goal of the season!' A massive well done, boys! The team were presented with the trophy in today's Celebration Assembly.
🔢 Y6 Maths Quiz Champions: On Tuesday afternoon, eight of our Year 6 children took part in an online Maths Quiz. This round was the Area Heats, in which we were against over three hundred schools from South West England. Over thirty questions later and Team 1 emerged the winners of the entire competition! They will go through to the semi finals, which are being held on Tuesday 13th June!
🏏 Y6 Hardball Cricket: On Wednesday afternoon, our Y6 Boys' Cricket Team attended a friendly LEO tournament!
🏃♀️ Y6 Quad Kids Athletics Competition: On Wednesday afternoon, some of our Year 6 children attended the annual Sutton Schools' 'Quad Kids' Athletics tournament. They had to compete in four different sports: a sprint, longer run, jump and throwing contest. We finished third overall!
🔢 Count on Us Challenge: On Thursday morning, we hosted the local Count on Us Challenge Heats at Cheam Common Junior Academy. This is scheme run by the Mayor's Fund. Year 5 children have been attending Maths Club throughout the year to prepare for this competition. SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk

In this workshop, he will discuss neurodiversity and how to help children with special educational needs (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, ASD). Entry is free and all are welcome. Mr O'Regan is an ADHD and Neurodiversity Consultant and Trainer.
When: Tuesday 20th June at 8pm
Where: Friends Meeting House, 10 Cedar Road, Sutton, SM2 5DA

‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.'
We are also looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below. If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
