This week children at school and at home took part in Maths Week London. The children enjoyed the daily challenges, particularly the London Tubes and the code breaker.
Thank you to Mrs Dolling for her great live quizzes.
We hope you all enjoyed it!
Here are some of the things children in school have been up to this week...
Well done to those of you who have been hard at work completing your Distance Learning tasks from home this week.
Remember, you can send any work you do during and after these lessons into your year group mailboxes. Your teachers will love to see it!
Year 3 are enjoying their topic this half term. Check out these Adobe Spark videos all about the River Thames.

As part of the Year 3 Rivers Deep, Mountain High topic, Maxine (3B) decided to go kayaking with her family. Over 14km she could observe the flow of the water, how the shallow formed and how fast the current was on the river bend. She admired meanders of the river and eroded rock formation and even conquered a small waterfall! She liked the quiet water flow that never stops. On this adventure she learnt how to paddle and cooperate with her mum while navigating the kayak. Well done Maxine!
This week Year 4 used their kitchen skills to create a Breakfast Menu for passengers on the Titanic! We are so impressed with your confidence. Well done!

Following Aashi's great entry into the Young Geographer of the Year competition, we have now had a new entry from Laurence!
Good luck to you all!
There is still time to submit your entry. Deadline is 30th June 2020.

This year’s Young Geographer of the Year competition gives young people the chance to explore the potential that geography holds. Although we might all be confined to our homes, and doing #geographyathome, we are asking young people to explore their wider geographical horizons by providing entries to our Young Geographer of the Year competition and explore the geography of:
We are interested in entries that explore the human and physical geography of places that exist beyond a young person's window, be it locally or further afield. We want to know how young people’s lives are connected to and influenced by these places - be the connections physical, digital or emotional. We also want to understand how geographical processes in the physical and human worlds have created these places and might be changing them.
The Year 4 Digital leaders have been busy earning their screencastify badges this week. They had to watch some training videos on how screencastify works and complete a quiz testing their knowledge. Check out this demo screencastify from Ben who is guiding us around a digital house he has created! If you are interested in earning your own screencastify badge, follow this link to get started! We would love to hear from you if you have completed it!
More Cheam Common Postcards have been sent home over the past couple of weeks. These postcards are another way of us communicating with you to celebrate great work, ideas or attitudes that we have been impressed with during this time!

What better way to celebrate the last few weeks of the school year than by having our very own LEO Carnival!?
During this music themed week you will be able to experience the delights of Carnival.
We may not be able to take our Carnival out onto the streets of Cheam and Sutton but we can certainly try and recreate this in our schools and homes.
There will be singing, dancing, playing, mask making and plenty of other activities for you to enjoy so make sure you join in on 29th June for LEO Academy Trusts very own street party!
We’re delighted to be taking part in special online workshops with musicians from BBC Concert Orchestra as part of BBC's Ten Pieces Connecting the Dots project on 2nd July as part of LEO Music Week.

Take a look at next week's newsletter to see what we got up to!
Arts Week is the perfect way to express yourself and how you have been feeling! The definition of Art is: the product of imagination and creativity, particularly in a physical form. This means that there are many different forms of art: paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, collage, photography, theatre, poetry, novels, music, dance, film and much more.
We are going to focus on five strands of Art this week: imagery (such as paintings and photography), music, film and theatre, books and dance. At the start of the week, we will share all of the activities and links so that you can pick and choose which activities you would like to take part in and see which competitions you would like to enter.
For those children in school, you can our school dinner menu here for this half term. Remember you can choose which days you would like to have a school dinner.

Lost by Ele Fountain
Thirteen-year-old Lola lives in a nice house with her younger brother Amit and her father who owns a factory. One day their father heads out of town to see a supplier. When he doesn’t return, the children believe he has gotten cut off by the monsoons as everywhere is flooded and that he will be back the next day. Day after day their father doesn’t come back and their landlord now wants them out of their house. With no other relatives to help them the children head to the streets with just a backpack each and a little money. How is Lola going to cope in this vast city where she was once one of the rich kids and now she has nothing and is fast becoming a street rat?
Lost is a beautiful book filled with compassion, loyalty, family, love, and courage. Once I began, I just couldn’t put it down and read late into the night to finish it!
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:
http://www.cheamcommon.org.uk/website/supporting_the_curriculum/331291
Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
This week we are mixing science and art! What you will need this week is: cotton pads, coloured water (from food colouring or water colours), pipettes or paintbrush to drip the water from.
All you need to do is drip your coloured water onto the cotton pads and watch the magic happen! It sounds simple right, but there is alot of science happening in the background! What is the name of the process happening when the water lands on the pad? If I drip a second colour onto the cotton pad they do not mix, what happens instead?
Once your cotton pads are all dry and you have had some time to think about the science behind it, why not put all your cotton pads together to make one big collage or image! We would love to see them!
