I hope you all had a lovely half term break. As I am sure you are all aware, the Government have recently released their guidance with regards to the full opening of schools. All children will be returning to school on Monday 8th March. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back into the Cheam Common building! As always, the safety of pupils, family and staff will be our priority. As you can appreciate, there is a lot of planning and preparation involved. I will be writing to all parents/carers on Monday 1st March with further details regarding logistics of the full school return.
We have had another busy week as Distance Learning begins once again. We have been very impressed with all of the work and contributions made during our Live Lessons this week. Keep it up! One more week to go!
Before half term, Mr Ewing set up our very own Cheam Common Strava Page to help track how active we are whether that is through walking, cycling and running. It also helped prepare for the Cheam Common Lockdown Challenge. Check out the leaderboard so far...
There is still time for you to sign up and to make your distances count!
World Book Day will take place on Thursday 4th March and although this will be slightly different this year, we will still be spending the day celebrating a range of fantastic books and taking part in book related activities across the week.
Whether your child is at school or is learning from home, we would love them to dress up on this day as a book character of their choice. We would love to see their costumes, so please make sure you send them to your year group inboxes and tag us in on Twitter @CCJacademy
We look forward to seeing what the children, staff and parents come up with! Everyone can get involved!

This week's book is 'Roller Girl' by Victoria Jamieson.
Astrid has always done everything with her best friend Nicole. So when Astrid falls in love with roller derby and signs up for a summer camp, she's sure Nicole will be right by her side - until Nicole signs up for ballet camp instead, with Astrid's biggest rival.
So begins the hardest summer of Astrid's life, as she struggles to stay on her skates, to learn who she is without Nicole ...and to find out what it takes to be a strong, tough, awesome roller girl.
This spiky, winning graphic novel captures the bittersweetness of finding a new passion and saying goodbye to your former, more uncertain self. Roller Girl is a wonderful story about friendship, self-belief and seriously awesome girls. There are so many incredible things about this book: it is a wonderful tale that explores themes of what it means to grow up in pre-Teen years, how it feels to drift apart from friends and the fear of new situations – all handled with a light touch and sense of humour, through both text and illustration style.
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:
http://www.cheamcommon.org.uk/website/supporting_the_curriculum/331291
Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
This week, your challenge is to investigate the senses.
You will need: a family member, and a blindfold!
This challenge can be as easy or difficult as you like! All you need to do is put a blindfold on your family member (or yourself) and see how the other senses are heightened when sight is taken away!
You could test their senses by seeing if they can identify objects blindfolded by:
Tasting different foods
Giving them different objects to touch
Putting different flowers/perfumes/foods under their nose to smell
Make different noises around the room
We would love to know which senses are strongest when blindfolded! This challenge will be lots of fun so send us your pictures and results!
