Ria in 4S has been growing her hair to donate to The Little Princess Trust so it can be made into a wig for cancer patients.
On Sunday 18th April, Ria had her hair cut.
The length of hair she is donating to The Little Princess trust is an incredible 15.5 inches.
She has also managed to raised just over £1200 for the charity too.
If you would like to support Ria and The Little Princess Trust you can donate through her Just Giving Page here.
What an amazing thing to do Ria! We are all incredibly proud of you here at Cheam Common.
Following our Year 6 Science Quiz Team's success in the Area Heats before Easter, they were today presented with their winners' trophy and their own pin badge. They will take part in the National Finals in June.
We were also delighted to hear this week that both our Year 4 and Year 5 General Knowledge Quiz Teams are also through to the National Finals for being ones of the highest scoring runners up in their area heats. We look forward to seeing how they get on when they represent the school in June.
A great achievement. Well done!

Pupils from across Sutton have been working to make a tremendous positive impact on their communities throughout the challenges that 2020 and 2021 have brought. Together they have previously raised over £28,000 for local charities through various fundraising events. Many of the children wanted to thank their local hospitals, for their tireless work during the pandemic and were inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore.
On Friday 30th April, what would have been Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 101 birthday, all children at CCJ will take part in a sponsored physical activity involving the number 100! Pupils in Year 3 will try to complete 100 speed bounces, working in pairs. Year 4 will all attempt to complete a 100 skips and Year 5 are jumping 100m (in teams!!). Year 6 will be aiming to either walk or run 100 laps on the playground!
Money raised will go to a variety of local NHS charities that support health and wellbeing initiatives for the hardworking staff as well as funding vital equipment needed in both St Heliers hospital as well as at Epsom hospital. A just giving page has been set up and it would be great if you are able to support this event, even if it is a donation of £2 as an entrance fee. You can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cheam-common-junior-academy100challenge
Thank you for your support with all our events this year , I am sure the children will enjoy the activities and feel proud to follow in the footsteps of such a great role model.
For this week, children are encouraged to walk to school as many times as possible. This could mean walking from home or parking further away from the school and walking the rest of the way. Any child who walks to school everyday receives a badge.
Watch out for a special assembly and our extra special badge competition to run alongside Walk to School Week!
Please can we kindly remind our parents to be considerate when dropping off your children and collecting them at the end of the day. Please park further away from school and walk to the school gates. Please do not obstruct resident's driveways. We want to ensure our roads are safe for our children and the community.

Today, schools from across LEO took part in our very first spelling bee. After a preliminary round at the start of the week, 4 children from each year group competed in the finals where a fiercely battled competition took place. Children demonstrated their knowledge of spelling rules and patterns to spell an array of tricky words. Congratulations to all the children who took part, especially Year 4 who won the finals.
It has been great to get our extra curricular clubs back up and running again this week. The playground has been filled before and after school with clubs such as archery, cycling, basketball, cheerleading and hockey whilst our classrooms have been filled with clubs such as yoga, art and geography Globetrotters. There really is something for everyone.
Our very own Cheam Common Strava Page is up and running to help track how active we are whether that is through walking, cycling and running. Check out the leaderboard so far...

Happy Reading!
This week’s book is ‘The Land of Roar' by Jenny McLachlan from the Year 5 book list.
When Arthur and Rose were little, they were heroes in the Land of Roar, an imaginary world that they found by climbing through the folding bed in their grandad's attic. Roar was filled with things they loved - dragons, mermaids, ninja wizards and adventure - as well as things that scared them, including a very creepy scarecrow! Now the twins are eleven, Roar is just a memory. But when they help Grandad clean out the attic, Arthur is horrified as Grandad is pulled into the folding bed and vanishes. Is he playing a joke? Or is Roar . . . real?
A wonderfully enchanted fantasy adventure, full of imagination, humour and heart, this wonderful new children’s book echoes classic tales gone before, such as Peter Pan, Jumaji and The Neverending Story. Readers can delight in this beautifully illustrated children’s book as they turn page after page, bringing to life a fantasy world full of dragons, unicorns, mermaids and more. A wonderful new addition and a captivating read, ‘The Land of Roar’ is sure to delight both small and ‘big’ kids alike!
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
If you have spent any time observing seals at the zoo or in the wild, you may have seen the mammals swimming, walking, clapping, and even "barking" at one another. Now, scientists in Scotland have proved that with some vocal training, and the right incentive, the talented animals are also capable of mimicking the human language, accomplishing impressive tasks such as "singing" popular tunes like "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." The scientists in Scotland even hope to use similar training and teaching skills to help children and adults with speech difficulties in the future. Who knew we could learn so much from seals?!
Over to you!
Do you know of any other animals that can mimic or respond to speech? Are there other ways that animals communicate?
Don’t forget to present your findings to Miss Lane or Mr Iliffe!
