Before Christmas, our Active Citizens across CCJ set out to help members of the local community and those who may be feeling lonely at Christmas by writing letters to adults that have been isolated or alone during the lock down as a result of COVID-19! Parents and staff collected names of people who would benefit from a 'letter of cheer' and the children were extremely busy writing over 50 letters to people both locally and nationally. We have been delighted with the response and have received phone calls, emails cards and letters in response to the children's efforts. Well done to our Active Citizens for spreading some cheer. We hope we can continue our communication during this time.
Last week, Year 6 wrote some incredible diary entries and have now recorded themselves in the role of Torak from Wolf Brother using Flipgrid. We are so impressed with the vocabulary, expression and enthusiasm the children have shown. Well done!

This week, Year 3 have enjoyed recreating the story of The Iron Man using Toontastic to make their animation and story come to live. Check out some of the great creations so far! Fantastic expression too!
On Wednesday, children from across Year 3 and 4 joined in to take part in the live LEO Maths Quiz. Joined by over 500 children, players had to listen carefully and focus in order to be able to answer multiple choice questions quickly and accurately. Well done to everyone who took part; we hope you enjoyed it!
On Tuesday, we hosted our Parent Workshop to share ways you can help support your children during Distance Learning and answer questions. Thank you to everyone who joined and we hope you found it useful. If you weren't able to join, a recording of the workshop alongside the slides and a sheet of FAQs has been sent to all parents.
Maths Club is back for Year 4 and Year 5 starting next Wednesday. We have had over 80 children keen to join which is fantastic. This club will build towards three children representing Cheam Common in the Count on Us Primary Challenge which is a maths tournament for Year 4 and 5 pupils involving over 100 schools from across London. The tournament focuses on shape puzzles, number games and code breaking challenges to help develop confidence, problem solving skills and most importantly, enjoyment of maths.
The Big Garden Birdwatch is happening between 29th January and 31st January. Why not spend an hour counting the birds you see in your garden, from your balcony or in you local park, then complete a form with the information. Click here to visit the website.
Next week, our online LEO Music Clubs return. A letter with details and the meet code went home today.
KS2 Music Club - Wednesdays at 3.30pm
KS2 Young Voices Choir - Thursdays at 3.30pm
We have been so impressed with all of the children joining their daily Google Meets with their teachers and taking part in the live lessons. Children have been busy choosing tasks from their choice boards and we have seen some excellent science, art and PE taking place this week. Keep it up!

Thunderstruck by Ali Sparkes
Surviving a lightning strike makes Theo and Alisha see life differently. It also makes them notice Doug and Lizzie. Struck by lightning under that same tree on the common in 1975, the two teenagers have been hanging out there ever since. Doug and Lizzie are funny, clever, brave - and quite happy about making friends with a pair of ten-year-olds. OK, fair point, they are dead, and Doug's trousers are worryingly flared. But you can't have everything. However, something sinister is going on at school - although only Theo and Alisha seem to be able to see it. What can it mean when ragged faceless entities keep staring in through the windows? Not all ghosts are friendly like Doug and Lizzie . . . but are these phantoms really the harbingers of doom for all the kids at Beechwood Junior?
