Launch of our new Pupil Wellbeing Strategy - HAPPY.
Monday 22nd - Friday 26th March
In preparation for the launch next week, children across the Trust had an introduction today to the new pupil wellbeing strategy- HAPPY.
We have an engaging week planned next week where we aim to introduce the children to the strategy and begin to help them understand where it has come from and why it is so very important.
Please find a link here to a document for parents/ carers to help explain our rationale behind this approach.
Following the launch next week, we will be evolving our new pupil wellbeing site, where you will find videos and photos that help bring the strategy to life. We look forward to sharing this with you soon.

Happy Reading!
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
This week’s book is ‘The Dragon in the Library' by Louie Stowell from the Year 4 book list.
Kit cannot stand reading. She'd much rather be outside, playing games and getting muddy, than stuck inside a library with a book. The unlikeliest of heroes, Kit can’t imagine a worse place to spend the summer holiday. Instead Kit would rather hang around with a bunch of dead people at the graveyard then go to a place where she is most likely to ‘die of boredom.’ Sadly, Kit’s plans are thwarted by her two best friends Josh and Alita who are determined to get their hands on the latest Danny Fandango book and drag her along. And it’s a good job that they are so insistent because Kit makes an outstanding discovery about herself and the library, that will change her life forever.
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
MAD ABOUT MATHS
Science Spotted
Experiment Time- Layers of Liquids!
Did you know that some liquids mix and some do not? This is a very cool way to learn about density!
You will need:
Tall clear drinking glass
A large spoon
Water
Oil, about 1 cup(vegetable works great)
Syrup (Karo works great)
Optional: Food Colouring
Paper Towels
What to do:
The great thing about this experiment is that you can mix the liquids in any order, but to begin with, this is our suggestion.
Fill the glass about half way with regular water.
Add a drop of food colouring, if you have some handy. Be careful not to add too much or you might not be able to see what is taking place.
Slowly pour some of the syrup into the water and observe what happens. Does it sink or float?
Slowly add some of the oil. It is a good idea to hold the spoon just above the water level, touching the side of the glass, then slowly pour the oil onto the spoon. Does the oil sink or float?
How does it work?
Each of these liquids have different densities (the amount of molecules per square inch). The denser liquids have more molecules, this causes them to sink to the bottom. The less dense liquids float.
Further experiments:
What happens if you add the food colouring last? What happens if you switch the order or liquids? What happens if you do this in a closed container (water bottle), put the lid on and shake it up? It looks like you have some serious experimenting to do!
SPICED EASTER BISCUITS
Ingredients to make 25 biscuits:
1 medium egg
100g softened butter
75g caster sugar
200g plain flour
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
50g currants
5 teaspoons milk
Extra sugar
Method:
Heat oven to 200 degrees or gas mark 6
Beat the butter and sugar until creamy
Add in the egg yolk and mix well. Keep the egg white for later
Sieve in the flour
Add the spices, currants and milk
Mix well together until you can bring the mixture together with your hands to form a dough
Roll out the dough until ¾ inch thick
Using a pretty cutter or an animal shaped cutter, cut out biscuits and place on a greased baking
sheet.
Use up all the dough and brush the tops of the biscuits with egg white and sprinkle over the extra
sugar. Or you can ice and decorate as below.
Bake for 12 -15 minutes until golden.
