Cheam Common Junior Academy: Kingsmead Avenue, Worcester Park, KT4 8UT
Email: ccjoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk http://www.cheamcommon.org.uk/
On Friday morning, our Year 6 children had a celebratory trip to Cuddington Park to celebrate reaching the end of SATs week. We are so proud of the attitudes they have shown throughout the year so far and wanted to give them time to celebrate. SATs results are not released until July.
Although SATs are over, our Year 6 children have a busy few months ahead of them. They will still be completing writing lessons, taking more time to explore the wider curriculum, prepare for their summer production of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', organise their Fiver Challenge stalls and, not forgetting, travelling to the Isle of Wight in the next few weeks!
Well done to the Year 6 children, as well as the members of staff who have worked equally hard this year.
We would like to reiterate the importance of ensuring that our families are being considerate of our neighbours when dropping off or picking up children from our school site.
If driving, please ensure you continue to observe the speed limits and parking restrictions in place within the school road and surrounding streets.
It is also important to note that residents have access to their homes at all times of the day. Therefore, they are allowed to drive down Kingsmead Avenue, even during the restricted time slots. Do not obstruct our neighbours' driveways during drop off and collection of your child.
While on the school grounds, please ensure that all children are supervised:
Children are not allowed to climb on the boundary walls within the playground.
Children are not permitted on the playground equipment during drop off and collection times
Children should not ride scooters or bikes on the playground.
Thank you for continuing to keep our children safe and for respecting our neighbours.
As the weather is warming up, please ensure that children have sunhats and a water bottle in school. Please ensure that children have applied sun cream in the morning.
Throughout the rest of the term, we will be inviting many children to have a slot on our radio station.
Every week, four Green Ticket winners are chosen to take part in Friday's session.
🎵 Amazon Music 🎵
Pupils across the school started by requesting the songs they would like to be part of the radio station. If any parents would like to donate to our Amazon fund to purchase music for the radio then please gift any amount you can on an Amazon E-Gift Card to ccjradio@leoacademytrust.co.uk. We would be very grateful.
Thank you to the families who brought in donations for DONS Local Action Group today. It is incredible to see such empathy being demonstrated and modelled to our children.
We are hoping to organise food bank donations dropoffs weekly in the summer term. However, this would require a few helpful volunteers to collect and organise these donations.
If you are interested in giving up a little time and would like us to put you in touch with these organisers, please complete this short Google Form.
Thank you in advance!
Year 4: High Ashurst Parent Meeting
Year 5: Devon Parent Meeting
Year 6: Isle of Wight Parent Meeting
We were so impressed to hear that Thea's mum (Year 6) is walking 100 miles throughout May in order to raise money for Cancer Research.
If you would like to donate to this fantastic cause, you can do so here!
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
🏓 Sutton Swimming Gala: Last Friday evening, our swimming team took part in the Sutton Borough Swimming Gala at Westcroft Leisure Centre. SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
Please click here to access the Local Authority's Ambitious for SEND parent newsletter to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area. To receive these newsletters (three produced each year) please subscribe to the local area Ambitious for SEND newsletter. It is a great way to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area.
