As we come to the end of a very different academic year, I would like to thank you all for your continued support throughout this year and particularly over the past few months. The children have been a credit to you all and to the school; adapting to distance learning and adjusting to new routines at home and in school.
We are busy preparing for the return of all pupils to school on Thursday 3rd September. More information will be emailed to all families during the week of 24th August.
As well as working to ensure school is as safe as possible for everyone, staff across the Cheam and Worcester Park hub, have been planning lessons and activities that focus on children’s mental wellbeing as well as to identify their individual learning needs to best support their academic progress.
We also say a special goodbye to our Year 6 children as they embark on the next stage of their education. We wish you all the best for the future. A very memorable end to Cheam Common but we hope you have enjoyed all of the celebrations we have been able to have.
The year group inboxes will not be monitored over the summer, if you wish to contact the school, please do this via the school office.
We can't wait to see you all again in September!
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
Miss Gunner

Doodle little and often to earn rewards!
We can’t wait to see you all taking part in the DoodleMaths Summer Challenge. Why not sign up today?
The goal of the Challenge is to earn 600 stars (for children born after 31/08/13) or 750 stars and a 14-day streak. This target has been carefully chosen to provide children with a challenging and rewarding experience, while also being achievable in 10 minutes a day – leaving plenty of time to enjoy the summer!
By rewarding children for Doodling ‘little and often’, the Challenge encourages children to develop healthy learning habits which can be used outside of DoodleMaths in their education as a whole.
Upon completion of the Challenge, children will receive an exclusive collectable pin badge and certificate free of charge to celebrate their hard work in the post. Good luck!
Week Commencing 13th July
For our Celebration themed week, we have been reflecting on the year and celebrating all that we have achieved. We have also looked ahead to next academic year and thought about what we’d all like to achieve.
Here are some of the things children in school have been up to this week...
We really enjoyed using another fantastic Draw with Rob video to create our LEO lion last week. We used the Parsley the Lion video by Rob Biddulph to inspire our very own versions in Year Six. We hope you like them.
Well done to those of you who have been hard at work completing your Distance Learning tasks from home this week.
Remember, you can send any work you do during and after these lessons into your year group mailboxes. Your teachers will love to see it!
More Cheam Common Postcards have been sent home over the past couple of weeks. These postcards are another way of us communicating with you to celebrate great work, ideas or attitudes that we have been impressed with during this time!
We hope they will put a smile on everyone's faces!
Who will be next to receive one?

The House of One Hundred Clocks by A. M. Howell
Helena and her parrot, Orbit, are swept off to Cambridge when her father is appointed clock-winder to one of the wealthiest men in England. However, both Helena and her father discover a rather startling rule. One rule which must never be broken: the clocks must never stop.
Suddenly, Helena discovers the house of one hundred clocks holds many mysteries; a ghostly figure who wanders the halls, strange notes and disappearing winding keys. Can she work out its secrets before time runs out?
Howel’s magnificent and masterful story of a house full of clocks sparkles with wit and suspense. Set in beautiful Cambridge, The House of One Hundred Clocks oozes atmosphere and serves up a delicious enigma with a gothic twist. Such a warming tale is a joy to read, with plenty of mystery and intrigue to keep you turning page after page!
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Do you have lots of dirty, old coins lying around your house? Have you been saving up pennies for a holiday and they have gone all rusty? This challenge is a way for you to make all of your copper coins look brand new!
You will need some copper coins (1p & 2p), lemon juice, a cup and some paper towels.
It is as simple as putting your pennies in the cup and covering them with lemon juice. Leave them for about 5 minutes, then wipe them off with a paper towel and see the magic happen!
Try the same thing with vinegar. Does it work the same or better? If you put marker on one of the coins does it come off? Does it also work on silver coins? Let us know what you find out and show us those gleaming coins!
