Cheam Common Junior Academy: Kingsmead Avenue, Worcester Park, KT4 8UT
Email: ccjoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk http://www.cheamcommon.org.uk/
On Monday, children from CCJ will be having their individual school photos taken. Please ensure that your child is in full school uniform.
Children who have siblings at Cheam Common Infants can have their joint photographs taken between 8-8:45am. Please queue at the gate outside the CCJ hall if you wish for these photographs to be taken. As ever, we expect this to be popular so would recommend turning up early to avoid queuing for too long. As the hall is in use, Breakfast Club will be based in the Green Hut for this morning; the entrance is the gate between CCJ and CCI.
If your child's class has PE on this day, PE kit should be brought into school; they will have the opportunity to change before their PE lesson.
Those who are attending Year 6 Swimming Boosters can have their photos taken before their swimming session; please ensure that they are at school on time in order for this to happen.
We are so proud to announce that we have been awarded the School Games Platinum Mark: the highest award available. This is down to the hard work completed by Mr Greaves and his team, our staff, sports leaders and all of our children. We cannot wait to receive our official certificate later this term.
A massive thank you to Nicholas and Sons Tree Surgeons who have provided our Forest School area with new logs for our fire circle. We would not be able to give our children these opportunities without the help of our local community.
On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd September, there will be roadworks taking place on Dalmeny Road (between Cheam Common Road and Kingsmead Avenue). The work is expected to be taking place between 8:45am and 3pm, though this may continue until 5pm. The road between the two junctions will be closed during these hours. This is likely to affect picking your child up from CCJ or CCI on this date.
The Kingsmead Avenue gate for Cheam Common Infants Academy will now be closing at 8:40am every morning.
There are still spaces left in our Orchestra Club. Orchestra Club is open to any musicians who have been playing their instrument for over a year or have achieved Grade 1 (or above) in their chosen instrument. If you would like your child to attend Orchestra, please complete this short form. There is a charge of £50/term for this club.
All children in Sutton will automatically qualify for Universal Free School Meals, but this does not mean automatic qualification for benefit-related Free School Meals.
It is vitally important that you still complete your school or borough’s registration form in case your child is eligible for extra funding for their school from the Government, worth £1,300 per year. That’s extra money to spend on enrichment activities, teacher development, and targeted support for the children that need it most. Depending on how schemes operate in your borough, it may also entitle you to other benefits like food vouchers during the holidays. Please register for Pupil Premium here.
If you are interested in signing your club up to any of the clubs that run at Cheam Common Juniors, run by external companies, please see the below information:
🪕🎹 Music lessons: Trombone, Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, Trombone 🎸🎺
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
This week, our classes have been busy appointing children in the class with specific roles and responsibilities.

💥 Clubs start: This week we welcomed the return of the many clubs that we run here at Cheam Common. From Chess to Cheerleading, and Handball to Hockey, we are so proud of the over forty clubs that are run here.
🪘 Year 3 Drumming: On Tuesday afternoon, Year 3 had their first ever drumming session with our teacher Kostas. They are looking forward to putting on some performances to parents throughout the year.
🏘 Year 3 Hamptons Trip: On Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, our Year 3 classes went on their first local trip of the year. They walked down Worcester Park High Street to the Hamptons estate in order to see different types of buildings and how they were used.
⚽ Year 6 Girls' Football: Our Girls' Football Team attended their first friendly tournament against fellow LEO schools. The girls won one game and lost the other. Goals were scored by Alma and Isabelle. Well done, girls!
💻 Be Internet Awesome Assembly: On Thursday morning, every class joined in with the Be Internet Legends assembly, run by Google For Education. This virtual assembly taught children top tips for how to remain safe online, how to deal with something that worries them and where to go for help. A few of our classes even got shoutouts!
Lucas' Trip to the Oval
Over the summer holidays, Lucas was invited to hand over the match ball to the umpires before the Oval Invincibles vs. London Spirit's 'The Hundred' cricket game. He was extremely excited about the experience as it was being broadcasted on live TV. Well done, Lucas!
Aadya's achievements
Over the summer, Aadya achieved a Distinction in Verse and Prose, as well as Public Speaking - Grade 1. She also participated in the 'Dance the Dream' experience at Disneyland Paris, with her dance group, Stagecoach.

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk

‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.'
We are also looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below. If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
