Friday 7th March
We are looking forward to our annual World Book Day celebrations in which all children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Be as creative and inventive as you would like. A reminder that these costumes don't need to be expensive or time-consuming. Even a decorated white T-shirt with book-related drawings works superbly!
Friday 7th March
We are excited to announce the ‘Book in a Jar’ competition! This competition is a great way to show your love of books and creativity in conjunction with World Book Day.
To enter, simply choose a book that you love and create a representation of it in a jar. You can use any materials you like, such as paper, fabric, paint, or even clay. Be as creative as you can!
Remember - this competition is completely optional!
All entries must be submitted to 6S by Friday 7th March. The winners will be announced in the Celebration Assembly on Friday 14th March . The winning entries will also be displayed in the library for all to see.
Here are some of 2023's winners from CCJ!
Friday 21st March
This year Red Nose Day is on Friday 21st March and, as usual, the School Council would like to raise some money for this great cause as well as the children having lots of fun!
Firstly, we will be selling red noses in school for £2.00 (the price set by the charity) from Monday 10th March. Our School Council members will be going round to each class from Monday and the children will be able to buy them using cash. We are asking that the children take the red noses home, these are not to be worn in school until Friday 21st March. If children buy red noses from Sainsbury’s, these also need to stay at home until Friday 21st March 2025.
Secondly, as this year’s theme is ‘Do Something Funny For Money’, we are asking all children to come to school with ‘Crazy Hair’. We are asking for a donation, with the suggested amount being £1, which will be collected at the gate as the children come into school. Please see below some examples of ‘crazy hair’ ideas…
We hope that the children enjoy the day and hopefully, we as a school, can raise some money for Comic Relief. As always, thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing your crazy hairstyles!

Monday 30th June
We are excited to announce the date of our second ever CCJ Careers Fair on Monday 30th June (1-3pm).
As we did last year, we would like to invite parents to partake in this Careers Fair. If you would be willing to give up your afternoon to come in and speak to classes about your career, please complete this Google Form.
We recognise that this date is far in advance. If your plans change, please do not worry. This is simply a register of interest.
As part of our partnership with St Helier's Hospital, some of our staff have volunteered to abseil down the hospital on Friday 25th April.
Miss Davies, Miss Mills, Miss Brooks, Mr Iliffe, Miss Shallcross, Mr Francis, Miss Bishop, Miss Fox and Mr Strange are taking part in this challenge.
If you would like to donate to their joint page, you can do so here. Alternatively, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and donate to a specific member of staff!
You can find out about the artists that we study at Cheam Common Junior Academy here. We are excited to hold our Arts Showcase on Monday afternoon, where children will view one another's artwork from the Autumn Term.
We are delighted to announce that we have received the Artsmark Gold Award. A massive well done to Miss Maclean, our staff and children for this impressive achievement!
We are proud to announce that we have managed to reduce our carbon footprint by 7% in the last year.
Year 5 have been taking part in the Zero Carbon Schools Project over the last few months and have been working hard to calculate this footprint. We are amongst the first schools in the country to go through this process. We hope to make improvements to this figure year-on-year.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Check out what our children have been up to this week at Cheam Common Junior Academy!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Thank you Elliot (Year 3) for your birthday book!
We have loved receiving some fantastic homework this term!
Remember: Each year group's homework matrix can be found in the section below. Completing these tasks is optional but can really help to enrich the children's learning and understanding of these topics.
Look through these images to see some fantastic step-by-step guides of how to make volcanoes!

Hi! I'm Clara, I'm 10 years old and I need your help to help others: I'm taking part in Swimathon 2025 and on the 29th of March I'm swimming 5km to raise money for Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie & Swimathon Foundation, who do great work for a cause that's very close to my heart. If you can, please donate to my fundraising project on GivenGain and share! Thank you.
During half term, Scarlett and Izzy took part in the Gang Show, hosted at Sutton Grammar. After weeks of rehearsals, the shows were incredible and sold out most nights. What an incredible achievement!
