As we come to the end of the first half term of 2021, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how proud we are of all of the children since we have moved to distance learning once again. They never fail to impress us. Thank you to our Parents/Carers for supporting the children with their learning; we know this is no easy task! The children have produced some fantastic work, learnt lots of new things and have experienced a vast amount of different lessons and opportunities remotely.
We hope you all have a lovely and well deserved half term break!
Miss Gunner

Whether your child is at school or is learning from home, we would love them to dress up on this day as a book character of their choice. We would love to see their costumes, so please make sure you send them to your year group inboxes and tag us in on Twitter @CCJacademy
We look forward to seeing what the children, staff and parents come up with! Everyone can get involved!

Join Storyteller, Andy Copps, for a virtual workshop of storytelling and puppetry. Andy is a very well known local storyteller who has worked with our children before and we are really pleased to welcome him back for some half term fun!
The on-line session will involve lots of interactive fun and singing. Kids are invited to bring along their own puppet or soft toy and Andy will help them use their imagination to bring their toys to life. He'll also explore shadow storytelling and puppetry with the kids.
We are asking for a £3 minimum donation per household. We do have free places available for those who can't afford it - just email us at sutton@nas.org.uk

We loved seeing how you all 'expressed yourself' during Children's Mental Health Week. As we are all aware mental health issues are being exacerbated by the current frustrations. The DfE have put together a big list of sources of support to help support mental well being during this time. Click on the image to access them.
This week's book is ‘The Night Bus Hero' by Onjali Q. Raúf and is from the Year 6 Book List.
Told from the perspective of a bully, The Night Bus Hero explores themes of bullying and homelessness, while celebrating kindness, friendship and the potential everyone has to change for the good.
Hector has been getting into trouble for as long as he can remember. Always causing chaos and faced with detention, most people perceive Hector as an ‘absolute menace’, ‘a lost cause’ or worse, compare him to his ‘amazing’ sister. However it is here, in detention, that Hector is able to come up with an array of ‘brilliant’ ideas to pass the time away. Due to his terrible behaviour, most people find it hard to believe anything Hector says, especially after his prank on an old man in the park went wrong. However, Hector is out to prove everyone wrong: prove that he can be a hero! Filled with heart, humour and exciting, The Night Bus Hero will fill you with hope and compassion.
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
Experiment time- Sun-dial!
Straight stick about two feet long
small rocks or small seashells
a watch
chalk (optional)
Sand (optional)
Bucket (optional)
Find a sunny spot and push the stick vertically straight into the grass or earth. If your backyard doesn’t have any grass or earth, fill a small bucket with sand and place your stick into the bucket.
Start in the morning when the sun is up. At 7:00 am use a small rock or seashell to mark where the shadow of your stick falls. Come back at 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, and so on until there is no more daylight in the day. You may want to mark your pebbles with the time they were placed using chalk.
By the end of the day your sundial will be complete.
The sun’s light will make your long stick cast a shadow. The shadow will change it’s angle depending how the sun’s light is hitting the stick because our earth is constantly rotating and revolving around the sun.
Measure how long the shadow that is casted by the stick is. Measure it in winter and spring. Are the measurements different? Which season has the longer shadow?
Make a second sun dial after we reset our clocks each year. How are the two sundials similar? How are they different?
