Road Safety Week: Kingsmead Avenue
Please could parents and carers be reminded that we have a School Streets initiative in place on Kingsmead Avenue in the mornings and afternoons. This is to ensure that our children and their families can enter and exit the school in a safe manner. If you are officially exempt from this initiative and have permission to use the road during these times, please be considerate of any pedestrians and cyclists.
Next week is Road Safety Week, with the theme this year being 'Safe Roads for All'. Please find more information here. Reasons why road safety is important for schools are listed below:
Road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young people worldwide.
Every day, more than 6 children are killed or seriously injured on roads in the UK.
Pollution from traffic causes respiratory illnesses and other diseases.
Active travel (such as walking and cycling) is good for our health and for the planet.
Road accidents cost the UK economy approximately £36 million every year.
Next week, please ensure that you are arriving at and leaving school in a safe and considerate manner. Thank you!
Travel Ambassador Competition
As part of the campaign, the Junior Travel Ambassadors are running a competition to promote and raise awareness of travelling to school safely.
Have you got a competitive side? Have you heard about Road Safety Week? Get involved now! The competition is to create a comic strip to strengthen road safety messages in a creative and educational way. A certificate and a lucky prize will be awarded to each year group! See your Travel Ambassadors for further details.
Odd Socks Day
On Monday 14th November, we will be celebrating and taking part in Odd Socks Day! We are looking forward to seeing all of your colourful socks next week as 'Odd Socks Day' marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week.
Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun, however the main focus is to raise awareness of Anti Bullying Week and it is an opportunity to encourage people and children to express themselves whilst expressing their individuality and what makes us all unique!
There is no pressure to wear the latest fashion or to buy expensive costumes. All you have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school on Monday 14th November!
Children In Need
On Friday 18th November, we are celebrating Children in Need! Your child can wear MUFTI if they’d like and are encouraged to wear clothes that are yellow, colourful, spotty or Pudsey-themed - or even their pyjamas if you’d like! If you would like to donate then one option is to support our Just Giving Page to support this charity. We would encourage a donation of £1 per child, however this is not required.
Additionally, there will be a cake sale at 3pm on Friday 18th November. Some members of our School Council will be selling cakes outside on the playground and all donations will go to Children in Need. If you would like to bake or donate a cake/baked item to the stall, please deliver these to the office or 6C on Friday morning.
Year 3 Drumming Showcase
As you are aware, the Year 3 children have been busy practising their drumming skills this
term. The children have been working very hard to create a drumming piece to perform to you all. We would like to invite you to come to a year group drumming performance. At this time, you will be able to see your child’s class, and the rest of the classes in the year, perform the drumming piece they have been working so hard on.
The performance will take place in the hall on Tuesday 29th November. It will commence at 2.15pm. You will be able to come in from 2.00pm to ensure we have a prompt start. The performance will last for approximately 45 minutes. If you are unable to attend, please do not worry, we will also film the performances and share them with you.
Seeking Tree Surgeons! Help our Forest School
The logs that we have used as stools in our Forest School area are slowly starting to rot and are coming to the end of their lives. We are asking parents if they know any tree surgeons who could donate some new logs to our school? We are looking for approximately 20 logs to use as stools but every little helps. If you could help, please contact the office.
Final Call: Children's Hospital Pyjamas Campaign!
As we quickly approach the festive season, we have taken on board a new Christmas fundraiser. Our chosen charity for the festive season is ‘Children’s Hospital Pyjamas’. This amazing charity donates brand new pairs of pyjamas to poorly children in hospital over the Christmas period.
We aim to also donate to:
St Helier Hospital (Sutton)
The Royal Marsden Hospital (Sutton)
St George’s Hospital (Tooting)
Kingston Hospital (Kingston Upon Thames)
If you would like to help us support this charity, we are asking for either donations of brand new pyjamas or money that will go towards buying new pyjamas. To confirm, we are only able to accept BRAND NEW pyjamas due to the vulnerability of the children who will be receiving the pyjamas. Unfortunately, second hand pyjamas are not accepted. The pyjamas can be any size ranging from baby sizes - 10 years old. Alternatively, money donations are also welcomed and will be used to purchase new pyjamas to go towards our donations.
The deadline for all donations is Monday 14th November. Please hand pyjamas into the school office or Miss Beagle’s classroom, 4CB. Cash donations will be accepted at the gate each morning.
We hope that we can count on your generosity on this occasion as we are pleased that we are able to support a local charity, as well as our local hospitals.

The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
