As we reach the final week of this half term and the end of of a very strange year, there are still lots of things for the children to enjoy next week:
WC Monday 13th July - LEO Celebration Week
Monday 13th July - Introducing Sports' Day Assembly
Tuesday 14th July - Sports' Personality of the Year Awards
Tuesday 14th July/Wednesday 15th July - GoogleMeet Celebration with teachers
Wednesday 15th July - CCJ Sports' Day
Thursday 16th July - Year 6 Leavers' Celebrations
Friday 17th July - Summer Term Merit Assembly
Friday 17th July - Last day of Summer Term
As we get to closer to the end of the school year and now further guidance has been released from the Government regarding the wider opening of schools from September, we now look to organising the classrooms to cater for full class sizes across the school and put measures in place for all children to return safely.
In order for us to prepare for this, school will finish at the following times on Friday 17th July:
Year 6 - 1:00pm
Key Worker Groups - 1:15pm
There will be no After School Club on this day.
More information will be sent out soon regarding the arrangements for children returning in September.
This week, all of our classes met their teacher for next year via GoogleMeet. The children found out more about the curriculum for next year, trips and enjoyed asking questions and taking part in Kahoot quizzes. We also welcomed our Year 2 children who found out all of the things they have to look forward to at Cheam Common. We are looking forward to September!
Our GoogleMeets next week will be a celebration of the year and the great achievements children have made.
We also held our Year 3 induction evening virtually to share more information about Cheam Common with parents. You can watch it here.
Many families are entitled to free school meals but are not claiming this support.
Free school meals support in the form of supermarket vouchers or food parcels and will be provided over the summer holidays for all children who are registered for free school meals.

Congratulations to Kian on completing a 35 mile bike ride to raise money for charity. What a great achievement! We have been enjoying watching his progress with riding since lockdown - he has certainly been busy!
Click here to watch a video from our current Sports' Leaders explaining their role and what children in Year 4 and 5 need to do if they would like to be a Sports' Leader next year.
If you are interested in becoming a Sports' Leader, either write a letter or record a video explaining why you would like the role and how you would be suitable to help Mr Ewing next year. Send these to your year group email address. We look forward to working with this leadership group next year!
Our Sports Personality of the Year Awards are taking place on Tuesday 14th July. Great nominations for a variety of sporting achievements. Good luck to you all! We will share the assembly with you all on Tuesday.
Doodle little and often to earn rewards!
We can’t wait to see you all taking part in the DoodleMaths Summer Challenge. Why not sign up today?
The goal of the Challenge is to earn 600 stars (for children born after 31/08/13) or 750 stars and a 14-day streak. This target has been carefully chosen to provide children with a challenging and rewarding experience, while also being achievable in 10 minutes a day – leaving plenty of time to enjoy the summer!
By rewarding children for Doodling ‘little and often’, the Challenge encourages children to develop healthy learning habits which can be used outside of DoodleMaths in their education as a whole.
Upon completion of the Challenge, children will receive an exclusive collectable pin badge and certificate free of charge to celebrate their hard work in the post. Good luck!
Week Commencing 6th July
Children at both home and school have enjoyed Arts Week. The definition of Art is: the product of imagination and creativity, particularly in a physical form. This means that there are many different forms of art: paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, collage, photography, theatre, poetry, novels, music, dance, film and much more.
Children particularly enjoyed art and recreating the dance from Matilda, the musical!
We have enjoyed working with the wonderful author Tom Palmer this week. Children have enjoyed planning and writing their ghost stories this week.
To find out more about Tom, visit his website. https://tompalmer.co.uk/about-tom/

The Infinite by Patience Agbabi
Leaplings, children born on the 29th of February, are very rare. Rarer still are Leaplings with The Gift - the ability to leap through time. Elle Bibi-Imbele Ifie has The Gift, but she's never used it. Until now. On her twelfth birthday, Elle and her best friend Big Ben travel to the Time Squad Centre in 2048. Elle has received a mysterious warning from the future. Other Leaplings are disappearing in time - and not everyone at the centre can be trusted. Soon Elle's adventure becomes more than a race through time. It's a race against time. She must fight to save the world as she knows it - before it ceases to exist...
Brilliantly fresh, funny and original, this delightful and energetic adventure is a smart and well-written adventure. Full of lovable characters that are unlike any you would have read before, The Infinite is a breath of fresh air to read!
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
Since we are now in the height of summer, your task this week is to make your own sundial! Here’s what you need to do!
1. Find a spot in your garden or in an outdoor space where you can push a stick into the ground. It must be standing up right and you must get adult permission.
2. It is best to start this at 7 in the morning when the sun comes up and then return each hour and mark where the shadow of your stick is with a pebble or a shell.
3. By the end of the day your sundial will be complete!
Can you work out why the shadow of the stick moves throughout the day? Would it be the same in winter? Let us know how you get on!
