Welcome to our weekly newsletter!

What has been happening this week?

LEO Carnival

What better way to celebrate the last few weeks of the school year than by having our very own LEO Carnival!

This week is music week and the children have been able to experience the delights of Carnival. We may not be able to take our Carnival out onto the streets of Cheam and Sutton but we have tried to recreate this in our schools and homes. There has been singing, dancing, playing, mask making and plenty of other activities.

Music Workshop

On Thursday the Year 1 children took part in a BBC music workshop. They really enjoyed it!

Upcoming Events

Big Outdoor Art Challenge

The #BigOutdoorArtChallenge is taking place during Children’s Art Week from 6 – 12 July and has been designed to encourage pupils to get creative and active, improving their health and wellbeing whilst having fun.

Between Monday 6 and Sunday 12 July get outside, get creative and upload your photo(s) to Instagram with the hashtag #BigOutdoorArtChallenge.

If you are creating the artwork at school, a member of staff can upload the image. If you are taking part at home, parents can upload the image or you can email your photograph to your teacher to upload.

If you don’t have access to Instagram you can email it to us, by clicking “here” and we will post it on your behalf.

The challenge is free to take part in and is a brilliant way of uniting children at school and those still learning at home in a single challenge.

Remember to include the following information when posting your photos on Instagram:

School name

Town/city

Year group of the child(ren) taking part

Hashtag: #BigOutdoorArtChallenge – if you don’t include this, we won’t be able to find it

Share the Challenge

Help inspire children across the UK to get outside and get creative. The more children that participate, the more inspiring and motivating artwork the children are exposed to.

The Judging

Environmental artist James Brunt will help us select winners in each of the following age categories, as well as choosing an overall winner:

Early Years

Year Groups 1-3

All winners will receive a certificate and photographs of their artwork will be featured on The Children’s Challenge and Council for Learning Outside the Classroom websites. There will be a special prize for the school of the overall winner. Good luck!

Arts Week

Arts Week is the perfect way to express yourself and how you have been feeling! The definition of Art is: the product of imagination and creativity, particularly in a physical form. This means that there are many different forms of art: paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, collage, photography, theatre, poetry, novels, music, dance, film and much more.

We are going to focus on five strands of Art this week: imagery (such as paintings and photography), music, film and theatre, books and dance. At the start of the week, we will share all of the activities and links so that you can pick and choose which activities you would like to take part in and see which competitions you would like to enter.

We are very lucky because we are going to work with an amazing author and illustrator. We have an amazing selection of resources and activities for you to try at home! Pirates, Wizards, Astronauts and more! 'What Can We Be?' is a delightfully playful daddy and daughter story.

Information and Resources

Are You Joining Us In Reception?

Calling old friends and new!

We would love to see your smiling faces before September.

Can you take a photo of yourself in your brand new, smart school uniform?

If you’re not ready to wear it yet, maybe you could dress a favourite teddy or doll ready for school or point to your clothes waiting nicely on a hanger. Or you might just want to show us your shiny new school shoes?

Send your happy photos to Mrs Murray at cciynhomelearning@leoacademytrust.co.uk

Then we can create a wonderful happy display for your new class and you can look for yourself with your family on your very first day!

We can’t wait to see you looking so very proud and grown up.

Supporting our local hospice

Calling all commuters!

If you are working from home and are no longer able to stop at a coffee shop before your commute, please consider donating the money you would normally spend on your favourite drink to your local hospice.

One cuppa is just £3.40 and could make all the difference to us in this uncertain time.

We expect that our income may drop by around £1.5m over the coming year due to COVID-19. We are a community charity and serve the people across the boroughs of Merton and Sutton providing expert and compassionate end-of-life palliative care and intend to be here for them in the future. In order to do that, we need your help.

If you are in a position to donate a week's worth of your favourite cuppa, or even a month's worth, you could help us continue to be here for our community long after we overcome this period of crisis.

A month's worth of donating your commuter cuppa will raise £68, which could pay for an hour of nursing care in the last weeks of someone’s life.

Please help today by clicking donate and turn your coffee passion into community compassion.

School Nursing Team Update

The school nursing team have been asked to offer support to families via the schools as some families may be experiencing anxiety at this time or may have other concerns they would like support with. We will offer telephone appointments, online appointments and face to face in a clinic space if it is felt appropriate with all the necessary precautions and risk assessments.

Please can you put this information out via parent mail or news letter.

Parents can contact us on 0208 770 5409 or email schoolnursing@sutton.gov.uk
