Welcome to our weekly newsletter!

We have had a great first term in these unprecedented times. The children settled well and have adapted to the new routines. The team and children have worked so hard and it has been lovely to have everyone back under the same roof. I would like to thank you all for all your support and being patient with us whilst we refined our systems. I wish you a wonderful half term and I hope you get lots of rest so you are ready for another busy term!

We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 3rd November.

Stay safe, Miss Thorndycraft

Word of the Week

Words unlock the doors to a world of understanding

Next term we will be introducing Word of the Week to the children in Years One and Two. The children will have the time and opportunity in class to discuss, explore, share and celebrate a new, exciting and ambitious word. They will be encouraged to use this both in their daily language and also in their writing.

Vocabulary is vital to reading and writing and by exposing the children to a range of vocabulary we will be encouraging them to expand their vocabulary. This in turn enables them to use these words to express their emotions, intentions and decisions. It helps them to understand new information and ideas.

We will be sharing these words with you via our newsletters, homework slides and Twitter. Please support us by sharing these words with your children, ask them to explain the word and encourage them to use it in their daily conversations with you at home.

Sutton Dyslexia Association

The next Parent/Carer Drop In will be on Monday 9th November 2020 at Oaks Park cafe, Carshalton from 10 - 11.30am.

The meeting will be in the white side extension of the cafe.

There is a free car park at the Croydon Lane entrance.

All welcome.

Design a Secret Garden Competition

Sky Cinema in partnership with the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) is delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for young gardeners and visionaries to take part in an exclusive competition.

They would like young people to imagine they have discovered the gates to a hidden, secret garden and to let them know what it looks like.

You can choose how you would like to showcase their garden.

Perhaps you could draw or paint your design, create a collage or model, or even plant up a miniature version of it.

The winner will have the chance to see their garden, or elements of it, brought to life either in their school or in a community space. The winner and runners up will also win a movie goody bag.

Deadline for entries is 19th November 2020
