Updates
Welcome back to the final term of this academic year!
This term, like the previous two, will be action-packed, filled with visits, trips and sporting events as well as a Coronation celebration.
We also need to remember all the fantastic Friends' events which are planned. To help you stay updated, please regularly check the dates section.
We would like to wish all our Muslim families a very happy Eid.
We hope the sun will continue to make an appearance to enable the children to enjoy our new playground equipment which has been installed in our front playground and Nursery outside area. The children have certainly enjoyed using it this week.
We would like to thank Friends for contributing to the equipment as well as the family who donated some money to the school.
This week's learning
Nursery
What a busy first week back our Nursery children have had. They have read the story of Jack and the beanstalk. They have been drawing and discussing who is at the top of their beanstalks as well as having a go at planting their own beans. They have also started exploring Read, Write, Inc phonics by spotting their 'sound of the day' and posting it in the letter box. They also had a go at some writing. Super work!
Reception
Reception have had a very busy week too. Their unit of learning this half term is 'From ant to elephant'. This week they enjoyed reading 'Aaaaargh Spider!' and writing facts about spiders as well as which pets they have or would like to have.
As mathematicians, they have used tens frames to build teen numbers.
They have also had a lovely time out in the sunshine in the sandpit!
They loved acting out the Now Press Play mini beast experience.
As scientists, they have been looking closely at mini beasts and identifying similarities and differences.
Year 1
As mathematicians, Year 1 has been looking at how to share equally to help them solve division calculations.
As artists, they have been exploring sculptures and drawing some. They also made their own sculptures out of play dough.
As scientists, they made a knowledge harvest of what they know about plants and explored botanical gardens using Nearpod.
Super Work!
Year 2
As scientists, Year 2 have been looking at different trees and working out why the bark is so important. As mathematics they have been adding and subtracting including renaming.
Home learning
Isabella in Year 1 made her own town over Easter. She created houses which stood on the streets as well as people. Great work.
Thank you to Melvyn who donated the Grannysaurus to his class library to celebrate his birthday.
Thank you to Poppy who donated a selection of beautiful books to her class library to celebrate her birthday.
If your child has completed some learning at home, please get them to bring it in so we can share and celebrate it.
Our daily sustainable focus
Mindful Monday
Thinking about the impact of our actions (meat free meals, turning off lights, screens, being careful to recycle properly).
Tidy up Tuesday
Collecting rubbish from around the school to protect our local environment and wildlife.
Walk to school Wednesday
Reduce our carbon footprint and improve the air quality in our local community.
Thrifty Thursday
Helping the local community to reduce, reuse and recycle by donating items to school that you no longer require.
Feel good Friday
The Eco Squad reflect and feedback to their classes on the positive impact we have made during the week including counting crisp packets - there will be a prize for the best class at the end of each term. They will also relay positive stories about how scientists are coming up with solutions to our sustainability problems around the world.
Feel good Friday
The Eco Squad have been counting crisp packets again.
Thank you for helping us to recycle
609
crisp packets!

This will ensure cards are not lost/misplaced or unfairly swapped.
Thank you for your support.
Jewelry Guidance
We would prefer children NOT to wear earrings to school.
Earrings are NOT permitted for PE or after school sports activities. If your child can not remove their earring, please apply tape over their stud earrings.
On other days a maximum of one pair of small plain studs is permitted. No hoops or large studs and no dangly earrings please.
No other jewelry should be worn.
In addition, nail varnish is not to be worn to school and long hair must be tied back at all times.
Smoking/Vaping
Please note, we do not allow smoking or vaping on our site.
We would appreciate it if you could respect our children's health and ensure you are well away from the premises before smoking or vaping.
Thank you for your support.
Parking
Please remember to be respectful of our neighbours by driving and parking responsibly in the surrounding roads.
Please ensure you do NOT block driveways.
If you want to report illegal parking in the roads around school, please contact Sutton Council's parking enforcement contractor on 0208 661 0096.
Early Birds Drop off
Please remember to be respectful of our neighbours when dropping off early to the breakfast club.
We have been asked by local residents who are shift workers to please keep any noise/early morning greetings to a low level. Thank you for your co-operation.
Uniform
Now the weather is beginning to warm up, please remember children should be in sensible school shoes.
No sandals or flip flops. Thank you for your support.
PE Kits
On days when children have PE they can come to school in their PE uniform.
A reminder our PE uniform is: red shorts or Plain Dark tracksuit bottoms/leggings with a white crew neck t-shirt and trainers. The school jumper should be worn over this. No other multi-coloured bottoms or jumpers should be worn.
For health and safety watches and jewellery are not allowed in school. If children have pierced ears, only ear studs may be worn. These will be taped up for PE lessons.
Long hair must always be tied back, and no extreme hairstyles are allowed.

For sickness and same day medical appointments: Cheam Common Infants' Absence Form
For future appointments and exceptional absences: Request for Exceptional Absence form
Birthdays
As a healthy school we ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to the library instead of bringing treats for the class. The book will help us to grow our library and ensure we are promoting healthy eaters.
We will display a photo of your child with their book in the library.
Action Needed
Parental Consents
The parental consents have been changed to make it easier to understand what you are consenting to for your child.
Please note that social media now comes under the remit of the School/Trust Website and the Newsletter.
Action Required by Parents/Carers
Some consents remain the same, to view the changes please log into the Arbor App/Web page. On your child’s home page there will be a notice asking you to either select 'Decline Consent' or 'Give Consent' (if you have more than 1 child in the school you will need to action on every child’s profile)
Please can we ask you to action any new consents as a matter of urgency. If you do not action any relating to photos, your child's photo will not appear in any publications.
Please note that you can change your consent status at any time by contacting the school office to make the necessary changes. Thank you for your cooperation.
Book Swap
Our book swap books are all ready on our book shelf ready to be shared and then returned or exchanged. The book swap is located in the school office reception area accessible between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
Keeping children safe
Please click here to access a document with guidance on how to keep your child safe when choosing a club tutor or coach for them.
We have been informed by the local police that there has been a rise in outer clothing and mobile phones being taken from individuals, predominantly from Secondary School age.
As a preventative measure, we wanted to make you aware of this for your child/children with regards to the wearing of high-value outer clothing and displaying their mobile phones when out in the community.
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
Please email the school office ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk if your details need updating. Alternatively you can update them using the Arbor App.
