Staff news

This week we welcomed two new members of staff to the team. Mrs Shadwell who is the new teaching assistant in Rabbits and Fawns. Miss Boghian who is the new midday supervisor and who will also be working with the wrap around team.

What has been happening this week?

Year 2

This week Year 2 have been reading Look up! They then planned, drafted and published a flyer persuading people to attend a meteor shower. The children used their Chromebooks and they used a program called Adobe Spark. We were so pleased with the results we shared some of the flyers on Twitter and the author of the book liked our tweets! As well as others including someone in Miami.

Anti-Bullying Week

Monday 16th November - Friday 20th November

The theme of this year's Anti-Bullying Week is 'United Against Bullying'.

On Monday we took part in Odd Sock Day. We celebrated how unique and different we all are! Throughout the week, we had PSHE lessons and activities.

If you would like to make a donation to the Anti-Bullying Alliance, please click here.

Distance learning

This week Ducklings and Robins have been busy completing activities on Seesaw! We are looking forward to welcoming them back next week.

EYFS World Nursery Rhyme Week

Monday 16th November - Friday 20th November

This week all of the Nursery and Reception classes across the LEO Trust took part in the national ‘Nursery Rhyme Week’.

Road Safety Week

This week Key Stage One has been learning about road safety and the importance of being safe during the Winter. For example wearing a coat with reflective parts so when a car light shines on it, it reflects. We also discussed why we have flower beds at the top of our road.

What is happening next week?

Virtual club

New parents welcome meeting

Do you know someone who is thinking of applying for our nursery or reception for 2021 - it may even be you? We have not been able to hold our usual open days/tours and we appreciate this makes choosing a school a difficult decision for families who might not know how wonderful our school community is!

If you have a friend or neighbour who has shared with you that they may apply to us, please can you direct them to our website where we have a form to register interest in a Virtual Presentation followed by question and answer sessions.

Christmas

As part of our Christmas celebrations we will be taking part in the St Raphael’s Rudolph Run on Thursday 10th December 2020. The Rudolph Run is a charity event organised by St Raphael’s hospice. It is highly likely that you or someone close to you will know someone who has benefited from the work of this hospice. They provide end of life care and support for families in Merton & Sutton.

A Rudolph Run is simply a sponsored walk/run, incorporating the Christmas spirit, that the children will complete during school time.

Our Rudolph Run will take place on the school playground during the school day on Thursday 10th December.

The children will receive reindeer antlers and a red nose to wear. The cost of this is £1. It would be great if each child could donate at least £1 to the Just Giving page. A Just Giving page has been set up to collect donations. Please click here to find the page.

Friday 11th December is National Christmas Jumper Day raising money for the NSPCC - children can wear their St Raphael’s antlers and nose on this day too if they wish.

The Friends of Cheam Common Academy Christmas Raffle 2020 is bigger and better than ever before! The whole school community has pulled together to create a fabulous set of prizes in this really challenging and uncertain time.

As there will be no Christmas Fair this is a fantastic opportunity for us to raise funds. Please send this link to your family and friends so we can share these wonderful prizes far and wide!

The money raised will all go into the PTA fund and be used across both the infant and junior schools.

Tickets £1.50 each

To purchase tickets and view the prizes on offer, please click on the link below:

Please do share the link far and wide.

There are some great prizes up for grabs!

Good luck and happy raffling!!!

We would like to be active citizens and we need your help!

As we have entered a second lock down, the children would like to help people in the community to feel less isolated.

If you know of someone (a neighbour or relative for example) who lives alone or will have to shield for the next month, please email their name and address to the school office so that our active citizens can send them something to brighten their day.

Thank you for your help during these difficult times.

Christmas Lunch

Christmas lunch is on Friday 11th December. If your child usually has a packed lunch on a Friday and would like a Christmas lunch, please order by Friday 27th November by emailing the school office.

Children's reading books

Please can you return the reading books that are sent home each week as we are running low and unable to send some titles home as these relate to our weekly focus. If you have lost the reading book, please let your class teacher know so we start to create a list of books we need to reorder. If a child does not return 2 or more books in a row, we will not be able to provide them with hard copy books. They will be redirected to Oxford Reading Buddy.
