Healthy Schools

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the silver award for Healthy Schools London. Thank you to Mrs Champness for leading on this.

Safer Streets

Sutton Council is committed to making the streets outside our schools safer and healthier for our children. This is why we introduced 10 school street schemes across the borough in November 2021. We are now seeking your feedback on a proposed scheme where your child goes to school.

Your feedback will help us to understand how well the scheme is working and if there are any opportunities for improvement.

The survey opens on Monday 4th July and can be accessed via https://bit.ly/3NrGYhM. We would be grateful if you could complete the survey before the closing date of Sunday 17th July and we thank you for your participation.

What has been happening in school?

This week in Reception, we have been reading 'Handa's Surprise'. The children have tried different fruits, partitioning fruit and role playing.

National Sports Week

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing ‘Healthy Learners’ at CCI we took part in National School Sports Week last week.

KS1 children took part in the Youth Sport Trust’s ‘one a day’ challenges. The children enjoyed exploring the concept of beating their own ‘Personal Best’ score whilst jumping, catching and developing their ball skills.

Inspired by their skipping workshop, earlier in the term, Year 2 also held an inter-class skipping competition. Well done to: Ayo, Skyla, Amara and Noah from Eagles, Quinton, Annabel, Ronia and Aurora from Owls and Noah, Lilian, Norita and Juno from Falcons who represented their classes admirably. The worthy winners were Jerry, Midhah, Maya and Amber from Kestrels. It was clear that a lot of practice had taken place since the workshop!

Reception children also entered into the spirit of things and it was great to see our younger pupils developing a love of physical activity.

Important information about the Poppy Playtime game

It has been brought to our attention that some of our pupils are talking about an online game called Poppy Playtime. Poppy Playtime is a horror/puzzle game which involves the player investigating an abandoned toy factory to solve the mystery of what happened.

The game does not appear to have any age restrictions however the developers have recommended for players age 8+. While there is a cost to download or stream this to a PC, there is free related content available on other platforms such as YouTube and TikTok as well as copycat versions available through Roblox and Minecraft. This is also only the first chapter and Chapter 2 is scheduled for release in 2022.

The game is designed to appeal to young children however some of the imagery may be frightening to them and the style of gameplay could increase feelings of anxiety or stress. The game isn’t gory but uses child friendly toys in frightening ways which could make young children scared of things they have previously felt comfortable with.

How can you help?

If you become aware of your child playing the game then:

  • Reassure them they are safe

  • Talk to them about what they have seen online and how this has made them feel

  • Encourage open and non-judgemental discussions with young children about what they are seeing online to give reassurance that they can talk to you if they have seen something of concern and to alert you or another
