What has been happening this week?

Walk to School Week

Well done to Finches who were the class that walked the most last week!

A fantastic week of learning!

Great writing from Ida!

Year 1 have been learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy this week. They have been recreating some of his land art sculptures using natural materials they found on Autumn walks.

Garden club

The Year 2 Gardening Club have had a great time growing their own cress this term. This week they got the ultimate reward; being able to taste their homegrown produce! Well done to everyone involved, the sandwiches were delicious!

What is happening next week?

Clubs

Please note there are no teacher clubs next week. However Lingotots, Techy Tots and Playball will still be continuing.

KS1 Parents consultations

Year 1 and Year 2 Parent Consultation Evenings will take place on Tuesday 20th October, Wednesday 21st October and Thursday 22nd October.

Due to current guidelines, these meetings will all take place virtually via Google Meet. You should have received an email this week to inform you of the time that has been allocated and the meet code. Each appointment will last 10 minutes. If you have not received an email please contact your teacher via the year group email.

Road closures

The School Street Road Closures will begin on 19th October between 8.15-8.55am and 2.45-3:30pm. Kingsmead Avenue will be closed and barriers will be placed to stop cars passing and stopping outside the school. If you have to drive to school, please park away from school and walk along Kingsmead Avenue. Please be aware that residents and emergency vehicles are able to use the road, however residents have been asked to avoid these key times.

Also the council has informed us that they are unable to provide staff to help with the closure of the road. Both schools feel that we need the road to be closed for the safety of our children however we are unable to guarantee to be able to staff this everyday. Therefore we would be grateful if any parent, carers or members of the local community would be prepared to support us and volunteer in supporting the road closure. If you are interested in this role, please contact us as soon as possible.

Art projects linked to Black History Month

Across the school, children are going to be exploring art and music next week. In Year 1, the children are going to be finding out about Lois Mailou Jones and recreate one of her paintings. In Year 2, the children are going to be finding out about kente patterns and symbols. We can't wait to see their creations!

Mufti on 23rd October

Next Friday, the children are invited to come to school in their own bright coloured clothes. Please can the children bring ÂŁ1 with them . All donations will go to Friends and support the school with buying new resources. There will be buckets allocated at the entrance of the playground.
