Outdoor Learning Day- wear green

20th May

Walk to School Week - Monday 17th May - Friday 21st May

For this week, children are encouraged to walk to school as many times as possible. This could mean walking from home or parking further away from the school and walking the rest of the way. Any child who walks to school everyday receives a badge.

To start the week, we would like all children to walk to school in trainers on Monday 17th May. To end the week, the children are allowed to come to school on Friday 21st May in mufti. Watch out for our extra special badge competition to run alongside Walk to School Week!

Outdoor Learning Day- 20th May

On Thursday 20th May, it will be Outdoor Learning Day. Children will be asked to wear something green to raise awareness on current global climate issues (and building back greener).

What has been happening this week?

Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. The focus is on nature.

The children listened to the assembly and ventured outdoors! Some of the classes visited the Forest School and others went into the playground.

Resources:

Nursery talked about how we can stop, slow down, breathe, be calm and relax. We watched Little Cloud, the animated story by Eric Carle (our author focus). Then they went into our garden and lay on the grass carpet to see what we could see in the clouds as they passed by.

What learning has been happening in school this week?

REAL PE Showcase Lessons

Sutton Sports’ Partnership (SSP) visited this week for an introduction to Real Gym. Catherine taught us how to make straight, tuck and star shapes with our bodies and invited us to find the right level of challenge for ourselves.

Wrens Class found different ways to make straight shapes. Some made straight shapes while standing or flat on the mat. Some were confident to try the back and front support position.

Catherine explained that to be successful we needed to make a recognisable shape, have good body tension and make a repeatable shape.

Real Gym is inclusive and helps us to cooperate with others. We learn our fundamental movement skills including balance, agility and coordination. These skills will be transferable when we come to try new sports as we get older. They are also important skills for life and help us to sit straight at our tables when doing our recorded work and even balance to put on our socks.

Importantly, Real Gym helps to create positive early core memories of physical activity, which are so important in creating healthy relationships with physical activity for life.
