Year 1 trip to Nonsuch Park
Thankfully the weather was kind to us on Thursday, enabling Year 1 to have a wonderful 1 trip to Nonsuch Park.
The children really enjoyed exploring the gardens and looking for clues and the ruins of Nonsuch Palace.
They drew some beautiful flowers and sketched the Mansion house. They loved playing together, looking at nature, finding deciduous and evergreen trees. What a wonderful way to end our History and Science lessons!
Achievements
As we have finished our penultimate week of this academic year, we are incredibly pleased and proud to share the amazing academic achievements of our pupils. Once again, our fabulous pupils have made great progress from their starting points which has culminated in the end of year results below. We would like to congratulate all the pupils on their hard work throughout the year - we are all incredibly proud of you.
A huge 'thank you' to all the teachers, learning support assistants and to you for your ongoing support for the children without which these results would not have been possible.
76% of our Reception children achieved a 'good level of development' at the end of their Early Years and Foundation Stage journey.
94% of our Year 1 pupils passed their phonics screening check.
Our Year 2 pupils achieved above last year's national results in their reading, writing and maths Key Stage 1 SATs (see below for details).
We're all going on a summer holiday!
This week Nursery have had a wonderful time thinking about going on holiday. They have made holiday collages have decided which destination they would like to go on holiday too as well as making their own passport. They have also practised their letter formation by writing postcards! They have enjoyed being travel agents by making holiday brochures and completing booking forms.
They have also been very active this week, practising for their sports day today.
This week the children have been working hard practising for our class assemblies. We enjoyed sharing our learning with our families and friends.
We read 'Giraffes can't Dance' and thought about how we can get better at things by practising. We wrote 'proud clouds' to help us reflect on how much we have accomplished this year.
In maths we have been recapping our teen numbers and key concepts such as doubling and addition.
Well done Reception for your fabulous performances this week. We are all so proud of you!
Wow, it's our penultimate week of Year One, we can't believe how fast the year has gone!
The children had a really wonderful time meeting their new teachers and completing a 'get to know you' activity in their Year 2 classes. They all came back very excited.
In English this week, they have written a letter to their new teacher. They have looked at features of a letter and have tried to incorporate them. The children reflected on the amazing things they have learnt and done in Year 1 and watched a video of themselves, which they really enjoyed. The children wrote some wonderful letters and proudly showed their new teachers their wonderful writing. We are really proud of how far they have all come and the progress they have made.
As Mathematicians, the children have been exploring weight. They have been comparing the weight of different objects using balancing scales saying which is heavier and which is lighter. They have really enjoyed using the balancing scales and practically exploring mass. They weighed the mass of an apple which is 14 units while the glue is 18units.
Can you compare objects at home? Which is the heaviest and lightest?
In Science, the children continued to think about the different seasons, in particular, recapping their learning on different weathers, they thought about which clothes you need to wear in those different seasons!
Year 2 have had a busy week of learning.
They all enjoyed going over to the Juniors to find their new classroom and meet their new teachers.
As mathematicians, they have been looking at the relationship of multiplication and division and learning that they are the inverse and hence if they know the multiplication sentence, they can calculate the division.
Can you ask them to write the multiplication and division sentences using the numbers 3, 5 and 15?
As designers, using all the information they had learnt about structures, they designed and made their own bridge. We were all very impressed at how stable they were. We were able to drive cars over them as well as under them!
They have also been practising for their end of term celebration assembly.
Great job!
Birthdays - polite reminder
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
If you do bring in treats, we will NOT hand them out. We expect you and your child to hand them out so you can check if parents are happy for their child to receive the treat.
Happy Birthday to Lora. Thank you for donating Cranky Crab to our library.
Happy birthday to all our pupils who have celebrated a birthday this week.
Happy birthday to Leandro and a massive well done for raising £285 to donate to his favourite charity 'Protected Paws Animal Rescue' by asking his friends to make a donation to charity rather than giving him a birthday present.
If you would like to inform us of any achievements your child has completed outside of school, please complete this FORM

Thank you

Children and young people are bound to spend lots more time on devices since Covid. DON’T FEEL BAD – lots will be schoolwork or healthy ways of catching up with friends or having fun. There are many ways to keep them safe, healthy and happy.
Read these six top tips to help your children to keep safe online.
There are many different views about physical chastisement, but it is widely accepted there are much more effective ways to teach children right from wrong.
As a local authority, Sutton has seen a number of children coming to the attention of police and social care due to the use of physical chastisement and as such has worked with other local authorities on an initiative to reduce this number.
In line with this initiative, we agree that anything that causes harm to a child is unacceptable.
As a school, we have a duty to report incidents of suspected or confirmed physical chastisement to social care and the police and this can be with ot without visible bruising, grazes, scratches, minor swelling, cuts as well as stress injuries from prolonged standing, position holding as these are banned by law in the United Kingdom.
Smacking or chastising that does not leave a mark is now illegal in Wales and Scotland, and there is currently pressure being placed on the Government to make it illegal in England and Northern Ireland too. It is therefore important to understand that even if a child has been smacked but no injuries are visible, social care or the police may still choose to take further action.
If you would like support on how to manage your child’s behaviour at home, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.

Surrey County Council encourages residents to foster
Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience that can transform the lives of both the children being fostered and the foster carers themselves. Children who enter the care system have often experienced trauma and instability in their lives, and a caring, stable foster family can make a significant difference in their wellbeing and development.
Nationally, there are currently over 70,000 children living with foster families in the UK. However, there is still a significant shortage of foster carers, with around 9,265 new foster families needed in the next year alone. In Surrey, there are over 1,000 children in care and Surrey County Council have just under 400 foster families.
Foster carers come from all walks of life and backgrounds, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fostering. Whether you are single or married, young or old, own your own home or rent, you can still become a foster carer. The most important thing is a willingness to provide a safe and loving home for a child in need.
This is the message that Surrey County Council is promoting in national recruitment film ‘Any of Us’. The short film has been jointly funded by over 80 councils across England and aims to raise awareness about fostering, particularly among those people who may not have previously considered themselves suited to fostering. The film looks at the potential of three people from different backgrounds to become foster carers, and the potential of children they care for to grow and thrive. ‘Any of Us’ will be available to watch from 26 September.
If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time to take that first step and find out more. The more people who consider fostering, the greater the chance of finding loving, stable homes for children in Surrey who desperately need them.
You can contact Surrey County Council Fostering Service on 0800 096 9626, via email at fostering.recruitment@surreycc.gov.uk or by visiting the website; www.surreycc.gov.uk/fostering
You can watch ‘Any of Us’ via Any of Us - YouTube and connect with the Fostering Service on social media via @surreyfostering
