Year 2 trip to The Tower of London
Last Friday, to enhance their learning about 'The Great Fire of London', Year 2 went on a trip to Hampton Court. They were very excited to board a double Decker bus which had 'Cheam Common Infants - The Tower of London ' on it. In the sunshine they loved exploring the palace, seeing the crown jewels and ravens. They had a wonderful time exploring the towers.
Thank you to all the parent helpers.
Key Stage 1 Multi Skills
On Thursday, some of our Year 1 and Year 2 children attended a multi skills event in Purley. They had a great time practising a range of skills from sack races to throwing and jumping. They all showed great sportsmanship skills and worked incredibly hard. Well done all! Thank you to Mrs Perschky, Mr Sanders, Mrs Champness and Mrs Brady for organising.
Arts Week
This week has been LEO Art Week. Our children have had a wonderful time demonstrating their artistic flare. Our Nursery children explored the effect of painting with bubble wrap! Year One created floral pictures as well as looking at different emotions and a revolting children dance!
Some of our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils were also lucky enough to visit the LEO Art Gallery at Sutton Library where they saw a collection of LEO pupils' artwork.
To end the week, Year 1 and 2 watched a performance of 'The Wizard of Oz' performed by M&M Theatre production company.
Remember you can still go and see the artwork yourself.
Ahoy, me hearties!
This week Nursery have had a swashbuckling time being pirates. They made their own telescopes and eye patches and had a great time pretending to sail the seven seas.
They had lots of fun demonstrating their artistic skills creating wonderful 'under the sea' pictures using their hand prints.
In addition, they have been developing their fine motor skills and practising their number and formation. They have also enjoyed, as always, being active on the trim trail and in their garden.
What a busy week!
This week in reception we have continued our learning about 'Handa's Surprise' linked to our unit of learning 'The places we'll go'. Some of us went 'On Safari' using a Now Press Play experience. We also made some African elephants as well as ordering different animals from tallest to shortest.
We explored how the weather is different in the UK and Africa. The children made weather forecast reports for Worcester Park. We thought about our local area and created maps of our journeys home from school.
The children have worked really hard practising their words and songs for the class assemblies next week.
We can't wait to show them to our parents!
Well done everyone for another great week in Reception.
We have had a really lovely Arts Week. The children have been very creative and enjoyed learning new songs, watching dramas and being creative with their creation of wild flowers.
In English, the children have been learning instructional writing. They learnt the features of writing instructions and have written instructions to make a fruit salad. They have all tried very hard to use imperative verbs e.g chop, put, wash, slice, mix and and written them in the correct order.
In Mathematics, the children have been exploring capacity and volume. They have filled containers so they are full, half full and empty. They have estimated the volume of a container and measured it accurately.
The children loved D.T this week as they made their own fruit salad. They chopped a variety of fruits, learning how to cut safely and then got to taste their delicious fruit salads.
Can your child make a fruit salad for their family?
Can you discuss where the fruits come from and if the seeds are edible or not?
In Science, the children learnt about the seasons and the length of a day. They ordered the months of the year and sorted which seasons matched the month e.g summer months are June, July and August.
Can your child say the months associated with each season?
Year 2 have had a busy week of learning.
In computing, they have once again been using Canva AI to help them be digital artists. This week they have generated houses which they have then painted.
As mathematicians, they have been looking at using arrays to help them multiply.
Can you ask them to draw an array to show 3 x 4
In DT, continuing to look at structures, they looked at who could build a strong bridge out of sugar cubes.
They enjoyed using the Now Press Play 'Guy Fawkes' experience to enhance their knowledge of The Great Fire of London.
As scientists, they have been looking at the life cycle of different flowers.
Can they tell you the different stages of the life cycle of a daffodil
In English, they have been recapping the features of a recount to write a recount of their trip to the Tower of London.
Great job!
Birthdays - polite reminder
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
If you do bring in treats, we will NOT hand them out. We expect you and your child to hand them out so you can check if parents are happy for their child to receive the treat.
Happy Birthday to Julia. Thank you for donating 'When Cookie Crumbled'.
Happy Birthday to Sophia. Thank you for donating Mermaid.
Happy birthday to all our pupils who have celebrated a birthday this week.
Happy Birthday to Harry. Thank you for donating The Fish who could Wish.
If you would like to inform us of any achievements your child has completed outside of school, please complete this FORM

Children and young people are bound to spend lots more time on devices since Covid. DON’T FEEL BAD – lots will be schoolwork or healthy ways of catching up with friends or having fun. There are many ways to keep them safe, healthy and happy.
Read these six top tips to help your children to keep safe online.
There are many different views about physical chastisement, but it is widely accepted there are much more effective ways to teach children right from wrong.
As a local authority, Sutton has seen a number of children coming to the attention of police and social care due to the use of physical chastisement and as such has worked with other local authorities on an initiative to reduce this number.
In line with this initiative, we agree that anything that causes harm to a child is unacceptable.
As a school, we have a duty to report incidents of suspected or confirmed physical chastisement to social care and the police and this can be with ot without visible bruising, grazes, scratches, minor swelling, cuts as well as stress injuries from prolonged standing, position holding as these are banned by law in the United Kingdom.
Smacking or chastising that does not leave a mark is now illegal in Wales and Scotland, and there is currently pressure being placed on the Government to make it illegal in England and Northern Ireland too. It is therefore important to understand that even if a child has been smacked but no injuries are visible, social care or the police may still choose to take further action.
If you would like support on how to manage your child’s behaviour at home, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.

Surrey County Council encourages residents to foster
Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience that can transform the lives of both the children being fostered and the foster carers themselves. Children who enter the care system have often experienced trauma and instability in their lives, and a caring, stable foster family can make a significant difference in their wellbeing and development.
Nationally, there are currently over 70,000 children living with foster families in the UK. However, there is still a significant shortage of foster carers, with around 9,265 new foster families needed in the next year alone. In Surrey, there are over 1,000 children in care and Surrey County Council have just under 400 foster families.
Foster carers come from all walks of life and backgrounds, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fostering. Whether you are single or married, young or old, own your own home or rent, you can still become a foster carer. The most important thing is a willingness to provide a safe and loving home for a child in need.
This is the message that Surrey County Council is promoting in national recruitment film ‘Any of Us’. The short film has been jointly funded by over 80 councils across England and aims to raise awareness about fostering, particularly among those people who may not have previously considered themselves suited to fostering. The film looks at the potential of three people from different backgrounds to become foster carers, and the potential of children they care for to grow and thrive. ‘Any of Us’ will be available to watch from 26 September.
If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time to take that first step and find out more. The more people who consider fostering, the greater the chance of finding loving, stable homes for children in Surrey who desperately need them.
You can contact Surrey County Council Fostering Service on 0800 096 9626, via email at fostering.recruitment@surreycc.gov.uk or by visiting the website; www.surreycc.gov.uk/fostering
You can watch ‘Any of Us’ via Any of Us - YouTube and connect with the Fostering Service on social media via @surreyfostering
