It has been a week filled with excitement and wonder for the children. The children in Reception were thrilled to discover their new messy kitchen in the gravel garden on Tuesday morning, built by Mr. Jewell, Daisy and Millie's father, who generously dedicated his bank holiday Saturday to this project. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Jewell, as well as Lords builders merchants on the Kimpton Industrial estate and Cheam Buildings Services for their generous resource donations.
On Thursday, the Year One children visited Hobbledown, describing it as "the best time ever," further enhancing their scientific understanding of animals following their earlier hands-on experience with 'Tom's Talking Reptiles.' This week's cooler weather has been perfect for our recent celebrations. The entire school participated in a VE Day picnic, uniting Nursery to Year Two to commemorate Victory in Europe. It was a touching experience to see all the children celebrating with singing and dancing, having spent the week learning about the significance of this day.
This evening, as I left the 'Friends of Cheam Common’ were preparing for the Bingo night. Their dedication to fundraising for both of the Cheam Common schools is invaluable, and they consistently organise new and innovative events to raise money for the schools. Looking ahead, next Friday will be a rainbow mufti day, allowing children to wear their own colourful clothes in exchange for donating an item of their assigned colour for raffle prizes. Thanks to the fantastic efforts of the 'Friends' and your generous contributions, we are pleased to announce upcoming improvements to our school facilities. During the May half term, a canopy will be installed outside the Squirrels and Hedgehogs classrooms. Following this, we hope to make significant improvements to our playground over the summer holiday. Exciting times ahead.
Several of our staff members will be participating in the Marsden March on Sunday and I wish them and any of our school community who are participating in this amazing event the very best of luck! It truly is such a worthy cause.
Mrs Hughes
On Friday afternoon, we celebrated the VE Day 80th Anniversary as a school. Throughout the week, we had been learning songs such as 'We'll Meet Again' and 'We have no bananas' and we came together to sing these! We had a picnic in the playground followed by lots of dancing.
On Tuesday our year one Eco Squad were joined by by Mrs MP and some of our future environmentalists from Year One on a trip to Wisley arranged by the LEO Forest School Team. Children from across the Trust have the opportunity to experience this with the aim being to raise awareness of the importance of looking after our natural world for the next generation.
If your child has grapes as a snack, could you ensure that these are cut into halves or quarters so that your child is able to eat them safely.
There is a huge amount of lost property at the moment. This will be displayed in the playground at pick up and drop off when the weather is good enough. Please ensure children's uniforms are named.

Our Year 1 children travelled to Hobbledown on Thursday on their school trip.
At the site, they enjoyed an animal handling experience, sensory play in the Imaginarium, seeing the different birds and other animals on the farm, and exploring the many play areas.
A massive thank you to our staff and parents for facilitating the trip! The children had the most amazing time.
Nursery have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We also did ice painting and made bunting to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day!
Reception have been enjoying their lovely new gravel kitchen this week! We also used the rekenreks in maths for the first time. We learnt the story of Owl Babies and wrote about the characters.
Wow, what amazing week we have had. Year One had the best time on their first school trip to Hobbledown. All of the children loved seeing the wide variety of animals from camels, llamas, rhea, birds of prey to name just a few. We were so proud of them for touching or stroking a tortoise, cockroach, stick insect or millipede. They loved jumping on the bouncy pillow and water pillow and climbing in the tunnels in the sky! It was wonderful to see them having so much fun. The imaginarium was amazing, the children really enjoyed exploring and playing in this area. Thank you to all the parent helpers, you were fantastic and we appreciate it! Year One ended the week celebrating VE day, they enjoyed learning about the meaning of this special day and enjoyed celebrating.
Year 2 were budding artists this week, carefully observing and sketching a variety of musical instruments, from the strings to the brass! In Science, our young botanists eagerly monitored their plant growth experiment, patiently awaiting the first signs of life. Creativity flowed in Writing as they concocted their own 'Marvellous Medicines' – a sensory explosion of shaving foam, glitter, and more – while practicing time words, adverbs, and commas in their instructions. Our Geography explorers journeyed from the UK to China, discovering the fascinating differences between weather and climate and the diverse climates within China itself. Finally, a burst of patriotic crafting saw Year 2 designing Union Jack hats, bunting, popcorn holders, and delicious iced cakes in preparation for our VE Day 80th Anniversary picnic. A truly busy and brilliant week for Year 2!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.
