It has been absolutely wonderful to welcome our newest nursery children into school this week and it's been a real joy to see them exploring their new environment. We are so incredibly proud of all our nursery and Reception children for settling in so beautifully, especially those who have stayed for lunch – what a fantastic achievement!
A big thank you to all the Year 1 and Year 2 parents and carers who were able to attend the curriculum meetings this week. We really appreciate you taking the time to come in and learn more about what your children will be doing. For those who couldn't make it, we will be sharing the slides soon, and if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to email Mrs Harris or Mrs MP via the school office.
It's been brilliant to see how much the children have enjoyed using the playground equipment this week. We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone for following the rules about not letting children on the equipment before and after school. Your cooperation with this is so important for everyone's safety and we truly appreciate it.
Please note that we have now added our harvest celebration dates to the newsletter. These celebrations will be held in St Philips Church and similar to our Christmas performances will be for KS1 (Years 1 and 2) and will be held over 2 days. This is in response to parent requests as last year our one performance was extremely busy. We respectfully request that you limit attendees to 2 and only attend one performance. This will ensure that everyone is able to enjoy this celebration.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Hughes
On Wednesday 17th September, children will be having their individual school photos taken throughout the day.
Children should wear full school uniform to school. If your child's class has PE, their PE kit should be brought in with them, and they will have the opportunity to change after their photos have been taken.
Any siblings who both attend Cheam Common Infants will also have their photo taken together during the school day.
We will be opening up the hall at 8am for the opportunity for your child to have their photo taken with any siblings who are not at Cheam Common Infants. Please form a queue outside the school office if you would like to have your children's photo taken together. Please note that this is always extremely popular so queues are expected. After their photo, children will be expected to leave school with their parent/carer until the gates normally open at 8:30am.
Friday 19th September 9am Seesaw Workshop (all year groups)
Thursday 25th September 9am Phonics Workshop (all year groups)
It would be appreciated if all children's belongings were labelled clearly with their name, especially jumpers, coats and water bottles.
If you would like to explore ways that our Family Support Worker could support your family, please complete this Google Form.
This survey is about parent/carer confidence in the support offered to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within mainstream schools in Sutton.
This survey is for parent/carers of all children and young people with SEND or suspected SEND. If more than one of your children has SEND, please complete separate surveys for each child.
The information you provide will help us to understand how parents and carers feel about current practices and identify areas where further support may be needed.
Please complete this survey by 30th September 2025.
Nursery have spent the first few days settling into their new classrooms and meeting new friends. We look forward to sharing their progress with you in the newsletter this year.
Reception have had a great first full week at school! They have been making new friends, learning the school bee rules and reading their focus text Goldilocks! They have done lots of Goldilocks themed activities like making porridge with water and building houses for the 3 Bears. They also made bees to reinforce their understanding of the 3 Bee Rules. Well done to Reception for such a wonderful week!
Year One has had a brilliant first two weeks of school. We are so proud of how well they have settled into Year One routines and expectations. They are enjoying such a wide range of provision and it has been lovely working with small groups of children seeing their writing and number abilities.
In English the children have been reading and writing about ‘Meesha makes friends’. They have written simple sentences to describe Meesha. In Maths, the children have been sequencing the days of the week e.g today is Monday, tomorrow will be Tuesday.
They have also been learning the months of the year and have enjoyed sharing which month is their birthday. In Geography they have started looking at the local area Worcester Park and what they might see in Worcester Park. It has been a busy week of learning!
Year 2 has had a fantastic start to the new term. They have taken their increased responsibilities very seriously and have enjoyed voting for peers to fill the much-coveted roles of School Council, Eco Squad, Digital Leaders, and Playtime Buddies. They have demonstrated excellent behavior, setting a wonderful example for the younger pupils.
This week, we have read 'Perfectly Norman', identifying nouns and adjectives and then created our own expanded noun phrases. In maths, the children have been representing multiples of ten in different ways and learning the difference between equations and expressions. In Science, observational skills were put to the test as the children categorised animals into the correct animal groups based on their characteristics. In History, we have begun to learn about Florence Nightingale and why she was such a significant historical figure. The children thoroughly enjoyed the Now Press Play experience where they explored life during the Crimean War.
The new learning challenges have been met with resilience, and we've been delighted to see everyone working so hard in all areas of the curriculum. What a fabulous start to the new year! Well done, Year 2!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We will share any photos of children and their birthday books here every week!
Happy birthday and a huge thank you for your book donation to your class!

Reporting absences
There is no longer an option to report a child’s absence via telephone. We ask that you use the google forms below to report absence. They are also available to complete on our website using the parent tab.
We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then please complete this form:
Request for Exceptional Absence form in advance for future appointments and exception absence.
Cheam Common Infants' Absence Form for sickness and same day medical appointments.
Communication
To help us assist you more efficiently when you email the school office, we kindly request that you include your child's class along with their name in your correspondence.
While we know all our students very well, having the class information readily available helps us to quickly identify your child and address your queries without any delay or guesswork.
For example, please consider writing: "Regarding [Child's Full Name], [Class, e.g., Year 3 Elm]" in the subject line or at the beginning of your email.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will help us continue to provide the best possible support to you and your children.
Thank you for your understanding.
Moving address
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
Please email the school office ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk if your details need updating. Alternatively you can update them using the Arbor App.
We are excited to announce that you can now log same-day absences for your children directly through the Parent Portal or Arbor App. Simply navigate to the Attendance section, click "Log Absence," and fill in the details. You can adjust the start and end times if it is not a full-day absence. Once submitted, school staff will review and either approve or reject the request. You will see approved absences in the Attendance tab.
Please note, this feature is only for same-day absences; for any extended or future absences, please continue to complete and submit the request for exceptional absence. We will also continue to use the same day absence google form. If you need to change an unapproved absence request, you will need to delete it and create a new one, as editing is not possible. Once an absence is approved, it cannot be deleted through the app, so you will need to contact the school for any further modifications.
This new reporting method will be used alongside our other established reporting procedures
