We would like to welcome all of our children, staff and families a Happy Easter. We hope you have a restful and safe break, and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 22nd April.
Wednesday 30th April
We are delighted to inform you that we have arranged an educational visit from Mill Cottage Farm Experience on Wednesday 30th April. This visit forms part of our unit of learning ‘From Ant to Elephant’ and provides the children with a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn about a wide range of farm animals.
The farm will be visiting us for the day based in the CCJ grounds. Reception classes will take turns to visit the farm and will be accompanied by their class teacher and additional adults.
We are very keen for this visit to take place and therefore request a voluntary contribution of £6.00 per pupil to be paid via Arbor before Monday 21st April. Please note that refunds cannot be made if your child is absent on the day. If insufficient voluntary contributions are received this visit might have to be cancelled. However if you have difficulty in affording the above amount, please come to see us privately either at the classroom door or speak to the office staff.
Thursday 8th May
We are excited to announce that Year 1 will be going on an educational visit to Hobbledown. As Scientists, we have been learning all about animals and classifying their features. Hobbledown will be a wonderful experience for them to explore a variety of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. It will allow them to enrich their scientific vocabulary as they discuss the animals and see them first hand. We will also be participating in an ‘Interactive Animal Experience’ consisting of a meet-and-greet session with a range of animals. This will be run by a qualified animal keeper, who will discuss habitats, adaptations, identification and features with the children.
On Thursday 8th May the whole year group will visit Hobbledown. We will leave school by coach at 9.00 a.m. Please ensure that your child arrives at school promptly at 8.30am. We will return to school at 3.00 pm. If we are delayed in getting back, an email will be sent out from the school office to parents.
The Council will be supporting families with food vouchers for two weeks of the summer holidays this year. This is the same offer that was made in 2024. Previous to that, vouchers were provided to families for the whole of the summer holiday period (6 weeks) but the Council is unable to offer that this year based on the value of the Household Support Grant provided by the Government (which has reduced this year) and the other needs that this grant meets.
Whilst the Council has prioritised the use of the grant for families with children, there are many other households in the Borough that also need support - including low income, working age households with no children, those that are in significant financial hardship or those households that need support paying their council tax.
Any family that is struggling with their finances can contact Together for Sutton on 020 8254 2616 or visit https://togetherforsutton.org.uk/ for free and confidential advice and support. Families can also access support through the Holiday Activities and Food programme - https://suttoninformationhub.org.uk/pages/haf.
Click on the links below to read our curriculum newsletters. On these, you can find out the topics that your children will be learning about, as well as information about home learning, PE days and general reminders for their year group.
If your child has grapes as a snack, could you ensure that these are cut into halves or quarters so that your child is able to eat them safely.
There is a huge amount of lost property at the moment. This will be displayed in the playground at pick up and drop off when the weather is good enough. Please ensure children's uniforms are named.
We are looking for any creative parents and families with building skills or links with local builders who would like to make a branded resource.
We would love to be able to provide our new Reception 'Forest School', gravel garden and outside continuous provision area with a Messy Kitchen! We know that these can be built using old pallets and wood and were wondering whether there were any parents who would be able to help with this?
Please contact the school office if you feel that this is something that you could help with. Any help would be beyond appreciated!
We host two Techy Tots clubs at Cheam Common Infants' Academy, on Monday and Fridays afternoons (3:15-4:15pm).
If you are interested in signing your child up, you can view more information here.
Eat Them to Defeat Them
This campaign to encourage children to eat more vegetables is coming into its seventh year. Involvement in this campaign has been proved to lead to increased vegetable consumption over the long term and with 29% of children eating less that one portion of vegetables a day it is important that we make every attempt to improve our children's diets. Look out for the daily vegetable that we will be encouraging your children to eat. Starting with carrots our catering team are adding a tasty and healthy carrot cake to the menu so your children can receive their 'eat them to defeat them sticker.'
Nursery have been enjoying the warm weather and exploring different water equipment!
Reception have been very busy this week! We learnt about Doctors as part of our topic People Who Help Us. We practised number bonds to 5, decorated Easter eggs and worked in teams to colour a picture as part of our computing lesson!
What a lovely week Year One has had, a little bit of sunshine makes learning extra fun :) The children have really enjoyed measuring in Maths and they are very confident in using a ruler and saying ‘The pencil is 15 cm long’.
They have amazed us this week with their wonderful writing of a setting description of the African Savannah and describing the watering hole. The children remembered to use adjectives to describe the animals e.g The snappy crocodile is hiding in the cold water.
The children have recapped all their wider curriculum learning and completed assessments to see what they have learnt this term. It was a fun day on Friday completing lots of lovely Easter activities. Have a wonderful Easter!
This week Year 2 was visited by the Sutton Schools Work who delivered a fantastic Easter CSI workshop. The children explored the clues left at the crime scene, matched finger prints to suspects and decoded secret messages in an effort to solve the mystery of the missing body!
In writing this week the focus has been ‘writing to inform’. The children completed their non chronological reports all about Emperor Penguins. They ensured that these were written in an engaging and informative manner including scientific language and full of interesting facts. The reports were illustrated with realistic sketches of penguins.
In Maths the children were identifying and naming 3D shapes. They practised guessing which shape was hiding in a feely bag by analysing the features such as the number of faces, edges and vertices and presence or absence of curved surfaces.
In science this week we explored food chains and learnt how energy passes from the Sun to producers and primary and secondary consumers. The children enjoyed ordering food chains practically and using Seesaw.
Well done Year 2 for all of your hard work this term. We are so proud of all of your amazing achievements. Have a wonderful holiday!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.
