Cheam Common Infants' Academy: Balmoral Road, Worcester Park, KT4 8SS
Email: ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk https://www.cheamcommoninfants.com/
Another busy week has come to an end, beginning with three of our Nursery parents generously donating their time and plants to transform the small bug garden in the nursery playground. With the soaring temperatures, the children were given clear instructions to keep the plants well-hydrated, a responsibility they have taken very seriously.
After two extremely hot days, the weather broke on Wednesday for our Year One and Year Two Sports Day. Fortunately, the rain was not heavy enough to cause a cancellation, and the cooler, slightly damp weather was a welcome relief after Monday and Tuesday. The Scouts had left the gazebos up, allowing spectating parents to take shelter when needed. The rain was short-lived, and Reception enjoyed a drier event in the afternoon.
A huge thank you goes to Mr. Honeysett, who arranged the four fantastic sporting events: the three sports days at the field on Wednesday and the Nursery sports event on Thursday in the playground. Having watched several of these events, I can honestly say that the Nursery children truly excelled this year. Mr. Honeysett's coaching, focused on developing their physical development skills, was clearly evident on Thursday.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to support the event and to the Friends for providing refreshments for the children.
We recently had a pre-installation survey for our new playground, which is scheduled to be installed at the end of the summer break. The work will extend into the first week of term and will impact drop-off and collection arrangements. A separate letter with more details will be sent to you closer to the time.
Please support our summer fair on Saturday! We'd also appreciate any time you can offer as a volunteer. The Friends of the School are still fundraising to make our playground truly spectacular (though, sorry children, still no trampoline park!).
Mrs. MP and Mrs. Harris led two successful and well-attended transition meetings this week. Many questions were answered and ideas shared, and we hope you found them useful. The slides from these meetings will be shared this week. On Friday, the head boys and girls from Cheam Common Juniors visited to speak with our Year Two children and our teachers are looking forward to meeting their new classes on Monday afternoon.
As we near the end of the academic year, our school community is reflecting on the changes that have occurred and those still to come. I encourage us all to remember Socrates' words: "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old but on building the new."
Mrs Hughes
If you would like to sign up to volunteer as our Cheam Common Summer Fair on Saturday 12th July, you can do so here.
Edurio Survey 2025
"Could you share more detailed about what children are learning and share educational resources. We would like to know more about the curriculum and how to better support our children."
We will be holding a range of workshops over the coming months and the next academic year and comments within the survey have given us a range of subject focuses for these. We will be starting with 'Transition' workshops this term. These will be held in the school hall.
Wednesday 25th June 5.30 pm Welcome to Reception Parents' Evening (for Sept 2025 intake)
Thursday 26th June 5.30 pm Welcome to Nursery Parents' Evening (for Sept 2025 intake)
Thursday 3rd July 9.45-10.30 am Welcome to Year Two (for parents of our current Year One children) (amended time)
Friday 4th July 9-9.45 am Welcome to Year One (for parents of our current Reception children) (amended day and time)
These workshops are designed to provide information and practical suggestions on how to support our children to make a smooth transition into their new year group in September.
We would like to say a big thank you to Clemetine's mum, Thea's mum and Ava's dad, for sorting out our nursery garden for us, and making it look beautiful and inspiring for our children.
The Charities Trust is a UK-based not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and increases charitable giving. They recently contacted us to confirm that we had been registered with them, as a donor/client working with them had indicated they would like to support us. Subsequently, we have received 3 donations totalling £80!
We want to extend our sincerest thanks to whoever our beneficiary is. As we do not receive specific contact information for these particular donations, we are unable to thank you personally, but please know how much your contributions mean to us and the school community.
Tuesday 8th July
As part of our history topic, ‘Tudor Kings and Queens’, we have organised an educational visit to Nonsuch Park! The children will be given an opportunity to visit the grounds and gardens of Nonsuch Mansion.
Nonsuch Palace was a Tudor royal palace, built by Henry VIII; it stood from 1538 to 1682–83. Its site lies in what is now Nonsuch Park. We will explore the gardens and grounds, play some games in the park and enjoy a picnic before returning to school.
Please complete and return this Google Form, giving permission for your child to attend and indicating if you would like to order a school packed lunch or if you will provide one from home.
We are pleased to announce the arrival of the new Cheam Common half-zip black PE top at the uniform shop.
These stylish tops provide a comfortable and smart alternative to sweatshirts and cardigans on PE days, mirroring the popular junior design.
Infants in Reception to Year 2 can now purchase tops with a standard Cheam Common logo. Older children's tops with the CCJ logo will remain available until current stock is sold.
This top is optional (not a uniform requirement) but many parents have praised the junior version, so we are pleased to offer this popular choice!
These can be purchased at SchoolWearInc - also on Worcester Park High Street,
The Nursery children have been learning all about the sea this week! They have learnt about sea creatures, pirates and beaches! They made treasure maps, painted beach scenes and wrote their own tales toolkit stories, focusing on a character and a setting.
Reception read the story Giraffes Can’t Dance. They painted pictures of giraffes and wrote kind messages to Gerald the Giraffe when he was feeling sad. They thought about how Gerald could fix his problem and wrote a new solution/ending to the story. They also looked at patterns this week and have created different types of patterns. Which types of patterns can you see?
Year One have had a busy week. Monday and Tuesday were incredibly hot but the children survived the heat and really enjoyed enjoyed making a fruit salad. Thank you parents for your wonderful contributions of fruit. Some tried new fruits that they had never tasted like passion fruit and watermelon.
On Wednesday we were grateful it was cooler for Sports Day despite it raining, all the children had the best time. They were all great sportsmen and loved their sports day! Their favourite races were the sack race and javelin, wow some had a great arm on them!
In English the children have really enjoyed learning about bees, they have written some interesting facts about bees and written questions for example Did you know the Queen bee can lay 20,000 eggs a day? In History the children learnt more about Henry V111 where he lived and his country palace Nonsuch Palace. The children learnt about Nonsuch Palace in preparation for our school trip next Tuesday 8th July.
What a wonderfully busy week it's been for Year 2! We started strong, with everyone producing outstanding recounts of our Wisley visit. Despite the heat, your children's ability to weave in expanded noun phrases, similes, and emotive language truly blew us away. Well done, Year 2 – we're incredibly proud of your writing!
On Monday, Miss Holloway, the Year 3 Lead, joined us for a special assembly. She did a fantastic job of easing any transition worries and getting the children excited about their move to CCJ. Each class also had an incredibly important water safety lesson during which the children learned and practiced the key principles: Stop (and think about dangers), Stay Together (with an adult), Float (if in difficulty), and Call 999 in an emergency.
Wednesday was Sports Day, and the children were in high spirits! The weather was kind, allowing them to showcase their sporting prowess to cheering parents. We certainly have some future stars among us! Finally, our DT lessons saw us transform into engineers, building impressive bridges out of sugar cubes. By applying knowledge of strong foundations and carefully shaping arches, the results were amazing!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you so much for your book donation.

Reporting absences
There is no longer an option to report a child’s absence via telephone. We ask that you use the google forms below to report absence. They are also available to complete on our website using the parent tab.
We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then please complete this form:
Request for Exceptional Absence form in advance for future appointments and exception absence.
Cheam Common Infants' Absence Form for sickness and same day medical appointments.
Our neighbours
Several of our neighbours have reported that parents are parking on their driveways. Please remember to be considerate to our local residents when dropping off and collecting your child.
As well as being respectful to our neighbours, please can you ensure you adhere to the parking rules within Sainsbury's Local and only park there if you are a customer.
Please ensure you do not obstruct any gates or double park during drop off or collection times.
Thank you for your support.
Moving address
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
Please email the school office ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk if your details need updating. Alternatively you can update them using the Arbor App.
We are excited to announce that you can now log same-day absences for your children directly through the Parent Portal or Arbor App. Simply navigate to the Attendance section, click "Log Absence," and fill in the details. You can adjust the start and end times if it is not a full-day absence. Once submitted, school staff will review and either approve or reject the request. You will see approved absences in the Attendance tab.
Please note, this feature is only for same-day absences; for any extended or future absences, please continue to complete and submit the request for exceptional absence. We will also continue to use the same day absence google form. If you need to change an unapproved absence request, you will need to delete it and create a new one, as editing is not possible. Once an absence is approved, it cannot be deleted through the app, so you will need to contact the school for any further modifications.
This new reporting method will be used alongside our other established reporting procedures

Partners including CAMHS, Sutton Local Authority, Education and the Voluntary Community Sector are working with parents/carers to design a pilot to provide early support to families that may have concerns that may be related to Autism or ADHD.
The pilot will aim to provide early support to children and young people with or
without a formal diagnosis.
To make sure this pilot service truly meets the needs of families in Sutton, we would be extremely grateful if you could complete the following short survey:
https://forms.office.com/e/swsnFC9jmK
Your feedback will help to:
Identify gaps in support experienced by parent/carers, ensure that the pilot service is informed by parent/carers and that families receive the help that they need, and improve coordination between services.
The survey should take approximately 15-20 mins to complete; it is open until 23rd June 2025.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Diana Salgado, Clinial Service Lead for the Leads Based Model team, through the email:

Help Keep Young People Safe in Our Community!
Please share:
We’re looking for everyday people—shop owners, neighbours, volunteers, parents—who care about young people’s safety and want to make a difference.
What’s a Community Guardian?
A community guardian is a trusted adult who helps look out for young people in the places they spend time—like parks, shops, schools, online spaces, and local neighbourhoods.
You don’t need to be an expert—just someone who’s observant, approachable, and willing to help if something doesn’t feel right.
As a Community Guardian, You Might:
Keep an eye out for signs that a young person might need help
Offer a safe place, like your business or community space, if someone feels unsafe
Build positive relationships with local young people
Help raise awareness about keeping young people safe
Why It Matters
Sometimes, risks to young people happen outside the home. That’s where community guardians come in—offering support and safety in the spaces where young people hang out every day.
Interested in Getting Involved?
We're planning a short training session and will support however you need to help you feel confident. Whether you want to actively participate or just learn more, we’d love to hear from you.
