Cheam Common Infants' Academy: Balmoral Road, Worcester Park, KT4 8SS
Email: ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk https://www.cheamcommoninfants.com/
It was wonderful to bring our school community together on Thursday and Friday for our harvest celebrations. A heartfelt thank you goes to Miss Beach and all the staff for guiding and supporting the children to perform with such marvellous confidence—we are already looking forward to Christmas! We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the food bank. On Tuesday, we will take all donated items over to the church, where they will then be passed along to the local food bank.
Fostering strong community ties is essential to us here at Cheam Common, and we have been actively establishing links with local businesses. As part of this effort, we have partnered with Barnard Marcus to host an exciting colouring competition! Every child has been given a picture to decorate in school. The top entry from each year group will be proudly displayed in their shop window, giving the wider community a chance to vote on their favourite. The year group that receives the highest number of votes will win funding from Barnard Marcus to select new learning resources.
We kindly ask for another moment of your attention regarding lost property. We have accumulated a considerable number of unlabelled items of clothing and water bottles. At the end of this half term, any unlabelled school uniform will be displayed on tables in the main playground. Items that remain unclaimed will be donated to the Friends for their second-hand uniform sale. Unnamed water bottles will similarly be laid out on the tables and subsequently disposed of, as we unfortunately lack the space required to store unlabelled items indefinitely.
Thank you to everyone who has followed our safety guidelines by keeping children off the equipment at the end of the school day. Please bear in mind that this rule applies across all facilities—including the play equipment in the main playground, the trim trail, and the equipment located in both the Reception and Nursery areas.

It’s been another busy week in Nursery! We’ve continued our emotional journey with The Colour Monster, understanding our own feelings as well as recognising how our friends might be feeling. Outdoors, the children have learned how to play safely with our fantastic new playground equipment. We’ve seen incredible imagination as the children have been busy builders, created potions and practiced their target skills throwing bean bags. We have also enjoyed developing our early math skills with colour-sorting activities.
Miss Alder and the Nursery Team
What a brilliant week Reception have had as we dived into our new story, Splat the Cat! The children loved hearing all about Splat’s adventures at cat school, which sparked some wonderful conversations about everything they have enjoyed learning since starting school themselves. We had great fun describing Splat, drawing pictures of him, and writing down sounds or words to describe him. To top it off, we used our Tales Toolkit skills to bring his story to life and retell it together.
In our phonics work, the children have been matching initial sounds to pictures as we continue to learn new sounds. In maths, we have been practising our counting and exploring the different principles of counting.
We also learned about Harvest Festival, comparing how it was celebrated in the past with how we celebrate it now. The children created lovely artwork of harvest baskets filled with fruits and vegetables, while sharing plenty of thoughts on their favourite healthy treats!
Mrs Woods and the EYFS Team
It was so wonderful to see so many parents attend our Harvest celebration, where the children gave an amazing performance and sang so beautifully! In the classroom, the children have fallen in love with our new English book, Beegu, drawing her and writing descriptive sentences about how she feels while enjoying space-themed provisions. In Maths, we have been comparing length and weight, learning that scissors are heavier than a feather as well as comparing numbers using greater than and less than symbols; watching the "Blockzilla" episode on Numberblocks at home is a great way to reinforce this learning! Meanwhile, the children plotted local human and physical features on maps in Geography, created continuous-line spiral shell drawings in Art and built class tally charts comparing eye and hair colors in Science. What a busy week of learning we had!
Mrs MP and the Year 1 Team
Year 2 unleashed their creativity this week! In English, they designed their own story characters and planned detailed descriptions, making superb use of ambitious vocabulary and expanded noun phrases.
They also honed their artistic talents through beautiful observational drawings of autumn leaves. The children meticulously examined the shapes and vein structures of the leaves before creating realistic drawings in black ink. We certainly have some impressive budding artists!
In Maths, we focused on addition strategies, exploring how to add two two-digit numbers by partitioning them into tens and ones. We also practised adding three addends using 'first, then, and now' stories with a range of representations.
In History, the children began to research Edith Cavell using various sources on Thinglink. They practised their note taking skills as they learnt about the sacrifice she made whilst helping others.
We were so proud of the children's Harvest Festival performance this week. They have worked so hard learning the songs and perfecting the actions since the beginning of term. It was wonderful to see them perform with so much enthusiasm and confidence.
Well done, Year 2!
Mrs Harris and the Year 2 Team
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We will share any photos of children and their birthday books here every week!
All of our children have had an amazing return to school - there are no specific awards being given out this week. We are proud of you all!

⭐ Superstar Weekend! Well done to Raffie for winning both Star of the Week (Ninja Athletics) & Warrior of the Week (Rugby) this weekend! Fantastic achievement! 🏆
Communication 🔊
To ensure we can address your queries as quickly as possible, please include your child’s full name and class in the subject line of all emails.
Example: Subject: [Child’s Full Name] - [Class, e.g., Squirrels]
Having this information at a glance prevents delays and helps the office team assist you more efficiently. Thank you for your cooperation!
A friendly reminder that Kingsmead Avenue is not a pedestrianised zone. Even during "Safe Street" hours, residents and permit holders are still using the road.
Please talk to your children about staying on the pavement and being mindful of traffic. Many modern cars are nearly silent, so we cannot rely on our hearing alone to know when a vehicle is approaching. Let’s work together to keep our school run safe!
Be a Road Safety Hero! 🦸
To keep our school community safe, we are asking all drivers to be "Safety Heroes" on the school run. You can help by keeping driveways clear for our neighbours, slowing down near the school gates, and never parking on zig-zags or corners. Visibility is key to preventing accidents—let's work together to keep our students safe!
Please be considerate to our neighbours in Balmoral Road, Kingsmead Avenue and all surrounding roads. We have had communication from frustrated neighbours whose driveways are blocked by someone collecting their Cheam Common children.
Please do not park on any yellow lines. You will be fined by the traffic wardens.
Moving home? 🏠
If you have moved recently, please inform the school office immediately. It is vital that we have your up-to-date address and contact details in case of an emergency.
You can update your information via the Arbor App or by emailing us at ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk.
It would be appreciated if all children's belongings were labelled clearly with their name, especially jumpers, coats and water bottles. We have a lot of unnamed items in our lost property cupboard.

8:10 am: Office entrance for Universal Breakfast Club.
8:30 am: Main and Nursery gates open.
8:40 am: All gates close to allow Phonics to begin at 8:45 am.

Booking Appointments
We have noticed an increase in pupils being collected mid-day for routine appointments. To protect learning time and minimise classroom disruption, please:
Book routine appointments (dentist/GP) outside of school hours.
Provide written evidence if a mid-day appointment is unavoidable.
Frequent collections impact your child’s progress and increase school administration. Thank you for your support.
Sutton Music Trust provides 1:1, paired, and group Violin, Recorder and Vocal lessons at your child’s school. Lessons can begin at the start of the school term or after half-term breaks with our
specialist tutors.
Please refer to this letter regarding paid for music lessons
The Friends of Cheam Common now has Facebook group, where you can follow any updates on upcoming events or how you can get involved.
Donations of uniform
We would be most grateful for donations of the following items:
Logo jumper
Logo cardigan
Logo fleece
Logo waterproof jacket
Logo PE tshirt
Logo polo shirts
Junior PE jumper
Ties
Red PE shorts
Please ensure the donated items are in good condition, with no holes, rips or stains.
Due to limited storage space, we would appreciate it if you could hold donating any other items, other than those listed above. We will communicate when we are able to accept other items again.
Friends are no longer able to process individual email requests. While they had loved providing this, they currently lack the volunteer hours to sustain the daily administration it requires.
How to get pre-loved uniform:
Termly Sales: Friends will hold a large uniform sale once per term, where you can stock up for the months ahead.
Donations: Please continue to drop any unwanted, clean uniform to either the Infant or Junior school office.
Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of this community initiative.

If you are interested in 1:1 parent sessions with our friendly in-school NHS Wellbeing Practitioners to help your child’s worries or anxieties, or support their challenging or tricky behaviour, you can pick up an application form from reception or speak to a member of staff.
The SWLSTG Educational Wellbeing Service (EWS) has launched a new programme of online parent groups, which will be offered throughout the year on a rolling basis. Feedback from previous groups has highlighted that parents find not only the psychoeducation and practical strategies they learn in the group helpful, but also the opportunity to connect with other parents whose children may be experiencing similar difficulties.
This year, we will be offering two online group programmes for the schools we support:
Supporting Children with Sleep
Goodbyes and Goodnights (for parents of children who may find it difficult to settle at night or attend school in the morning due to worries or anxiety)
Parents can sign up directly using the link or QR code included on the flyer.
Please find attached the flyer for our first group, Goodbyes and Goodnights, which will begin in October 2026. Additional groups will be offered throughout the year, and we will send further flyers as recruitment opens for each programme.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Update
If you have a child or children aged 0 to 14 years (or 18 if your child has a special educational need or disability) then please complete this questionnaire by Wednesday 30th September 2026.
Your response will help the London Borough of Sutton to ensure that families have access to flexible childcare that meets their childcare needs.
Please refer to this At Risk Flu poster promoting flu vaccination for children
with underlying health conditions.
Parents/Carers may wish for their child, who has one of the conditions listed, to receive their flu vaccination before the scheduled school session. The poster provides information on how to book an appointment at one of our community clinics, allowing eligible children to be vaccinated sooner if preferred.
