It was wonderful to see so many of you at our phonics workshop this week. In response to those who felt that Year Two and fluency weren't fully covered, I will now be holding another workshop specifically addressing "Phonics Yellow Group and Beyond." During this session it was also requested that as a school we share some strategies to support families speaking English as an additional language, and how best to support these children to learn to read and write. I am actively seeking support for this and will share a date as soon as possible.
A gentle reminder to please not let your children play on the playground equipment after school. It is for school time use only, and we have clubs waiting to use the playground afterwards, so we kindly ask that you leave as swiftly as possible. Whilst on the gate this week I noticed some children running across Kingsmead Road playing a game. While we are part of the safer street scheme, please remember that cars can still exit Kingsmead Road, so I really would suggest that you discourage children from playing in the road to avoid confusion about when it's safe.
The whole staffing team at CCI kindly requests your cooperation in naming your child's school uniform. We currently have a significant amount of unnamed lost property, making it difficult to return items to their owners. Our lost property cupboard is overflowing due to the sheer volume of unidentifiable clothing.
Naming clothing not only helps children develop independence in locating their belongings but also assists our staff. While teachers are happy to keep an eye out for missing items if you inform them, they cannot return unnamed clothing to its rightful owner. All unnamed items are ultimately sent to the office and if not claimed by the end of the half term are donated to the Friends for the second hand uniform sales.
You are welcome to visit the office and search through our lost property boxes. Additionally, weather permitting, we display lost property outside weekly in an effort to reunite items with their owners.
In response to parent requests, we're exploring the option of introducing a school rucksack as an alternative to a bookbag. Bookbags will still be available, and while teachers have asked that large rucksacks aren't brought to school due to space constraints, we understand the difficulty of carrying bookbags, water bottles, and packed lunches. We will keep you informed about these alternatives.
Finally thank you to the parents who supported Years One and Two on their walk to the church; the practice performance was great and I look forward to seeing it again with you all next week.
Mrs Hughes
Please email cciwac@leoacademytrust.co.uk or phone 07739360621.
We will be collecting harvest donations from Monday 29th September to Monday 6th October.
Suggested items: UHT milk, pasta, pasta sauce, tinned meats, tinned fish, tinned vegetables, rice, instant mash, cereal, long-life juice, long-life sponge puddings, and toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and deodorant, along with biscuits and jam. Any nappies or baby formula would be greatly appreciated!
This can be brought in with your child throughout that week, who can give them to their class teacher.
It would be appreciated if all children's belongings were labelled clearly with their name, especially jumpers, coats and water bottles.
If you would like to explore ways that our Family Support Worker could support your family, please complete this Google Form.
This survey is about parent/carer confidence in the support offered to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within mainstream schools in Sutton.
This survey is for parent/carers of all children and young people with SEND or suspected SEND. If more than one of your children has SEND, please complete separate surveys for each child.
The information you provide will help us to understand how parents and carers feel about current practices and identify areas where further support may be needed.
Please complete this survey by 30th September 2025.
Here are the lunch options for next week. Please note the change to Thursday 2nd Oct which is part of our themed menu below
You can see Autumn Term options here.
This week in Nursery, we have started to explore our feelings with the story ‘The Colour Monster’. We have thought about what makes us Happy, Sad and Angry.
We have been busy playing with blocks to balance, exploring and sorting colours and being creative to create our own monsters!
In Reception, we have continued our learning about The Colour Monster. We practised our counting skills by rolling a die and putting that many eyes on the monster! We also learnt how to sign the colours of the rainbow and signed them while singing I can sing a rainbow!
Year One really enjoyed their first Geography field trip, walking down their local area Worcester Park. They were all very excited to wear high vis jackets and we were so proud of how well they walked and listened. They identified lots of landmarks and discussed their favourite shops and restaurants that they saw. In English the children wrote simple sentences describing Beegu and many children are remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. In Maths, the children have been confidently using a number line and finding the number after 6 and before 8. They are really enjoying counting all the way to 100. The children also began exploring height and length and comparing objects. In Science, the children continued learning about their body. They completed a whole class activity labelling the parts of the body and used Seesaw which enhanced their learning even further. We finished off the week of our harvest festival practice, they are very excited to perform to you next Thursday and Friday.
Year Two began the week by reading the beautiful story of ‘The Storm Whale.’ They worked collaboratively in small groups to reenact the tale and focused on how the characters feel at different points in the story. This enabled them to explain the characters’ emotions using the conjunction ‘because.’
Our budding scientists have been developing their research skills. Thinglink and Orbit Note supported them to independently explore the needs of different animals to enable them to survive and be healthy and happy.
In Maths, we have been deepening our understanding of place value by comparing 2-digit numbers. They had great fun using strings of 100 beads and Dienes blocks to represent two-digit numbers and worked collaboratively to compare numbers using ‘Blockzilla.’
Our Art lessons involved an exploration of sensory perception and technique. The children attempted continuous line drawings of natural objects, relying on their sense of touch rather than sight. This exercise, while challenging, yielded unique and expressive results.
Finally, we are delighted to report on the progress of our students' musical preparation. The corridors have resonated with enthusiastic singing as Year Two rehearses for their upcoming Harvest Celebration performance. We are immensely proud of their commitment and look forward to sharing their hard work with you next week.
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We will share any photos of children and their birthday books here every week!
Happy birthday and a huge thank you for your book donation to your class!

Communication
To help us assist you more efficiently when you email the school office, we kindly request that you include your child's class along with their name in your correspondence.
While we know all our students very well, having the class information readily available helps us to quickly identify your child and address your queries without any delay or guesswork.
For example, please consider writing: "Regarding [Child's Full Name], [Class, e.g., Year R - Squirrels]" in the subject line or at the beginning of your email.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will help us continue to provide the best possible support to you and your children.
Thank you for your understanding.
Moving address
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
Please email the school office ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk if your details need updating. Alternatively you can update them using the Arbor App.
They are also available to complete on our website using the parent tab.
We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then please complete this form:
You can also log same-day absences for your children directly through the Parent Portal or Arbor App. Simply navigate to the Attendance section, click "Log Absence," and fill in the details. You can adjust the start and end times if it is not a full-day absence. Once submitted, school staff will review and either approve or reject the request. You will see approved absences in the Attendance tab.
Please note, this feature is only for same-day absences; for any extended or future absences, please continue to complete and submit the request for exceptional absence. We will also continue to use the same day absence google form. If you need to change an unapproved absence request, you will need to delete it and create a new one, as editing is not possible. Once an absence is approved, it cannot be deleted through the app, so you will need to contact the school for any further modifications

Logo jumper
Logo cardigan
Logo fleece
Logo waterproof jacket
Logo PE tshirt
Logo polo shirts
Junior PE black quarter zip top
Ties
Red PE shorts
Please do not donate, shirts, or grey uniform items; we have very limited storage space and we can’t store those items currently. We will let you know when we are able to accept these items again.
Thank you so much for supporting the second hand uniform sale on Friday. We are delighted that good quality school uniform can be reused and help families.
Going forward, we need to reduce the uniform service that we offer unfortunately. We will no longer be taking uniform email requests for the foreseeable future. The uniform service has expanded immensely with donations and requests over the past year. Whilst it has been absolutely wonderful to offer this service to the school community; sadly, we don't have the volunteers to sustain the huge amount of time this service requires.
However, we are very happy to still offer a termly uniform sale, where we'll have plenty of uniform on offer to stock up for the term ahead.
Please leave donations at either the Infants’ or Junior’s office.
We hope you understand the decision we've had to take, and we thank you, as always, for your continued support.
