Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Seesaw workshop. Your insightful questions were incredibly helpful in understanding what information you are most interested in. I will be adapting the slides based on your feedback and circulating them to everyone this week. I look forward to seeing many more of you at our next parent workshop on ''phonics".
As we enter Week 4, we are now focusing on encouraging the children to become as independent as possible. To support this, the Nursery and Reception teachers request that you drop your children off at the classroom doors in the mornings and do not enter the classrooms. This will help the children settle more quickly. We understand that it can be difficult to leave your child, but a quick exit often makes it easier for them to adjust.
Could we also remind you again that book bags should be used. Large rucksacks are proving difficult for the younger children to self manage and as the year leads explained in their curriculum meetings we also struggle to store these on the pegs. At your request, we are looking at having red smaller rucksacks available to purchase as an alternative to bookbags but these are not yet available. Spare clothes can be brought in and we will keep these in a small bag on the pegs. They do not need to be brought in daily in rucksacks. Children do not need to bring in snacks as we provide fruit so they do not go hungry. We only give children fruit snacks during the day and don’t let them eat chocolate biscuit treats in school even if they bring them in. Teachers have also asked me to remind you not to let your children bring toys into school. A small transitional toy, that can fit in a pocket, can be used in these early stages if it has been agreed with the class teacher but larger toys need to stay at home please.
The weather has been quite changeable recently. We aim to get the children outdoors in all conditions, so please ensure they bring a lightweight coat to school each day. Please make sure these and ALL clothes are named. We cannot return items to you if they are not named. Our lost property cupboard is already full of coats, jumpers, cardigans and PE tops all new and unnamed. Please ask at the office to have a look through these if you are missing items of clothing.

You may have been invited to join your class' Whatsapp Group in the last few weeks.
Please note that class WhatsApp groups are not managed by the school, and the school is not responsible for these groups. These groups can be a great way for parents to connect and share helpful reminders, but please remember to maintain a respectful and professional tone. Avoid sharing or discussing anything that would be inappropriate for a school environment.
We will be collecting harvest donations from Monday 29th September to Monday 6th October.
Suggested items: UHT milk, pasta, pasta sauce, tinned meats, tinned fish, tinned vegetables, rice, instant mash, cereal, long-life juice, long-life sponge puddings, and toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and deodorant, along with biscuits and jam. Any nappies or baby formula would be greatly appreciated!
This can be brought in with your child throughout that week, who can give them to their class teacher.
Monday 22nd September is World Narcolepsy Day. Coincidentally, it also happens to be one of our students, Joshua's, birthday - and he suffers from narcolepsy! He wanted to educate his friends and the school about his condition and he and his parents have created this brilliant video. We are so proud of you, Joshua!

It would be appreciated if all children's belongings were labelled clearly with their name, especially jumpers, coats and water bottles.
If you would like to explore ways that our Family Support Worker could support your family, please complete this Google Form.
This survey is about parent/carer confidence in the support offered to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within mainstream schools in Sutton.
This survey is for parent/carers of all children and young people with SEND or suspected SEND. If more than one of your children has SEND, please complete separate surveys for each child.
The information you provide will help us to understand how parents and carers feel about current practices and identify areas where further support may be needed.
Please complete this survey by 30th September 2025.
Nursery have continued to settle really well and have had a very busy week! They have been learning the routines and making lots of new friends. They have also done lots of bee themed activities to help them to learn the Three Bee Rules at CCI!
Reception have been reading The Colour Monster this week. They have been naming and discussing different emotions and thinking about what makes them feel like this. They thought of ways to help themselves and others if they are feeling sad or angry. In addition to lots of discussions about emotions, Reception have done lots of colour themed activities such as painting rainbows and collaging rainbow monsters. They have also started Read Write Inc phonics and have been learning new sounds.
Year One has had a busy week of learning. In English the children learnt about being a good friend and they wrote some sweet simple sentences.
In Maths, the children enjoyed counting all the way to 100 and by the end of the week were counting with such greater confidence. We have explored one to one counting to 10 and writing their numerals. Please practise writing numbers correctly with your child.
In Science, the children really enjoyed exploring drawing and labelling the parts of the body in such a practical way using chalks.
In Geography, they learnt about physical and human features and what landmarks they will see when they go on their local walk to Worcester Park on Tuesday. It has been a fun week full of learning.
Our Year 2 students have been busy this week! In English, they wrote engaging character descriptions of the little boy in ‘Perfectly Norman,’ using expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to add detail and flair.
We also saw them hone their disciplinary writing skills in both History and Science. They wrote thoughtful paragraphs about Florence Nightingale and her significance, and in Science, they recorded key features to help them identify and classify different animals.
In Maths, the children explored numbers up to 100, using hundred squares and charts to understand the value of two-digit numbers. We practised writing 2 digit numbers by identifying the number of 10s and 1s.
In Computing, we focused on online safety. The children learned what information is safe to share and what should be kept private, and were reminded to always talk to a trusted adult if they feel unhappy or unsure about something online.
Finally the children also showed their artistic side in Art and Music, creating wonderful works inspired by natural autumnal objects and singing Harvest Festival songs beautifully.
We can't wait to share their Harvest performance with you all very soon!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We will share any photos of children and their birthday books here every week!
Happy birthday and a huge thank you for your book donation to your class!

Communication
To help us assist you more efficiently when you email the school office, we kindly request that you include your child's class along with their name in your correspondence.
While we know all our students very well, having the class information readily available helps us to quickly identify your child and address your queries without any delay or guesswork.
For example, please consider writing: "Regarding [Child's Full Name], [Class, e.g., Year R - Squirrels]" in the subject line or at the beginning of your email.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will help us continue to provide the best possible support to you and your children.
Thank you for your understanding.
Moving address
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
Please email the school office ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk if your details need updating. Alternatively you can update them using the Arbor App.
They are also available to complete on our website using the parent tab.
We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then please complete this form:
You can also log same-day absences for your children directly through the Parent Portal or Arbor App. Simply navigate to the Attendance section, click "Log Absence," and fill in the details. You can adjust the start and end times if it is not a full-day absence. Once submitted, school staff will review and either approve or reject the request. You will see approved absences in the Attendance tab.
Please note, this feature is only for same-day absences; for any extended or future absences, please continue to complete and submit the request for exceptional absence. We will also continue to use the same day absence google form. If you need to change an unapproved absence request, you will need to delete it and create a new one, as editing is not possible. Once an absence is approved, it cannot be deleted through the app, so you will need to contact the school for any further modifications
